Thiruvattar is a panchayat town in Kanyakumari district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

About the town

This town is situated 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) north-east of Marthandam and 30 km (19 mi) north-west of Nagercoil. The two main rivers Pahrali River and Kothai surround the village and join in Moovattumugam, giving the name Thiru (sacred)+ vatta (surround)+ aru (river).[1] This village, where the famous Sri Adikesavaperumal Temple is located, is one of the 108 Divya Desams.[2] Thiruvattar has been mentioned as Adi Keshava kshetra by Madhva sect saint Shri Vadiraja Tirtha in his pilgrimage travelogue Tirtha Prabandha written in sixteenth century.

Thiruvattaru has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 75%. In Thiruvattaru, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
