An album called Information Age is listed in the discography section with a reference going to the group's website. I can't find any information about this album on the website, or anywhere else for that matter. Is this actually a dead prez album? Has it already been released? Was it canceled/delayed? |

correct grammar

Dead Prez are...

Discography

It really does need to be flagged for cleanup
[edit]The Dead Prez article is in no way encyclopedaeic. Come on...
Prone to vandalism.
Additions?
[edit]According to MTV.com, DeadPrez worked with Big Pun on his album Capital Punishment. Read the DeadPrez section on MTV.com for more information. Should this be added into the article?
Also HipHopCanada.com interviewed Sticman and there's some information regarding him getting gout, having a 4-year old son name Itwela and they were actually questioned regarding the first paragraph of this article:
- HHC: I am going to quote you something I read on the net. "Dead Prez is known largely for their hard-hitting style and politically-aware lyrics, focusing on racism, critical pedagogy, activism against governmental hypocrisy, and corporate control over the media, especially hip-hop record labels" At the end of the day... what's the main point that you want to get across?
- Sticman: Power. All that extra shit is just jargon.
- HHC: Power for what?
- Sticman: Power over every aspect of our lives, because when you don't have control over your own shit, you're being exploited by somebody else. We want to show that in the music game and every other aspect of life. We formed a company called "Bossup Inc", which is basically another stage in Dead Prez. There are too many conscious groups that are starving and too many, what people would call them, backwards groups, that are rich. Then people think we're talking about capitalism. People try to put us in a box like we're anti-money or something, but I would be foolish in 2006 to be anti-money. What we're anti is, being broke.
Read the rest of the interview on this site. I think it would be better to expand this article using the information. Anyone interested? Comments? Taus33 04:29, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
Stic.man or Sticman?
[edit]What's the correct way of spelling the name? MTV.com spelled it without the period as "Sticman", but I've seen other websites spell it using the period as "Stic.man". So, which method is the correct way to spell it or are both correct? An encyclopedic article should take note of this. Taus33 04:32, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- On the offical site they spell it stic.man (aka Stic), so I guess that's the right spelling. I'll change it right away. Olof Johansson 20:00, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:DeadPrezLet'sGetFree.jpg
[edit]Image:DeadPrezLet'sGetFree.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:34, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Dead Prez being racy
[edit]I think something should be mentioned about how these guys are a little racist. "I'm down for runnin up on them crackers in they city hall". I'm not white, but even I can't argue that their lyrics are largely anti-white people.Drumac 07:29, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- They refer to white people as crackers in many of their songs, but I don't believe they are racist and I doubt there are any reliable sources stating they are racist. Cracker is a slang word used to refer to those of European ancestry, which is thought to have either derived from the sound of a whip being cracked by slave owners. Although this term may be disrespectful to whites, it is not a heated racist term like nigger or jap. I believe they are using the term to refer to white people as the oppressors of blacks and the poor--not to show that blacks are superior to whites. —Christopher Mann McKaytalk 14:33, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Its not about being superior or not. Its that in their lyrics they continuously threaten violence against said crackers. Racism is more than just believing you are superior to someone else. I believe their lyrics can be percieved as racist (in fact I know many people believe so) whether they intend it that way or not. 66.167.204.57 (talk) 05:31, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- At any rate, you'd have to find reliable sources making this assertion of racism. -Elmer Clark (talk) 22:14, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
I have to agree with Drumac. There is more actually, stuff like "a white man's handshake ain't worth shit". That's some BAD stuff. Tuplad (talk) 19:22, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Capitalization
[edit]It should really be "dead prez" everywhere but at the beginning of a sentence. In fact, this article should be moved to "dead prez" even though, that will automatically become "Dead prez" in wiki-format, there is no reason the P should ever be capitalized (unless, of course, it were written in all caps like DEAD PREZ). Peace, JesseRafe (talk) 04:55, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'm going to move this page over to "dead prez" in a week if no one here objects. The "D" should be lowercase, but the wikiformatting will make it automatically capital, but when it displays as lower case in the main page and the 'P" is still capital it looks weird. JesseRafe (talk) 15:49, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Since it's been more than a week, I went ahead and requested this at Wikipedia:Requested moves. (I couldn't do it myself, nor could you assuming you're not an admin, since dead prez is currently an existent redirect.) -Elmer Clark (talk) 22:12, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Did DP do the soundtrack for Slam (film)? RPM Magazine kind of suggests that they did. -M.Nelson (talk) 03:56, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Valentines Day riot
[edit]Why was the Valentines Day riot section removed?
````Linus —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.231.27.129 (talk) 09:33, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Official reports never really carefully presented the story correctly or followed up on months after the event when students were being prosecuted. Also part of the section was based on personal anecdotes which Wikipedia doesn't accept that legitimate sources.
Okay, why...
[edit]...is this page titled "Dead Prez"? It's official capitalization is "dead prez." 76.127.235.42 (talk) 21:19, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
- read WP:MOSTM. There is nothing "official" about using lowercase styling for a band name. Nouse4aname (talk) 07:51, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
- But if it's how they spell it themselves, shouldn't that matter more than Wikipedia's capitalization policies? 76.127.217.214 (talk) 05:30, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_hooks Your link doesn't really address capitalization of names. It's well recognized bell hooks has the right to have her name decapitalized, and that it's the standard spelling for it. And it's the standard for dead prez, too.
