Jafar Erattupetta was born on May 11, 1966, in Konnachadath, Erattupetta, to Moideen Kutty and Ummuhani of Puthenparambu Alumthara. He studied at GMLPS Puliyinchuvad Kavala, GUPS Erattupetta, St. George High School Aruvithura, UHS Chaliyam Farook, Henry Baker College Melukavu, and JHA College Vadakkankara, Malappuram.

He is married to Sabitha, the daughter of Makkar from Vellupparambil. They have three daughters—Salha Fathima, Zaina Fathima, and Sana Fathima—and two sons-in-law, Ajmal and Altaf.
