In the fall of 2015, the continued advocacy that MLA Cusanelli championed paid off. The Alberta Government invested in enhancing supports for women and children affected by family violence. <ref>{{Cite web|url=alberta.ca/release.cfm?xlD=38564AA48A1E-08F7-2F92-6BC7049E1314C909|title=AbGov Press Release|last=|first=|date=|website=|publisher=|access-date=}}</ref>

Cusanelli worked tirelessly during her time at the Legislature to voice concerns for the public on issues of space and school infrastructure. Along with her responsiveness to women and children's issues, Christine Cusanelli showed a deep interest in helping our most vulnerable through action. Christine Cusanelli is a former school Principal who is highly regarded for her advocacy for students, leadership, and communication skills.

Ms. Cusanelli graduated from the Faculté Saint Jean at the University of Alberta with a Baccalauréat en éducation. She started her career as a teacher with the Calgary Catholic School District where she taught elementary and junior high students in both French Immersion and regular educational settings.

At 31, Ms. Cusanelli was appointed her first Principalship, making her among the youngest Principals in Calgary.

She is noted for her ability as a change agent and a visionary leader within her school communities in the North East and South West parts of the city. Most notably, Ms. Cusanelli led St. Michael’s School (K-9) in implementing two International Baccalaureate Programs making it the only school in Southern Alberta (2011) to offer both Middle and Primary Years programmes. An achievement that shows her precision in vision and ability to champion implementation, change and foster a rigorous environment that promotes excellence.

In 1998 Christine obtained a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from the University of Gonzaga, and she is a keen supporter and advocate for students with special needs and learning challenges.

Christine is a former member of the former organization known as Chickwagon! which built and sustained a community of dynamic women committed to bettering the community.
Chickwagon! members worked in partnership with the YWCA of Calgary to help stop family violence through fundraising, and support of events such as Walk a Mile in Her Shoes and Keep a Roof Over Her Head.

Christine Cusanelli was elected on April 23, 2012 as the MLA for Calgary Currie. She was appointed as Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation for the period of April 2012-February 2013.

As an MLA Christine continued her dedication to women's issues by advocating for change in Government focus from Emergency Shelter funding to creating a framework of funding that also includes second stage housing for women and children. It is Christine's belief that in attending to the psychological impact of trauma on children who witness abuse in the home will result in a decrease in domestic violence statistics.

To this end, Christine also researched and carried Private Member Bill 205 Police (Victims of Sexual Violence) Amendment Act in order to bring about change in our reporting system at the Provincial Level. This Bill achieved Third Reading during the last sitting of the 28th Legislature.

Her community advocacy both as an MLA and Minister of the Crown is extensive where she championed actions for our most vulnerable Albertans and for the quality of life that we have the pleasure to enjoy in the majestic backyard that is the province of Alberta.

Two noteworthy actions that have improved the overall quality of lives in our province are: Christine’s carrying of Private Member Bill 206 Tobacco Reduction (Flavored Tobacco Products) Amendment Act which received Royal Assent and was passed in Alberta. As well, Christine is responsible for the initiation and the establishment of a MOU for Regional Tourism Partnerships and fulfilled the ambitious task of creating the Regional Tourism Partnership Action Plan that is followed today.

In 2012, while in [[Alison Redford]]'s cabinet, Cusanelli chose to repay 31 items adding up to $10,600 in expenses, including $4,000 in airfare expenses incurred as a result of flights being erroneously charged to her Ministerial credit card. In response to media questions, Cusanelli took responsibility for the error.<ref>http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/12/06/christine-cusanelli-travel-expenses_n_2252757.html</ref> Regarding the established pattern of reimbursement that traditionally occurred in Government, Cusanelli explained her shortcoming in scrutinizing the process: She should have looked at the process better and for that she apologized to Albertans. <ref>http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/alberta-cabinet-minister-repays-10k-in-improper-expenses-1.1219850</ref> The released documents show that Cusanelli wrote a cheque to repay the province about 10 days after she returned from the trip.<ref>http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/Calgary+Christine+Cusanelli+repays+taxpayers+after+flying+family+members+Olympics/7658409/story.html</ref>
