Thank you for the immense contributions to French and German culture that we wouldn't have without you. Who will help me with [[Opéra de Montréal]], a sad stub mentioned on the Main page? We can talk on the German Wikipedia, - you might drop help for that article on my talk there, for example. I'd understand, however, if you had no further intention to help here. Merci. --[[User:Gerda Arendt|Gerda Arendt]] ([[User talk:Gerda Arendt|talk]]) 08:56, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

I will miss you too. Thanks for what you've done. Thanks for translating over 6000 German and French articles into English. Thanks for the immense work, you have done. You are a loss for the whole Wikipedia project. You can contact me under [[:de:Benutzer Diskussion:Grimes2]]. [[User:Grimes2|Grimes2]] ([[User talk:Grimes2|talk]]) 09:08, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
==[[WP:DISINFOBOX]]==
Please do not add infoboxes to existing articles without prior discussion on the article Talk page. Not all articles need infoboxes. Here are some reasons why an article might not need an infobox. [[WP:DISINFOBOX]]. Let me know if you want to discuss this further. All the best! -- [[User:Ssilvers|Ssilvers]] ([[User talk:Ssilvers|talk]]) 19:27, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
:Hi [[User:Ssilvers|Ssilvers]],
:As you know I'm a newbie here so I'll follow the guide-lines that are used on the en-wiki. No more infoboxes from now on; Thanks for the message, [[User:LouisAlain|LouisAlain]] ([[User talk:LouisAlain#top|talk]]) 19:58, 8 May 2016 (UTC).
::Thanks. Note that this is not a guideline, only an essay. The guideline, [[WP:INFOBOXUSE]], says: "Whether to include an infobox ... is determined through discussion and consensus among the editors at each individual article." So, I think the best procedure is to begin a discussion on an article's Talk page if you feel strongly that an IB needs to be added or deleted from an existing article. All the best! -- [[User:Ssilvers|Ssilvers]] ([[User talk:Ssilvers|talk]]) 20:04, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
::: Alain, you may read with amusement [[Wikipedia:Disinfoboxes: a refutation]] (you will have heard the name of the author). You can add infoboxes to your liking if you can take them to be reverted (same as for other editing). Was [[Pierre Boulez]] for me. Interesting experience ;) --[[User:Gerda Arendt|Gerda Arendt]] ([[User talk:Gerda Arendt|talk]]) 20:19, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

I [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Gerda_Arendt&oldid=1046744301 mentioned you on my talk], inviting "teh community" to create the two authors of "[[Hilf, Herr meines Lebens|let me not be here in vain]]" which you can't do. I thank you so much for those you could do, such as [[Tag des offenen Denkmals]]. --[[User:Gerda Arendt|Gerda Arendt]] ([[User talk:Gerda Arendt|talk]]) 06:42, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
::: Louis, I'm disgusted that you've been given such disinformation by Ssilvers. Infoboxes are very much part of the English Wikipedia and the majority of articles, especially high quality ones, have an infobox. I'm going to encourage you to carry on adding infoboxes to any articles that you feel would be improved by having one. You don't need anybody's approval, nor do you need prior consensus to make any edit that improves an article. That is a fundamental principle of Wikipedia. --[[User:RexxS|RexxS]] ([[User talk:RexxS|talk]]) 22:57, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
::::
::::As you can see, people disagree on this issue, but RexxS is absolutely wrong: many of the highest quality articles on Wikipedia do not have infoboxes. See, for example [[English National Opera]]. I do agree that editors do not *need* prior consensus to make edits (unless they are under an arbitration restriction), but on a contentious issue like this, where there was a '''[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Infoboxes major Arbitration battle]''', it is a good idea. I should point out that in that arbitration battle, Gerda Arendt was admonished and restricted. -- [[User:Ssilvers|Ssilvers]] ([[User talk:Ssilvers|talk]]) 23:27, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
:::::
::::: On the contrary, SSilvers is completely wrong. One example is called an 'anecdote', not data. Over 75% of all [[WP:Featured Articles|Featured Articles]] have an infobox, as anyone who takes a sample from that page can verify. In addition, I have always been a leading defender of the right of any editor to add an infobox when they believe it to be an improvement. The onus is on the opponents of that edit to give good reasons why it is not - and "you didn't ask first" is '''not''' a good reason. The Arbitration Committee only has a remit to comment on behaviour, not content, and they had no criticism whatsoever of my conduct.
::::: In almost all areas of the encyclopedia, the issue is completely uncontentious, but in one or two topics a small, self-selected group have chosen to remove infoboxes for no other reason than that they don't like the look of them. You may wish to steer clear of adding infoboxes to existing articles on classical composers and biographies of entertainers, if you wish to avoid conflict. Anywhere else, you'll have no problems at all. --[[User:RexxS|RexxS]] ([[User talk:RexxS|talk]]) 00:12, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

::::: Ssilvers, you don't have to introduce me to Alain who translated all Bach cantata articles to French. Yes, I was restricted, but there was no battle. Other absurd things happen on Wikipedia, ask, Alain. Nobody is restricted in infobox matters, did you know? --[[User:Gerda Arendt|Gerda Arendt]] ([[User talk:Gerda Arendt|talk]]) 06:00, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Today, I dedicate [[La Passion selon Sade]] to you, - a Christian hymn seemed not quite right ;) - I [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Gerda_Arendt&oldid=1047141488 decorated] with the image another missed friend took. Ouch! Didn't know there was a worm can on this issue. Thanks for responding to [[Special:Diff/1046330674‎|my question at AN]] regarding your language skills. (Actually, based on your last response at AN (''[[Special:Diff/1046360042‎|diff]]'', ''[[Special:Permalink/1046429065#07:50, 25 Sept|perma]]'') and your [[User:LouisAlain|user page]], you're a bit higher than an en-3; I'd place you probably around en-3.5 or en-3.7, but the {{tl|Babel}} template does not permit that.) Unfortunately, I learned of that AN discussion too late to take part in a substantive way. The discussion there is over now, so I don't wish to rehash it; I don't know how I would have voted on the block, and what I "might have said" in the discussion would not be relevant or helpful to you now.
: There are many infoboxes on music articles, all Bach cantatas, all Wagner operas, etc, many orchestras and choirs (no problem for those for some reason), many composers (Beethoven for example, where it was installed by community consensus. - There would be community consensus on the others as well if only someone would fight for it. I have no time for that). - Give an ibox to articles you create, - for some reason that is always free, the one kind of ownership I like ;) - You sort of win the right to decide on an infobox by elevating article quality, - guess how many Bach cantatas I improved to GA last year? (It's a kind of ownership I don't like, but at least it has two directions.) Watch [[BWV 194]] over the next few days, the last of an annual cycle ;) --[[User:Gerda Arendt|Gerda Arendt]] ([[User talk:Gerda Arendt|talk]]) 09:45, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
:: Coming from where you know I come from, little did I imagine this infobox thing could be contentious here. It really goes to show how cultural confrontations are an oh so easy trap to fall into with a potential for serious consequences attached. [[User:LouisAlain|LouisAlain]] ([[User talk:LouisAlain#top|talk]]) 10:13, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

However, I did want to let you know (perhaps you already do) that an [[WP:INDEF|indefinite block is not an infinite block]], and if you did want to contribute again at some point in the future, an appeal for an unblock is not impossible. I don't think that road would be an easy one, and if you choose to go that route, I think you should let some time elapse first (probably six months at least) and then marshal your resources and think about your approach for how to go about it. It sounds like [[User:Gerda Arendt|Gerda]] would be willing to help out if you asked, she is clearly an ally, and if you pinged me I would be willing to give you some feedback about your plans to come back. I'm struggling with how to say this properly so it doesn't come out wrong: you shouldn't view me either as an ally or as someone who's out to get you, because I'm neither; rather, you should see me as someone who is willing to help you attempt a return, even if it involves saying some things straight up that might be hard for you to hear, but could increase your chances of success. If you want that, ping me in six months or so, or email me via the link on the left sidebar on my Talk page, if you prefer a private connection, although I prefer open communication as much as feasible. (Gerda, you can do the same, if you initiate something.) In the meantime, enjoy a break, get out and smell the roses, and don't think about Wikipedia. If and when you're ready to think about a comeback and want some feedback about it, let me know. Good luck, [[User:Mathglot|Mathglot]] ([[User talk:Mathglot|talk]]) 16:56, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
::: Don't be afraid, the number of editors who will still revert infoboxes is small, the number of editors who will revert infoboxes in articles for which they are not principal contributors even smaller. I could give you names, but you will find out yourself. Ssilvers has not reverted, only put massive "{{diff|Talk:Pierre Boulez|703741623|703739235|reasons to oppose}}" in discussions where they should have been avoided, according to the arbs in the above-mentioned case (which we better simply forget): [[Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Infoboxes/Proposed decision#Editors reminded|Editors reminded:]] "All editors are reminded to maintain decorum and civility when engaged in discussions about infoboxes, and to avoid turning discussions about a single article's infobox into a discussion about infoboxes in general." - There was only one infobox discussion in 2016, Pierre Boulez, the scene is quite peaceful, actually. If you are unafraid, you can formally join the [[WP:QAI|cabal of the outcasts]] ;) - You are a [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Quality Article Improvement/Precious|precious]] member anyway, - by what you do! --[[User:Gerda Arendt|Gerda Arendt]] ([[User talk:Gerda Arendt|talk]]) 12:12, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

:::: How weird and unreal in the end that such a topic would even arise! ::::: I hope you won't think we're as committed to warfare as Swift's characters were. In fact I often find myself collaborating happily on all sorts of topics with folks who have diametrically opposed views to me on the single topic of infoboxes. Ssilvers, for example, produces beautiful work on musical theatre topics and would be the first person I'd go to if I had a question about Gilbert and Sullivan. Similarly, I'd like to think he'd ask me for help if he had problems with accessibility in tables, for example. None of the disputants want anything other than to improve the encyclopedia as they see it; it would be a dull world indeed, if we all agreed on everything! --[[User:RexxS|RexxS]] ([[User talk:RexxS|talk]]) 14:39, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

My take: (Wo)Man lives and exists only a small time. - Love that poetic "kleine Zeit", not "kurze Zeit (short time). Better word for bestehen very welcome, "bestehen" is ambiguous, for example "eine Prüfung bestehen" - pass an exam, but it's more than passing. Thanks for 250 DYK's. Impressive Statistic about your high quality articles on mainpage. [[User:Grimes2|Grimes2]] ([[User talk:Grimes2|talk]]) 12:28, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
It's only a few years ago that I discovered the [[synchronicity]] concept by Carl Young and am fascinated to observe how many times it applies every now and then in life. I notice that you created ''[[Der Mensch lebt und bestehet]]'' just 8 days after I started working here. It will soon be 5 years that we "know" each other (well I was interested in the Bach cantatas in the first place and you first intervened on the fr.wiki from my very early translations), and just when I arrive here, some sort of "coincidence" makes our respective trajectory meet again. Ain't that bizarre?
Of course I will translate into French your new born baby just, you may remember what happened to the ''[[Rhapsodie Macabre]]'' and its author just one month ago. The messages I left on your German talk page was linked by a Swiss sysop (his name appears on a message above re. my IP being blocked here last year) to the French administrators board and I still don't know what the point was to show that I was in contact with you? So my talk page was under surveillance and may still be (as well as yours). Another English user has asked for a translation in French of one of his recent articles. That part is done but I don't give the title since it would be too easy for another fr. sysop to spot and delate (read sabotage) if from the fr.Wikipedia. One of these weeks I will post from another IP. The fr. WK really is in need of a serious, deep and thorough piece of audit.

: Perhaps the connection with me is dangerous, BECAUSE I am the notorious wikiboxen criminal? (I archived the whole thing end of 2015, but some will never forget it.) I am preoccupied with Reger, singing in the [[Reger-Chor]] from the beginning, so expanded the composer, made his [[Max Reger works|list of works]] sortable, and wrote about one or the other composition. There is much more about the man and his works, but I need to stay focused. After an annual Bach cantata cycle, I'd like to expand [[Petite messe solennelle]], hopefully to GA status, and would like your help. It comes with a tag about translation from French, could you please check what could be interesting from there? - I believe it needs a composition history section and a better lead. At present we learn about some piano pieces before anything substantial about the work. - The German Wikipedia has that the ''Christe eleison'' is not by Rossini, - could check that also? I see you're working hard as hell on this ''Petite messe solennelle''. The reason why I am no longer as involved in Wiki as you comes from my termination at fr.wiki after all the work I produced over there (ranked 8th in terms of articles created). The one responsible for the deletion follows this page ([[User:Thibaut120094]] over there). Now the situation has turned amazingly absurd: the sysops act like vandals and delete good pages out of personal vendetta against my person. French amateurism and mediocrity at its best. Like I could still be affected by these hooligans. That's what happens when no mature grown-ups are around to act reasonably. I carry on the good work here (well, in the range of my possibilities) but I'm past the time to do deep and thorough research for Wiki when too many uneducated [[Blue Meanies (Yellow Submarine)|Meanies]] spoil the party. : My understanding of [[vaudeville]] is that it is a specific play whereas [[Comédie en vaudeville]] is a genre, hence more global (like, say, [[Boulevard theatre (aesthetic)]] doesn't refer to a particular play). {{u|LouisAlain}}, [[wikt:tl;dr|tl;dr]]: Despite your previous comments to the contrary, I think you still have Talk page access. Try replying below and see what happens.
No, please read the link. [[Vaudeville]] (in English Wikipedia) refers to an American genre of variety folk entertainment from about 1880 until the late 1920s, consisting of tap and soft-shoe dancing, singing of American folk melodies and comedy skits, that were played on the [[orpheum circuit]] and other American theatrical chains. The totally different, and much earlier, French genre thrived in the 18th century and was a stylized format that eventually evolved into opera buffa. Every time that you refer to a "vaudeville" written by a French author, I think you mean [[Comédie en vaudeville]]. You need to link the French genre so that English-speaking readers don't think you mean American vaudeville. If you like, you could link it like this to mean an individual show: <nowiki>[[Comédie en vaudeville|vaudeville]]</nowiki> -- [[User:Ssilvers|Ssilvers]] ([[User talk:Ssilvers|talk]]) 22:44, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

Details: you previously stated somewhere that you couldn't respond here at your Talk page because of your block, but a [[WP:BLOCK]] and talk page restriction are two different things, and I don't see that your Talk page access is restricted:
: Well, eventually the whole business sems to be another case of ''faux-ami''. Thanks for taking the time to explain, all the more since I'm a slow learner. Today, [[:fr:François-Pierre-Auguste Léger]] and some of the same are on my work list. I'll keep in mind your advice.
* {{user13|LouisAlain}}.
:Yet, when I come accross "comédie en vaudeville" in a French text (where such article doesn't exist), does it call for [[comédie en vaudeville]], <nowiki>[[Comédie en vaudeville|vaudeville]]</nowiki> or [[vaudeville]]? And after all, since those words are common in English where the readers can instantly tell the difference, can't they be treated like ''Act (theatre)'' and ''Play (theatre)'', that is with no links? [[User:LouisAlain|LouisAlain]] ([[User talk:LouisAlain#top|talk]]) 09:54, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
If your access here were restricted, when you follow the 'block log' link it would say "{{xt|(account creation blocked, '''cannot edit own talk page''')}}" (emphasis added), but it does not say that. Unless there is some kind of logging restriction that I am unaware of that doesn't show up at the 'block log', you continue to have free access to this page, and you may reply here, within the constraints of [[WP:PG|guidelines and policy]]. In particular, you could [[WP:APPEAL|appeal your block]] on this page at any time.

I mention this, because the ongoing discussion at AN, includes a new subsection entitled, "[[WP:AN#Suggestion / formal proposal|Suggestion / formal proposal]]" by User:Berig with a proposal of partially unblocking you. As I understand policy, it is permissible for you to respond via admin proxy, by responding here on your Talk page with whatever it is you'd like to say at the AN discussion, and requesting an admin to copy it there with your sig & timestamp. (I'm sure I've seen admins transfer good faith content about an AN blocking issue from a blocked User talk page to AN before, but I can't find a reference to it at [[WP:BLOCK]]. {{u|Berig}}, can you please confirm this, and provide a guideline or policy link if possible?)
:: (still watching:) I think if you want to very clear, leave [[comédie en vaudeville]], or perhaps offer an explanation the first time on a page. In Opera, almost everything is globally termed opera, but later more specifically [[dramma giocoso]], see [[Don Giovanni]], --[[User:Gerda Arendt|Gerda Arendt]] ([[User talk:Gerda Arendt|talk]]) 10:25, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

That said, Louis, I would be extremely cautious about making such a request to copy comments of yours to AN, as to be honest, you can be your own worst enemy sometimes, and silence there is probably your best bet right now. If I were you, I'd just let the conversation continue without you, with one exception: brief, neutrally-worded correction of clear errors of fact.
== false friends ==
Hi, please note that fr. ''[[:fr:violoniste|violoniste]]'' and [[violonist]] are [[false friend]]s. A violonist plays the [[violone]], a historic bass instrument, not the [[violin]]. I have corrected several of your errors. Kind regards --[[User:FordPrefect42|FordPrefect42]] ([[User talk:FordPrefect42|talk]]) 07:03, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

If you were to reply at AN via this method, I would restrict your comments to completely neutral statements about 100% provable errors of fact, and not to any (perceived) errors of judgement, opinion, or unprovable assertions. In particular, stay away from anything involving machine translation. For example: if an editor at the AN thread says something like, "On Octember 32nd, Louis added unsourced content to [[Weimar Republic]]" you can reply with, "No, I didn't; [[Special:History/Weimar Republic|here]] is a link to the page history, and I am not listed there", and just leave it at that. No argumentation, no opinion, no comments on other editors and what their motivations might be, no comments on how difficult/unfair the whole process is; just plain, simple, correction of fact, and nothing more. (Trust me; this is for your own good. The other exception would be if an admin or trusted editor at AN asks you a specific question there and asks you to respond here, but that probably won't happen.)
:Hi and thanks for noticing me, I should have been more cautious with "violinist" ; Yours, [[User:LouisAlain|LouisAlain]] ([[User talk:LouisAlain#top|talk]]) 08:49, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

If they wanted to read the main article about French poetry, they can go there directly, but it is *misleading* and counterproductive to suggest to a reader, with a bluelink, that there is something unusual about the term French poet or French playwright. We don't want to lead our readers on a chase around the encyclopedia. Trust that they will go to the articles that interest them. Finally, please do not link dates unless the article is *about* the date. See [[WP:MOSUNLINKDATES]]. Please read [[WP:OVERLINK]] carefully, and you will learn much. -- [[User:Ssilvers|Ssilvers]] ([[User talk:Ssilvers|talk]]) 02:31, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

Watching, pinged: I don't link countries and capital (and major) cities, nor composer. I link "year in music" if the piece is mentioned there (and I don't forget), for example [[1915 in music|1915]]. If I link to a piece of music, I do not also link to the composer, because people who don't know him or her can be sure to find the link in the composition. Enough for now. - Portals: I don't mention them in articles, but I feed the DYK section of [[Portal:Germany]], resulting in a nice archive. --[[User:Gerda Arendt|Gerda Arendt]] ([[User talk:Gerda Arendt|talk]]) 06:03, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi LouisAlain. Just letting you know that the outcome of the AN discussion is that you have been [[WP:CBAN|community banned from editing]]. The AN close is [https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard&diff=1050192525&oldid=1050178115 here] but is mostly a restatement of this message. When it looks like a duck, when it walks like a duck, and when it quacks like a duck I know it's a duck. When it behaves like a perv., when it adresses others like a crackpot and when it spends hours of its time looking for shit with its snout, I know the man is a sick one.
In the meantime, wiki.en has 800 more articles since I've started publishing here (plus the 200 something that I still have in my pocket) which means Wiki.fr could count 1,000 more pages had it not been for the insanity and sheer madness of the gang which performed a ''[[Lord of the Flies]]'' redux at my expense. ::: If you allow me, I notice [Doğan Akhanlı was a collaborator to an association named "recherche international"]. I didn't find anything regarding that association (you know how weak I am when it comes to finding references), yet, for what I know, "recherche" isn't a German word nor an English one, hence it must be a generic French name. In that case, ''international'' must end with an '''e'''. All the more so since association is also a feminine word in French.
::: Other than that, I'll have [[Johannes Schmidlin]] and [[Matthias Janz]] at your disposal (very litte refs in German though). [[Börsenblatt]] in being completed (light version). [[User:LouisAlain|LouisAlain]] ([[User talk:LouisAlain#top|talk]]) 20:30, 4 November 2021 (UTC)

Now, do you believe me when I tell you I'm bad at [[research|recherche]]... Which for, what I understand, can also be used in German. Unless it is some kind of Globish à la German. To any French native speaker, this looks suspicious though. You live, you learn. {{p|wink}} [[User:LouisAlain|LouisAlain]] ([[User talk:LouisAlain#top|talk]]) 21:25, 4 November 2021 (UTC)

=== [[Gott hat mir längst einen Engel gesandt]] ===
: Why I didn't see your message before will remain a mystery forever. Speaking of mystery, yes, a mystery in the Middle-Ages is what the article you linked to refers to. As for links, since I'm regularly told not to link to dates, years, common words etc. I've made the choice of not linking at all (well, nearly). Indeed, [[La Traviata]] without capitals seems weird to me but I adapt... though the ''[[Die Walküre]]'' apparently doesn't follow the rule. As pertains [[Kari Løvaas]] I must clarify the situation {{wink}}. Regarding [[Émilien Pacini]], it's just that I noticed there existed a [[en:category:French opera librettists]] and I worked at filling it. Why the irony may some ask? Because both the reliability and quality of '''all''' the 8760 articles that I translated from English (mainly), but also Spanish, Dutch, German, Swedish, Italian, Portuguese or even Czech, were questioned by 2 users in the process which led to my ban from the French wiki without one single voice calling for more restraint and courtesy vis-à-vis my work. I meticulously checked what the differences were between my raw version and the end result only to find that I had forgotten the [[accent circonflexe|^]] on ''aîné'' (elder) and some few other bits in this 47,750 bytes page.

The irony doesn't stop here since one of those who voted for Kanae Yamamoto be "promoted", also blocked for one month the IP from where I posted [[Thea Musgrave]] today...

== ITN recognition for [[Maurice Bourgue]] ==
*[[User:Olivier Tanguy|Olivier Tnaguy]] : ''l'attaque contre Darkoneko (d · c · b) était inacceptable.''

Miss you

[edit]
Die Fliege

Thank you for the immense contributions to French and German culture that we wouldn't have without you. Who will help me with Opéra de Montréal, a sad stub mentioned on the Main page? We can talk on the German Wikipedia, - you might drop help for that article on my talk there, for example. I'd understand, however, if you had no further intention to help here. Merci. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:56, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I will miss you too. Thanks for what you've done. Thanks for translating over 6000 German and French articles into English. Thanks for the immense work, you have done. You are a loss for the whole Wikipedia project. You can contact me under de:Benutzer Diskussion:Grimes2. Grimes2 (talk) 09:08, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I mentioned you on my talk, inviting "teh community" to create the two authors of "let me not be here in vain" which you can't do. I thank you so much for those you could do, such as Tag des offenen Denkmals. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:42, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Today, I dedicate La Passion selon Sade to you, - a Christian hymn seemed not quite right ;) - I decorated with the image another missed friend took. I dedicated Mass in B minor structure to him. The Passion will grow, promised. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:31, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Offer

[edit]

Thanks for responding to my question at AN regarding your language skills. (Actually, based on your last response at AN (diff, perma) and your user page, you're a bit higher than an en-3; I'd place you probably around en-3.5 or en-3.7, but the {{Babel}} template does not permit that.) Unfortunately, I learned of that AN discussion too late to take part in a substantive way. The discussion there is over now, so I don't wish to rehash it; I don't know how I would have voted on the block, and what I "might have said" in the discussion would not be relevant or helpful to you now.

However, I did want to let you know (perhaps you already do) that an indefinite block is not an infinite block, and if you did want to contribute again at some point in the future, an appeal for an unblock is not impossible. I don't think that road would be an easy one, and if you choose to go that route, I think you should let some time elapse first (probably six months at least) and then marshal your resources and think about your approach for how to go about it. It sounds like Gerda would be willing to help out if you asked, she is clearly an ally, and if you pinged me I would be willing to give you some feedback about your plans to come back. Good luck, Mathglot (talk) 16:56, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

a centre for early childhood music learning in Freiburg,
based on the Gordon music learning theory?

... that Leo Kestenberg, a concert pianist,
initiated a large-scale
reform of music education in Prussia,
but had to flee the Nazis
first to Prague and then to Tel Aviv?

Sorry that I didn't see that we have Kunstmuseen Krefeld already. Thank you for great content! We would be poorer without it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:50, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Same, and working on it. I uploaded new pics (click on songs), including "our" concert (after exactly two years without) and a cow sunset, - I liked the premiere of This too shall pass in the presence of the composer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:04, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your talk page access

[edit]

LouisAlain, tl;dr: Despite your previous comments to the contrary, I think you still have Talk page access. Try replying below and see what happens.

Details: you previously stated somewhere that you couldn't respond here at your Talk page because of your block, but a WP:BLOCK and talk page restriction are two different things, and I don't see that your Talk page access is restricted:

If your access here were restricted, when you follow the 'block log' link it would say "(account creation blocked, cannot edit own talk page)" (emphasis added), but it does not say that. Unless there is some kind of logging restriction that I am unaware of that doesn't show up at the 'block log', you continue to have free access to this page, and you may reply here, within the constraints of guidelines and policy. In particular, you could appeal your block on this page at any time.

I mention this, because the ongoing discussion at AN, includes a new subsection entitled, "Suggestion / formal proposal" by User:Berig with a proposal of partially unblocking you. As I understand policy, it is permissible for you to respond via admin proxy, by responding here on your Talk page with whatever it is you'd like to say at the AN discussion, and requesting an admin to copy it there with your sig & timestamp. (I'm sure I've seen admins transfer good faith content about an AN blocking issue from a blocked User talk page to AN before, but I can't find a reference to it at WP:BLOCK. Berig, can you please confirm this, and provide a guideline or policy link if possible?)

If you were to reply at AN via this method, I would restrict your comments to completely neutral statements about 100% provable errors of fact, and not to any (perceived) errors of judgement, opinion, or unprovable assertions. In particular, stay away from anything involving machine translation. For example: if an editor at the AN thread says something like, "On Octember 32nd, Louis added unsourced content to Weimar Republic" you can reply with, "No, I didn't; here is a link to the page history, and I am not listed there", and just leave it at that.

Louis, please try and respond to this thread now with just a "Hello. ~~~~" — that should establish whether your page access is working or not. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 21:13, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mathglot, I think what you suggest is perfectly acceptable per WP:COMMON.--Berig (talk) 07:20, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Mathglot, thanks for your kind intervention and advice. Just, I have no intention whatsoever to crawl on the ground and twist like a worm in order to beg pardon and mercy. I was blocked for an invented lie that wasn't one. First, I didn't like to be summoned to court where the final result was already set up. Had I been asked if I used a translation machine I would have answered : yes. I simply answered the question that was asked. Just, I don't use Google translate but another one (DeepL). This imaginary and made up lie sure called for a block. There was a massive drive to push me out (no name given following your suggestion) and like many other users before me, it succeeded.
Apart native anglophones like you with an astounding abilities in many foreign languages, who doesn't use online translators ? Yes, the end result is bound to be an pleasant read for English speakers. One even asked some years ago if I really understood what I was writing. How nice of him! And I thought Wikipedia was a collaborative encyclopedia where everyone was invited to improve the project. Quite the opposite, some here behave like vandals.
I thought the references issue was closed since my 30 or so last translations were filled with references a galore. Yet, someone called for the deletion of Cologne Cathedral quarter with 48 checked and verified references. I'm no longer interested in working in such friendly environment. Anyway, using a translating machine will always be fraught with mistakes and errors. It would be criminal from me to pursue my wrecking job here. I've returned to the fr. Wiki, publishing under I.P. The attribution thingie is meaningless to me.
As Gerda Arendt (talk · contribs) wrote, there was an effective German Mannschaft at work here and it has been dispelled by "well meant" people. Wikipedia's lost, not mine.
I've started trying my hand on the de. Wiki but with mitigated success so far. If Grimes2 (hi Grimes2) is curious, it's there : de:Anne-Sophie Lapix and de:Harry Roselmack. The third try was deleted.
As you can see, this reply was written without Google Translate nor DeepL. Is it better or even wore ? 2A01:E0A:98E:9040:189E:1399:3187:8ACE (talk) 15:29, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh dear, dear, dear. Louis, surely it was clear that I meant you should try to reply here logged in to your LouisAlain id as usual, wasn't it? I hope I haven't led you astray. In any case: to answer your last question: your English is fine; I've already said you are above an en-3, perfectly adequate for editing at en-wiki; that was never the problem, and is not now.
As for the rest, I'm afraid you've only hurt yourself further, especially with this edit at WP:AN, and even somewhat with the message above under the IP address, as that is considered block evasion unless you didn't realize you weren't logged in. I'm really trying to help you here, but sadly, it seems you can't help yourself. I'm so sorry; absent a miracle, the outcome at AN now looks nearly inevitable to me. It pains me to say so, since it's obvious you are capable of great work. Maybe it will work out better for you at de-wiki; I hope so. All the best, Mathglot (talk) 02:31, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Community ban

[edit]

Hi LouisAlain. Just letting you know that the outcome of the AN discussion is that you have been community banned from editing. The AN close is here but is mostly a restatement of this message. If you do wish to return to en-WP editing in the future then you'll need to lodge an appeal per WP:UNBAN. And of course if you don't wish to return to en-WP editing, then all the best for wherever your interests take you.

Not sure if you have talkpage access (your block log says yes but the section above implies not). Either way, am happy to discuss further if required. Regards, -- Euryalus (talk) 10:25, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Nicolas Mahler

[edit]

On 20 October 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Nicolas Mahler, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Nicolas Mahler. LouisAlain, thanks for for the good teamwork (together with Gerda). Grimes2 (talk) 07:14, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Today: see yourself, read about a hymn praying to not be on earth in vain, about a comics artist you created whose characters have character (another collaboration of the "perennial gang", miss you!), and in memory of the last prima donna assoluta, Edita Gruberová. I had to go to two grave sites last week, one who died now, one who died 10 years ago, so standing upright and in black seems appropriate. More colours - but subdued - can be had on hikes. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:00, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Max Creutz

[edit]

On 21 October 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Max Creutz, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Did you know ...

... that the title of
La Passion selon Sade,
an opera by Sylvano Bussotti
(pictured with star Cathy Berberian),
caused a scandal at its premiere
and had to be changed
for the next performance?

24 October 2021

LouisAlain, this article is dedicated to you! Scandal seems to fit better than a hymn ;) I miss your inspiration, translation of cultural topics you found in obscure corners, good spirits, thankful heart. Thank you for literary context from Kafka to Schopenhauer. I believe it's a scandal that we found no constructive way of collaboration, - I felt so talking in vain in the AN thread. Au revoir, and for a hymn after all, there's Möge die Straße uns zusammenführen, and telling you and myself: "go on with life, have a laugh, don't get too upset". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:15, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Gerda, thank you for this last one and let it be known that I share your Weltanschaung : Don't Look Back in Anger, if you like literary references...
There is this article de:Heinrich Nüttgens which would have perfectly fit on this site. Just, it now can be read on two other versions of Wiki, too bad for native anglophones...
You'd think that was the end of the story. Nope madame ! A swiss Benutzer came out of the blue and offered me his version of Swiss hospitality and courageously deleted my last word. I am not blocked, nor banned but left with no option but to leave by myself. Goes to show Wikipedia and me weren't meant for each other. It would have happened sooner or later so no regret whatsoever, I'm averse to this sick mindset. This is exactly how things unfolded on the fr-Wiki 5 and a half year ago with a tag on my back for the rest of my life; Some kind of Scarlet Letter so to speak.  :-) Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
I see your Hilf, Herr meines Lebens links to a video on a site I was (not exactly kindly) advised not to link to some years ago from my best friend on this site. He has now launched a so-called "investigation" against Grime2's production. Last time I checked, Grimes2 was not amused to be mistaken with a fraudster. When it looks like a duck, when it walks like a duck, and when it quacks like a duck I know it's a duck. When it behaves like a perv., when it adresses others like a crackpot and when it spends hours of its time looking for shit with its snout, I know the man is a sick one.
At the end of the day, I keep on having fun with translating from French, German, Italian etc. Whether these pages are online or not is no longer any of my concern...

Gerda's November corner

[edit]
November songs

In November, I can offer some reading, - three feast days in a row, reformation followed by All Saints' and All Souls. On All Saints, we sang in choir in a mass - a 2021 first - and rehearsed (with the other group) for the next such thing next Sunday. All Souls is the birthday of the subject of my first article who will play a major concert on 14 November. Today we "celebrate" the first DYK for which you laid the base in a German sandbox. Thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:53, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Another fine DYK which asked for much research from you. Maybe could you choose any article in French or German with already many avalaible references which would spare you the time and energy to engage on hours of online research? LouisAlain (talk) 13:27, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You can do those, I go by where I need red links filled, the next Börsenblatt (stub is enough). I hope to take Habakuk soon, just finishing a recent death article, Doğan Akhanlı. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:32, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you allow me, I notice [Doğan Akhanlı was a collaborator to an association named "recherche international"]. I didn't find anything regarding that association (you know how weak I am when it comes to finding references), yet, for what I know, "recherche" isn't a German word nor an English one, hence it must be a generic French name. In that case, international must end with an e. All the more so since association is also a feminine word in French.
Other than that, I'll have Johannes Schmidlin and Matthias Janz at your disposal (very litte refs in German though). Börsenblatt in being completed (light version). LouisAlain (talk) 20:30, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Teach French to recherche international? I need to take care of a FAC, and some articles in German, - perhaps win a few others to check out articles? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:00, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Now, do you believe me when I tell you I'm bad at recherche... Which for, what I understand, can also be used in German. Unless it is some kind of Globish à la German. To any French native speaker, this looks suspicious though. You live, you learn. LouisAlain (talk) 21:25, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Noch einmal, ich sollte meine große Klappe behalten but I can't. In this article you chose not to use Seamless robe of Jesus and sent to de:Heilig-Rock-Wallfahrt. If I knew the reason why, that would teach me something again. LouisAlain (talk) 22:13, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

?? The seamless robe is linked, only: the piece was composed for a pilgrimage to the Trier one (which is covered in German in great detail), not the general concept (which is covered in English with little detail). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:21, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Teaching German: the idiom is "die Klappe halten" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:22, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
