Just going to point out that coal forks can have many more tines than just 6. I have one with 12, you can see a 10 tined fork here. http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x105/StepheninSOKY/coal008.jpg |

I believe that it is actually supposed to be a [[trident]], but I am too lazy to change this. [[User:BirdValiant|BirdValiant]] 00:02, 5 June 2007 (UTC) |

I have deleted the section containing Sparky the Arizona State mascot. Sparky is clearly carrying a trident. Although both pitchforks and tridents have a similar structure, they are completely different. A pitchfork is designed to pitch hay. A trident is a weapon used as a spear. The tool that Sparky is holding has a barb on the center tine. A barb is used on a spear to restrict removal once an object is speared. |
|||
So, because this picture and the accompanying text provides a poor representation of a pitchfork, I have deleted it. |
|||
Also of note, there is a comic book character named Blue Devil who carries a similar device. In the comic it is described as his trident. |
|||
If an entry about devils frequently being depicted with pitchforks is deemed appropriate, then I suggest that you find a picture of a pitchfork (without barbs). |

This article's image is not suitable for the article. It is not a picture of a pitchfork. No pitchfork is even ''visible'' in the image! This is an image of hay. At the risk of sounding not serious about this - what the hay, man? |

I have deleted the section containing Sparky the Arizona State mascot. Sparky is clearly carrying a trident. Although both pitchforks and tridents have a similar structure, they are completely different. A pitchfork is designed to pitch hay. A trident is a weapon used as a spear. The tool that Sparky is holding has a barb on the center tine. A barb is used on a spear to restrict removal once an object is speared.
So, because this picture and the accompanying text provides a poor representation of a pitchfork, I have deleted it.
Also of note, there is a comic book character named Blue Devil who carries a similar device. In the comic it is described as his trident.
If an entry about devils frequently being depicted with pitchforks is deemed appropriate, then I suggest that you find a picture of a pitchfork (without barbs).
