The school was formed as an amalgamation of Mitcham High School, Mitcham Technical School, and Donvale High School at the beginning of 1989, and operated on three campuses for a short period of time. In 1994, the decision was made to merge all three campuses together. The [[Donvale, Victoria|Donvale]] campus closed at the end of the following year, with its population of Year 7-10 students moved to the Mitcham campus. The VCE campus, on Dunlavin Rd, remained open until the end of 1996. A year 10 Mitcham Tech Art student, back in 1986 won the design award for the now current Mullauna College logo.
