Mason died from drilling a hole in his own head seeking a permanent high. Mason is originally from London (he reaped Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones in 1969), and was transferred to his present location some time ago.

Mason collects money from the dead, deals, smuggles and uses drugs. He has become an alcoholic in response to the pressures of his job. He is attracted to Daisy Adair and is often protective of her. He became jealous when she became attracted to another man, Ray, whom Mason felt was dangerous; Mason eventually killed him while trying to protect her. While he is drawn to attractive females, his feelings for Daisy seem to run much deeper. Although Rube strongly disapproves of Mason's drug use, he has a soft spot for him. Rube took Mason home when he became seriously ill after attempting to smuggle a balloon full of heroin. The balloon burst in Mason's body and while a Reaper cannot die, they can get very sick. Rube was very angry at Mason, but he took care of him until he was back on his feet. Mason and George are very close, but their relationship is more of a brother and sister. After Mason killed Ray, a graveling came out of his body. This graveling was especially malevolent towards both Daisy and Mason, haunting their house and frightening Daisy. George disposed of the Ray graveling when he was about to attack a sleeping Mason, using a touch like the one used to remove souls. Her touch dissolved the graveling permanently.
