Sanil Sachar’s second book, The Dark Side of Light promises a unique literary journey for its readers instantly connecting and reflecting life’s complexities by stitching together vignettes of romance, comedy, murder, mystery alike. ‘Member’s Only’ takes you to India’s first strip club set in 2034 that asks existential questions about identity as a young man oscillates between love and lust. ‘Painted Red’ brings alive the most basic of human emotions showcasing wrath and vengeance as a brother deals with loss. Navigating the reader through an array of everyday emotions, ‘Dinner with the Turners’ is a laugh riot, striking a chord as it peeps into a youngster’s life where a hopeless wanderer tries to find his identity in a foreign land. The short and powerful ‘I’ll Be There One Day’ conveys a sense of belonging while mystery and wavering thoughts sway along with ‘The Conditioned Air’. Offering a diverse menu for his readers, Sanil combines the rhythm of poetry, the allure of storytelling and the realism of theatre seamlessly keeping their distinct flavours intact. With a heartbeat like tempo, the different literary forms come together to create an enriching experience, painting vivid experiences with each word. 25 short stories, 48 poems and 2 scripts transport you to different worlds at one moment and allude to everyday experiences the next, with fiction fueled by reality. The Dark Side of Light echoes the philosophy of living each day one word at a time. |
