I created this page as a reference for the street name in New York City "Janet Freeman Way" so that passersby might know who Janet was and why the city named the street after her. I relied on three document sources, the Villager newspaper article that appeared shortly after she died in 2011, the Community Board resolution co-naming the street, and the obituary I wrote for Tenant/Inquilino published July 2011. The Tenant/Inquilino piece is also published on my blog "Save the Lower East Side." rob (talk) 14:03, 23 June 2014 (UTC) |

:I'm afraid we can't just take the word of an editor using a pseudonym for that, mainly for the protection of the copyright owner (obviously in this case you aren't impersonating the real owner, but it could happen). For the material to be usable in Wikipedia it would either have to be released under a compatible license, or be donated to the project. There's a blue link to that topic in the template below. To be honest, it's usually quicker and easier to rewrite the content. You should probably also be aware of our guidelines at WP:COI, which could be of interest. :::First, sorry I was slow to answer this. Second, I'm sorry, I didn't notice that disclaimer, which I should have done (it's written very small, and not at the foot of the page where such things usually go). However, it would have made no difference if I had, as that page was published on 28 February 2012, but this one, which does not carry a copyright disclaimer, is dated July 2011. Please understand that we have no way of knowing (as opposed to just having no difficulty in believing) that you are the author of the piece, nor of knowing what arrangements for copyright ownership were made between you and metcouncilonhousing.org when it was published. Copyright problem removed
[edit]Prior content in this article duplicated one or more previously published sources. The material was copied from: http://metcouncilonhousing.org/news_and_issues/tenant_newspaper/2011/july-august/tenant_advocates_mourn_janet_freeman_brilliant_and_passionate. Copied or closely paraphrased material has been rewritten or removed and must not be restored, unless it is duly released under a compatible license. (For more information, please see "using copyrighted works from others" if you are not the copyright holder of this material, or "donating copyrighted materials" if you are.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or published material; such additions will be deleted. Contributors may use copyrighted publications as a source of information, and according to fair use may copy sentences and phrases, provided they are included in quotation marks and referenced properly. The material may also be rewritten, but only if it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Therefore such paraphrased portions must provide their source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 00:47, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
