Old town was situated on the banks of Purna river but due to thret of floods from Purna. Government decided to migret village from there to present location. Which is now near National Highway number 6.Governmet gave the plots to the people according to their old plots in old town. Muktainagar is the modern name of city old name was Edlabad. In the year 2000 ceremony take Palace at the city where name was changed. The old name was given by Muslim rulers of that time.

The main water supply of city is from Purna river. After the Hatnur dam bult the river basin have huge water resvior before that the river was totally dry. People able to cross river by walking through it because their was no water. Thats why citizens respect Purna river much. Most of the co-operative societys are given name after river.

In the year 1959 huge flood comed in the old town any many places of Muktainagar taluka. Ghodasgaon village which is 10km away from the city suffered by the flood at that time. Villagers was spend their whole night on the branches of Tamarind trees. Many lost their lives. After the Hatnur dam bult. Government decided to reestablish the villages to higher and new places. New plots are given to citizens on new location also Government given Project affected Certificate to the people had their homes due to the project.

[[Jalgaon]] is located 60&nbsp;km from Muktainagar. [[Nadgaon]] is also nearby and is the village where the former president of India, [[Pratibha Patil]], was born. Muktainagar is the hometown of [[Eknath Khadse]], who represents Muktainagar in the [[Maharashtra Legislative Assembly]] (MLA).

==Economy==
Agriculture and religious tourism are the source of most jobs in Muktainagar. The predominant crops in the tehsil are [[Cotton]], [[Onion]], [[Banana]], [[Jowar]] and [[Groundnuts]] are grown on the banks of the [[Tapi River, India|Tapi]] and [[Purna]] rivers.

==Culture==

Maharashtriyan people celebrate the festivals of [[Gudi Padwa]], [[Diwali]], and Poda. On [[Ekadashi|Ekdashi]], Muktainagar [[Varkari]] pilgrims go to the [[Muktabai]] temple at Muktainagar. People also go on pilgrimage to [[Pandharpur]], to meet the god [[Pandurang]]. In the month of February on Ekadashi, two days before [[Maha Shivaratri]], a fair takes place at Muktabai temple. People come to meet the goddess, Muktabai, and to take blessings from the goddess. A number of palaquins come to Muktainagar every year.

In Changdev, a village near Muktainagar, there is a temple to Yogi [[Changdev Maharaj]]. On Maha Shivaratri, there is a fair on the banks of the Purna river. The temple was built in the [[Hemadpanthi]] style of architecture.

Muktainagar is known for being the place where the ex-president of India, [[Pratibha Patil]], started her political career in the early 1960s, and was associated with it for quite a long time.{{citation needed|date=May 2015}}

After Indipendence most of the time the Muktainagar politics ruled by [[Indian National Congress]]. Politicians like Haribhau Jawde, Foramar President of India [[Pratibha Patil]] was MLA of Muktainagar. After Khadse rise as leader of BJP no such a competition in front of him. Congress doesn't have any leader in Muktainagar. Shivasena have Chandrakant Patil who faught State Election against Khadse but could not able to win.it only because [[Shiv Sena|Shivasena]]  decided to stand against BJP in 2014 assembly election.

The Revenue Minister of Maharashtra is [[Eknath Khadse]]. He has been the MLA representative from Muktainagar since 1989. He was an opposition leader from 2009 to 2014.{{citation needed|date=May 2015}} Khadse is known as 'NathaBhau' in Maharashtra.

Muktainagar (formerly Edlabad) is a town in Jalgaon district, Maharashtra, India. It is the administrative headquarter of its eponymous taluka. It is located in North Maharashtra region. [1][2]

It located near bank of Purna river and is highest populated town in Muktainagar taluka.[2]

History

During British rule, Muktainagar taluka was known as Edlabad petha and was part of East Khandesh district.[3] Around 1880, Muktainagar taluka was made part of Khandesh district's Bhusaval subdivision.[4] Muktainagar taluk (then known as Edlabad mahal) was part of Bhusaval taluka.[5]

The former President of India Pratibha Patil started her political career in Muktainagar in the early 1960s.[7] The former revenue minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Khadse, was MLA from Muktainagar from 1989 to 2019.[8] Shiv Sena's Chandrakant Nimba Patil is the current MLA from the Muktainagar Vidhan Sabha constituency. He narrowly defeated Rohini Eknath Khadse of the BJP in the 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections.[9]
