Hi, while I have never run across Sparda2k1 before today, I see that he was recently unblocked by you. I would strongly recommend re-blocking him, as I just reverted an edit by him that did the exact same thing he was blocked for, which he promised he wouldn't do anymore. There was no communication on the talk page for these edits. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Note to deleting admin, I originally left a request to have the article protected from creation on Ak husky after I saw that this article was created and deleted once. I find it suspicious that, even though the creator has now requested this article be deleted, he has repeatedly attempted to remove my salt tag, perhaps hoping to recreate the article again once the current one is deleted.--SamHolt6 (talk) 23:09, 2 April 2018 (UTC) |

:As soon as you say "our account", you admit that it's a shared account, something that Wikipedia does not permit and that requires the account to be blocked. You should also take a look at WP:MEAT: When there's a group of people that are editing with the same objectives, Wikipedia treats them as one - and that means that a block of one of them is treated as a block of all of them, and any attempt to edit despite such a block is block evasion and will see the evading IP or account blocked as well. You were evading blocks, for example on 212.251.7.112, when I blocked User:0guests0, and you have continued to evade blocks. :Nina07011960 I left a rather detailed comment when I reviewed the page, giving specific examples of the issues that need to be improved (though the list of examples was not exhaustive, of course). If you have addressed those issues (everywhere, not just regarding those specific examples), the draft is ready to be resubmitted. To me, however, it seems you have not fixed those issues I mentioned in my comment. Many of the sources you added actually are not reliable by Wikipedia's standards (that includes Wikipedia itself), and several others do not mention Sheppard and thus cannot provide any information about her and have no place in an article about her. That was one of the issues I explicitly mentioned, and to me it seems it has gotten worse, not better. Huon (talk) 22:18, 18 April 2018 (UTC) |

What do you mean by "gotten worse"? I think your definition of "reliable sources," again, has not taken into account the difficulty in finding the archives of "Negro" publications online. Since you are not clear, all I can do is add more sources. You deleted information which was well documented and appeared in several sources. :By "gotten worse" I mean that the number of references that don't mention Sheppard has increased. Those sources might be useful in articles on topics they actually discuss, but not in an article on Sheppard. Also, that's not "my definition" but Wikipedia's; both in my review of the draft and above I provided links that point to WP:Identifying reliable sources. I'm pretty sure I mentioned before that while Wikipedia requires sources to be published, they don't have to be published online. The Library of Congress should have archived every newspaper or magazine published in the US, "Negro" or otherwise. Huon (talk) 22:54, 18 April 2018 (UTC) |

In the interest of public information, I respectfully request that the historical narrative on the School of Design’s page be restored to the state before I made my edits this week. Because of my lack of familiarity with the Wikipedia interface, I misunderstood that my edits were not being submitted for review by Wikipedia, but instead were being applied to the page in real time when I “published” them. My intention was to bring the page up to date by (1) removing references to “PennDesign,” since the School has not operated under that name since August of 2019; (2) removing the names of individuals listed on the page as members of the faculty who have are no longer teaching at the School, where the implication was that they were currently on the faculty; and (3) editing the list of degrees offered at the School to reflect the current offerings. My intention was not to “aggrandize” the School, but instead to provide information that would better serve Wikipedia users. I understand you may have additions to the page, but it seems regrettable that 150 years of history have been expunged from the historical record. I now understand the desired changes are to be flagged with "request to edit" notations for consideration by Wikpedia editors. Thank you for considering my request. <!-- Template:Unsigned --><small class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned comment added by PennMGrant (talk • contribs) 14:18, 22 January 2020 (UTC)</small> <!--Autosigned by SineBot--> |

:PennMGrant Before I gutted the article, it had been tagged for "wording that promotes the subject in a subjective manner without imparting real information" for six years. I do not think you added (most of) that wording, but irrespective of who added it, it needed to be removed. Beyond the puffery, most of the history section was just a long list of names of past faculty, most of whom appear to not be all that notable. What the article lacked entirely were reliable sources that are independent of the subject. I thus removed most of the article that just represented "what Penn wants to say about Penn" and replaced it by a little information based on the most substantive independent source I came about while checking the name change. The "public information" I removed from the article largely is still on Penn's website, I believe. No independently sourced information got lost (because there was none to begin with). Admittedly the article now focuses too much on one recent event and should be expanded, but that should be done based on independent sources discussing the Weitzman School and its history (which would need to be found), not based on Penn's own website. Obviously you're clueless about patents. A patent can be applied for, and granted, in countries A, B, C and D, for work done in country X. :The specific statement those sources are cited for is: "It was the melody of Sheppard's arrangement of the spiritual "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" that was sung to Czech composer Antonín Dvořák by his student Harry Burleigh in New York, which was quoted in the first movement of his Symphony from the New World." The sources might confirm that Burleigh sang that spiritual to Dvořák, but how do they confirm that it was Sheppard's arrangement? :Sooku, it would have been nice if you had left any clue what this is about, such as a diff or at least a link to the article in question. If this is about Bose at Talk:List of Indian inventions and discoveries and my comment from 2012, then I stand by my statement that "getting a US patent" is not itself an Indian invention. Bose probably invented something that got patented in the US, but the content I removed back in 2012 did not say what it was. Do you propose adding an entry to the list that says, "Unknown, invented by Bose and patented in the US"? I would oppose that. :You're trying to engage in original synthesis: Instead of summarizing what reliable published sources report about Sheppard, you have a preconceived notion what the draft should say and then try to make use of sources that, while none of them confirms your given text, confirm something each that, with good faith and combination, can be made into an almost-confirmation of your text. Wikipedia unfortunately does not accept original synthesis. If you want the article to say that Sheppard's work inspired Dvořák, you'll need to find a source that confirms that claim. :While neither of those sources appears particularly reliable to me, what they say is that Bose invented "the use of galena (lead sulfide) crystals contacted by a metal point for detecting millimeter electromagnetic waves", ie a solid-state diode detector. However, it appears that Bose's invention didn't catch on and that useful solid-state diode detectors, ones based on silicon instead of galena, were invented by someone else. I'm not sure it's worth mentioning in the list that Bose invented what turned out to be a dead end, but that's a discussion that should be had at Talk:List of Indian inventions and discoveries. Huon -- looks like you accept but don't acknowledge my point that a US patent CAN come from an Indian invention. It did not seem to me that you understood that. Now you impose a personal value judgment to withhold objective information, that JC Bose was in fact issued a US patent (No. 755,840, issued 29 March 1904). That is a fact and it belongs in his biography. It is not for you or for me to decide its significance; that is the reader's job. :Jagadish Chandra Bose's biography already mentions his US patent and provides quite a bit of context, such as Bose's general dislike of patenting which seems to have been overcome only once, for this one patent. I don't see why I should disagree with statements that to me appear based on reliable published sources. Do you know of sources of similar or greater reliability that state Bose was in favor of patenting? Then please present them at Talk:Jagadish Chandra Bose. |
|||
:That said, we of course have an editorial duty to discern between the important and the unimportant. The list of Indian inventions and discoveries is not meant to exhaustively list every single thing ever patented by an Indian. For example, in 2018 alone Indian residents were granted 2,311 patents - and that's only Indian patents, I believe, not including, say, US patents granted to Indians. If we tried to list all those inventions, the list would become so huge that it would be useless. Wikipedia is not a patent database. Either way, whether a specific invention should be included in the list should be discussed at Talk:List of Indian inventions and discoveries, not here. :You don't have to explain sexism. You have to explain where any of those sources connects Sheppard and Dvořák. Not in the sources and we have to connect the dots ourselves? That's original synthesis, a kind of original research, and Wikipedia does not accept it. We could discuss whether Burleigh would have needed to rely on someone else's arrangement of a song he learned from his grandfather, but it doesn't matter either way: If the sources do not explicitly confirm Burleigh sang Sheppard's arrangement to Dvořák, that statement has no place on Wikipedia. Maybe a scholarly journal on music history would be a better venue for that information. Huon (talk) 20:09, 21 April 2018 (UTC) |

Well I added the quote from John Work stating he was informed of the facts directly from Sarah Sheppard, AND the source. Hi, it appears edits by is pretty much a block evasion by . The new IP started edit warring in multiple articles right after the first IP got blocked. Using pretty much the same wordings in talkpages, (nationalism/jingoism) etc. It looks like there is a IP-hopping in multiple articles by the same person. A tag has been placed on :File:Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor of Bangladesh Bank cropped.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. |
|||
:Nina07011960 First of all, I should apologize; I got confused and it wasn't you who was recently warned about personal attacks. :That said, there's no "project" I could hand over to someone else. I reviewed your draft and gave a very detailed explanation of why it currently does not meet Wikipedia's standards. If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here. |

: Tenebrae I only made such a promise for the Superman article, not Superman ownership disputes. Superman ownership disputes is a low-profile article that nobody but me seems to care about, which nobody has developed during the time I was blocked. This is why I did not see any need to propose edits. The Superman article is a different matter. It is a popular article that many editors are touchy about. I got blocked because I didn't know how to deal with that level of sensitivity. |
|||

: I made an edit to Superman ownership disputes, and it was reverted out of hand by Sro23. He raised no issues about the content, it was just about me. Hi Huon, I saw that you just answered and fulfilled an edit request in :Kuwait. The user is an obvious sock of Shingling334, who was blocked several years ago and has been socking regularly since then. Making such help requests is one of his typical behaviors. You may remember that I mentioned this when the same thing, with the same user, happened last year: User talk:Huon/Archive30#Answered edit request from blocked user. I generally revert his edits even if they're "good", per WP:BMB. I just wanted to ask you again whether you want to keep the edit. :: |
:IamNotU, thanks for the note. I should probably have checked who made the request, but I spent some time on assessing that edit request and ultimately decided that making that change would improve the article; thus I'm not going to revert myself. Huon (talk) 18:36, 18 March 2020 (UTC) |

::Ok, I understand. I'd just point out though that the WP:BMB policy is pretty clear: This person sometimes appears to by trying to make useful contributions, though they invariably are heavily biased. But they also engage in a good amount of childish vandalism, see this six-week spree: (all the IPs are his). |
|||
::I know I don't have to quote policy to you, but I do think it's important; in accepting an edit or edit request, we can't consider only whether the change would improve the article, or its removal be to the detriment of it. The policy also requires us to take into consideration the extent to which allowing a blocked/banned, long-term-abusive editor to accomplish edits is to the detriment of Wikipedia as a whole. Recently he's barely edited at all, I believe because we've been doing a good job of reverting every one of his edits, and he's realizing it's kind of pointless and boring. |
|||
::Out of the many edits he's made from dozens of socks and hundreds of IPs since 2017, only three or four that I know of have been supported by an editor who felt that they had merit - two of them from you. In those cases it emboldened him to ramp up his socking activity, vandalism, use of proxies, etc. The spree I linked to above started immediately after you carried out his protected edit request the last time. I can't say that it was the cause, but I think it's related, as it happened in at least one other case too. Today he has carried on with some renewed vandalism and silly edits to my talk page, which he had stopped some time ago - see Special:Contributions/46.69.57.79. I wouldn't be surprised to see more of the same soon. |
|||
::If you still think his requested edit should stand, then could you please try to be on the lookout so that it doesn't happen again in the future? Thanks. --IamNotU (talk) 00:58, 19 March 2020 (UTC) |

A tag has been placed on :User:Micaela Miano, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are: |
|||
* It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. |
|||
*It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of http://emergeamericas.com/speaker/cesar-cernuda/. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. <p>If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.</p> |
|||
Hi, |
|||
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. <span style=font-size:11px><span style="color:#614051">CHRISSY</span><span style="color:#301934;font-size:11px">MAD</span> <span style="color:#9090C0;letter-spacing:-2px;font-size:9px">❯❯❯</span><span style="color:#614051;font-size=11px">¯\_(ツ)_/¯</span></span> 20:05, 14 May 2018 (UTC) |

== A note for you on my talk page, when you might have time. == |
|||
I would need some support on the following three items: |
|||
1. "Basically a dictionary entry with ..." |
|||
I started working on the article based on two other articles already published: |
|||
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moin |
|||
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Servus |
|||
if they have not been considered a dictionary entry, this one shouldnt as well. Especially because the greeting is nowadays even sold on shirts, beer, and cider. |
|||
2. "...a few local media mentioning the subject in passing" |
|||
What exactly is meant by local media? One of the references is one of the biggest German speaking newspapers sold all around Germany. Is this still considered local? Would it help to add some books as reference? |
|||
3. Inappropriate tone for an encyclopedia; |
|||
Happy to improve, but not sure what part you are referring to exactly? |
|||
Dear Huon, |
|||
Thanks and cheers, |
|||
Philipp |

If you could simply delete this after reading, I've written you a letter, of sorts, on my talk page. |
|||
:Funkfux Regarding your specific questions: |
|||
:#Those articles, particularly Servus, are not necessarily good examples to follow. Draft:Gude, beyond content about the company of that name, basically amounts to "It's dialect for Guten Tag" (except the draft claims it can also be Guten Morgen or Guten Abend, something I didn't see in the cited sources). That's something Wiktionary is the natural home for, not Wikipedia. |
|||
:#Of the draft's references, SZ merely gives the meaning in High German. The part it's cited for in the draft, about people "having truly arrived when they're greeted that way", is fluff that isn't meant to be taken literally as a factual statement. I don't have immediate access to the Frankfurter Wörterbuch, but I'd be surprised if it says that itself is the first written reference for the word. If that sentence is meant to say that the Frankfurter Wörterbuch documents where the word first was used in writing, not that the Wörterbuch itself is the first use in writing, then that's useless without telling our readers where (and when!) that first use occurred. The Quick Guide to the Language of Frankfurt doesn't mention Gude at all and thus is useless as reference for an article on Gude. One of the Frankfurter Rundschau articles is a passing mention that doesn't say what it's cited for; the other is about the company named Gude, not about the word. That leaves FAZ, which again does little beyond giving the meaning(s) in High German. In particular, it's misrepresented in the draft unless "gained attention to a wider audience" is supposed to mean "all over Hesse". |
|||
:#Particularly the "If you are a newcomer to the region... " sentence is unsuitable for an encyclopedia. We don't address our readers. See also my comment on the SZ piece that's based on. Huon (talk) 02:19, 18 May 2018 (UTC) |

Sincerely, Christian, |
|||
:Suraj Chiluwal That draft would need to be rewritten almost in its entirety. As I said in my review comments, it's thoroughly promotional, and significant amounts of content are not based on reliable sources. Furthermore, many of the given sources do not meet Wikipedia's standards of reliability and should be removed (we're looking for sources with editorial oversight and a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy); some don't even mention you at all. |
|||
:Writing about oneself is strongly discouraged due to the inherent conflict of interest. If you cannot see how your draft's tone is inappropriate for an encyclopedia, your conflict of interest may be too strong for you to neutrally write about yourself. Hi, sorry was a bit dismissive earlier, forgot you were an admin and have a lot of experience. The problem I have is there seems to be a difference of interpretation between admins as have seen two admin turn down a G5 on the same basis that I did but on the otherhand you may well be right and they were wrong. Have looked through the guidelines and essays and cant find anything more than is at WP:CSD. Am considering a deletion review to clear it up and wont remove any G5s unless its supported at dreview, thanks Atlantic306 (talk) 22:03, 28 May 2018 (UTC) |

Hi Huon; I was wondering if you could help with the infobox template for the NZTCS? |
|||

Back in May 2018 Ambrosia10, Awkwafaba and I were discussing how to display the revised 2008 New Zealand conservation statuses correctly. You advised us to upload new versions of the images, which I've done (commons:Category:NZTCS_Category_diagrams). The differences between old and new conservation statuses are summarised in the table on Talk:New_Zealand_Threat_Classification_System. |

:Thanks again for your help on 5/28/18 during IRC chat. I'm the one who asked re: improper ref. in Classical Lib. article. After your assumption that ref. pertained to a source in, "Further Reading Section" you told me to see WP:SFN. I did. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Shortened_footnotes states clearly that SFN should be listed to source in "Ref. Section" and I found also here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Further_reading#Relation_to_reference_sections in "Relation to Reference Sections" section, it indicates the "Further Reading Sect." should not be used as part of a ref. supporting the article. OK full circle, How should I proceed to correct?Bjhodge8 (talk) 09:54, 30 May 2018 (UTC) |
|||
Since I uploaded new images, all the updated statuses are appearing correctly in infoboxes – with two exceptions. The statuses Not Threatened (NT) and Data Deficient (DD) do not seem to be working; when I use these codes the infobox returns an error, even though the file names (Status NZTCS DD.svg and Status NZTCS NT.svg) follow the same pattern as the other images. These statuses will apply to many NZ species articles so it would be good to sort this out. Could you help with editing the template so these two status images appear correctly when NT and DD are the inputs? |
|||
::The references already are listed in the references section. sfn will link those entries to the cited works - maybe "Further reading" will have to be named "Bibliography" or something like that to clarify that those works are the ones being referred to. Taking this here for now so we can go back and forth until we make a decision. Should we list out the other bills that Planned Parenthood rated on those years Allen got 0% to keep it non-biased? I’d can do that research without laundry listing it. It’s usually only a few bills each year. |

Hi! |
|||
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki. |
|||
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed. |
|||
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help. |
|||
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter. |
|||
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January. |
|||
Thank you. |

*AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline. |

*The template db-afc-move has been created - this template is similar to db-move when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move. |

Hello, |

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey. |
|||
Hi there! I see that you replied to User talk:Aaronmichaelalper and it looks like the interaction from my standard template message about conflict of interest is being interpreted rather poorly. He replied back with what could be perceived as a (empty) legal threat which doesn't jive with me staying as such. I know ignorance is bliss but this editor just had to disclose he was an editor of the book on the userpage. I don't understand the personal stance on the reply or it appears he's taking it personal when it's simply guidelines. – <span style="color:navy">TheGridExe</span> (<span style="color:navy">talk</span>) 04:35, 2 June 2018 (UTC) |

Hi! I noticed that you have declined the submission of the a.m. article on the grounds of non-notability the person. If I am not wrong, the verification was performed by a bot. However, as noted by WP:GNG, significant coverage is there by reliable sources. The three references are major nationwide Turkish newspapers, two in Turkish language and one in English. Foreign language sources do not violate the rule. The article is well inline cited. Therefore, I ask you kindly to recheck it on your own and to reconsider your decision. If needed more references can be added. But at this moment, I don't see a necessity. CeeGee 08:23, 2 June 2018 (UTC) |

:CeeGee Of the current references, I have serious doubts about the reliability of #1. Yeni Akit is a newspaper, but the piece in question is not a newspaper article. It doesn't show a publication date, doesn't give author information, and is only one in a long list of similar biographical pieces. It also happens to be identical to the Turkish Wikipedia article, so someone there is infringing someone else's copyright. My impression was that the newspaper scraped Wikipedia and forgot to credit us. #2 is an interview, Kavak talking about herself, with only very little independent coverage. #3 is a government publication that should be considered a primary source. It's her appointment, signed by the President, not independent coverage of her. #4 is a passing mention; what it says about Kavak is "said Prof. Dr. Zehra Neşe Kavak, the university’s rector and a member of its governing board." I wouldn't consider that significant coverage of Kavak. If the draft were a live article in its current state, I'd nominate it for deletion. This is made even worse because the draft was - and to some degree still is - blatantly promotional. Huon (talk) 20:01, 2 June 2018 (UTC) |

Katniss May the odds be ever in your favor ♥ 22:30, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

[edit]"do you have more to say than my name?" of course, who do you "think" you are?!
we didn't said less than your "name" "smarty" one and you don't have to be derisive to other people!
you are just another dumbshit a$$hole "firm", "company" and nothing more than that!
you didn't had to block our account by confusing it with other I.P.s from this internet cafe here and accusing us for "actions" we didn't done unnecessarily without reason!
you "understood" or you need special explanation?! because you are saying whatever comes in your mind with "firstlies and secondlies" (and others can count!) of what is "permitted" or not and such stuff pretending the "unmistakeable", keep them for yourself, we were just trying to help that's all and we get misunderstandings with blocks!
"....you are engaging in block evasion,...." no we are not engaging in "block evasion" as you are saying and we don't like to, there were and other users from this internet cafe here and confused our I.P. with other I.P.s!
"you should contest the block on your original account instead of creating new accounts or editing without an account" no matter editing with account or editing without account it is still blocked!
and who told you that our original account was blocked? our original account was not blocked to be contested as you are saying until a change happened with a blocked I.P. from this internet cafe here!
also you are wrong, wikipedia doesn't allow creation of new accounts from blocked I.P.s, our account was created before it was confused with a blocked I.P. from this internet cafe here! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.65.206.148 (talk) 21:42, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
- As soon as you say "our account", you admit that it's a shared account, something that Wikipedia does not permit and that requires the account to be blocked. You have also continued to edit-war.
- The question you apparently object the most to, whether you have more to say than my name, was in the Wikipedia help chat on IRC when your two previous comments were "@+Huon" and "@Huon", more than ten minutes apart, with multiple substantial comments addressed to you in between. Of course the response to that question again was "@Huon"...

COI editor unblocked in 2016 to change username never did so
[edit]In 2016, you unblocked User:PennDesign Communications so that he or she could change his or her username into something that complies with our policies. He or she never did so and has resumed editing. Can you please reblock this account and reinforce our COI and Paid Editing policies with this editor or group of editors? Thanks!
(@OhNoitsJamie: You were also involved in the block, too, so you might like to know about this.) ElKevbo (talk) 16:06, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
- @ElKevbo: The username issue is resolved, and I have left a note at the editor's user talk page explaining the problems with their conduct and pointing out the disclosure requirements. While I'm not happy with their conduct, I don't think it's worthy of an immediate block. If there are further concerns, WP:AIV deals not only with vandals but also with (blatant) spammers; for less blatant spam WP:COIN may be a better venue. I have also gutted the article to remove large chunks of unsourced or self-sourced content. Huon (talk) 22:35, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Weitzman School of Design at Penn
[edit]Dear Huon,
In the interest of public information, I respectfully request that the historical narrative on the School of Design’s page be restored to the state before I made my edits this week. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PennMGrant (talk • contribs) 14:18, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
- @PennMGrant: Before I gutted the article, it had been tagged for "wording that promotes the subject in a subjective manner without imparting real information" for six years. US patent is hardly an Indian invention?
[edit]Obviously you're clueless about patents. A patent can be applied for, and granted, in countries A, B, C and D, for work done in country X. The location of an invention and the countries in which it is patented are unrelated. Sooku (talk) 05:48, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
- Sooku, it would have been nice if you had left any clue what this is about, such as a diff or at least a link to the article in question. If we knew what he got the patent for, we could discuss whether that is significant enough to be mentioned in the list. Do you know what it was? Huon (talk) 22:07, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
Thank you Huong. Please see http://web.mit.edu/varun_ag/www/bose.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sooku (talk • contribs) 02:41, 7 February 2020 (UTC) AND https://www.edn.com/jc-bose-patents-radio-wave-detector-september-30-1901/ Sooku (talk) 02:45, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- While neither of those sources appears particularly reliable to me, what they say is that Bose invented "the use of galena (lead sulfide) crystals contacted by a metal point for detecting millimeter electromagnetic waves", ie a solid-state diode detector. Huon (talk) 22:19, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
Please note, the current Article says that Bose did not want to apply for patents, which (even you will agree) is false. Sooku (talk) 22:41, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
- Sooku, I indeed accept that an Indian invention can be patented in the US. I never disputed that. I did state that "getting a US patent" is not itself an Indian invention - others were getting US patents long before an Indian did. Maybe you misunderstood that?
- Jagadish Chandra Bose's biography already mentions his US patent and provides quite a bit of context, such as Bose's general dislike of patenting which seems to have been overcome only once, for this one patent. I don't see why I should disagree with statements that to me appear based on reliable published sources. Do you know of sources of similar or greater reliability that state Bose was in favor of patenting? Then please present them at Talk:Jagadish Chandra Bose.
- That said, we of course have an editorial duty to discern between the important and the unimportant. Huon (talk) 23:23, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
Sorshe Ilish
[edit]Hello, I saw you edited Sorshe Ilish, this Bangladeshi jingoistic editor again changed the place of origin to Bangladesh, instead of Bengal. It is clearly a Bengali dish, however, this user on multiple article is changing Bengali dishes to Bangladeshi dishes. Others are Chomchom and Bakarkhani. (2600:1001:B026:1B66:E109:6E3B:A16F:A5C9 (talk) 05:43, 9 February 2020 (UTC))
- Also, their (Za-ari-masen) reversals in Kazi Nazrul Islam and Gauḍa (city) is filled with Bangladeshi jingoism. (2600:1001:B026:1B66:E109:6E3B:A16F:A5C9 (talk) 05:46, 9 February 2020 (UTC))
- While I agree on shorshe ilish which indeed is Bengali and not just Bangladeshi, many of the the other edits are entirely appropriate, and your main concern https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Kazi_Nazrul_Islam&diff=prev&oldid=939752337 here], for example seems to be that the word "Indian" got removed - without providing any justification why it belongs or why only jingoism could motivate the removal. There is no attempt from your side to resolve the issue on the talk pages, and of course there's also Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Highpeaks35. I think you should reconsider your own conduct. Huon (talk) 21:18, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
Sock IPs
[edit]Hi, it appears edits by Za-ari-masen (talk) 13:23, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
is pretty much a block evasion by . The new IP started edit warring in multiple articles right after the first IP got blocked. Using pretty much the same wordings in talkpages, (nationalism/jingoism) etc. It looks like there is a IP-hopping in multiple articles by the same person.- Unfortunately the IPv6 range is a little too large to block. I'll look into semi-protecting the most affected articles, but it feels like playing whack-a-mole either way. Huon (talk) 18:19, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
A tag has been placed on File:Dr.
~ Nahid Talk 17:22, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor of Bangladesh Bank cropped.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor of Bangladesh Bank cropped.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Edit requests from Shingling334
[edit]Hi Huon, I saw that you just answered and fulfilled an edit request in Kuwait. Also, if you'd like some information about how to identify him in the future - which is quite easy - I could send you an email. --IamNotU (talk) 03:30, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
- IamNotU, thanks for the note. I should probably have checked who made the request, but I spent some time on assessing that edit request and ultimately decided that making that change would improve the article; thus I'm not going to revert myself. Huon (talk) 18:36, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, I understand. I'd just point out though that the WP:BMB policy is pretty clear:
that even if the editor were to make good edits, permitting them to re-join the community is perceived to pose enough risk of disruption, issues, or harm, that they may not edit at all, even if the edits seem good.
This person sometimes appears to by trying to make useful contributions, though they invariably are heavily biased. But they also engage in a good amount of childish vandalism, see this six-week spree: [1] (all the IPs are his). - I know I don't have to quote policy to you, but I do think it's important; in accepting an edit or edit request, we can't consider only whether the change would improve the article, or its removal be to the detriment of it.
- Out of the many edits he's made from dozens of socks and hundreds of IPs since 2017, only three or four that I know of have been supported by an editor who felt that they had merit - two of them from you.
- If you still think his requested edit should stand, then could you please try to be on the lookout so that it doesn't happen again in the future? Thanks. --IamNotU (talk) 00:58, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
- IamNotU, if you think that reverting the edit would be beneficial for the project, I won't object. Huon (talk) 01:15, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
- I do. I've often let other socks' edits stand when I felt that the benefit clearly outweighed the harm, and it wouldn't lead to further disruption. But in this case, according to my experience with this person's behavior, it's in the best interest of Wikipedia to block, and failing that revert, any edit or request. Thanks for your understanding... --IamNotU (talk) 02:03, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
- IamNotU, if you think that reverting the edit would be beneficial for the project, I won't object. Huon (talk) 01:15, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, I understand. I'd just point out though that the WP:BMB policy is pretty clear:

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.
To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

[edit]Help with NZTCS template
[edit]Hi Huon; I was wondering if you could help with the infobox template for the NZTCS?
Back in May 2018 @Ambrosia10:, @Awkwafaba: and I were discussing how to display the revised 2008 New Zealand conservation statuses correctly. You advised us to upload new versions of the images, which I've done (commons:Category:NZTCS_Category_diagrams). The differences between old and new conservation statuses are summarised in the table on Talk:New_Zealand_Threat_Classification_System.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template db-afc-move has been created - this template is similar to db-move when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Cheers, Primefac, via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
New administrator activity requirement
[edit]The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.
Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:
- Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
- Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period
Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Happy Ninth Adminship Anniversary!
[edit]The article The Factory Girls has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Notability not proven. No reviews, no SIGCOV, just a few passing mentions in local publications about local productions of the play.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:00, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:SV Tasmania Berlin logo.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:SV Tasmania Berlin logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:40, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add NoACEMM
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:23, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research
[edit]Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
BGerdemann (WMF) (talk) 19:22, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
