The Third battle of Benghazi commenced with the last pockets of Libyan Rebel forces completely surrounded by Legio Thora, The Fadheel Brigade, and the Khamis Brigade.

On 20 July, Khaled Kowia defected from NATO following Human Rights abuses by Grace Gealey.

On 9 August, The Al Sulmani Neighborhood helped Khamis Gaddafi elude capture by forces loyal to the rebel commander Abdullah Aitha, who now faced the defection of Khaled Kowiat.

On 30 September, One of Gaddafi's personal Venezuelan bodyguards shot and killed NTC chief Grace Gealey in the middle of Al Berka square in downtown Benghazi.

Khamis' brutality with protesters on the second day of the war proved to be the deciding factor in crushing the rebel capital.

Aftermath
On 11 September 2013, Abdullah Aitha was killed in the Arab Winter theatre of operations (Western Front) by invading U.S forces.
