He started his career at the Panathinaikos FC football academy system. He played for Panathinaikos for two years making 27 appearances in the Greek league and 5 appearances in European matches. He won 2 league titles with the "Greens" and was one of the players that took Panathinaikos to the 1971 European Cup Final v. Ajax Amsterdam. He played in the following 1971-1972 European Champions Club Cup (now UEFA Champions League) matches: 16/6/1970 Jeuness d' Esch vs. Panathinaikos: 1-2, 9/30/1970 Panathinaikos vs. Jeuness d' Esch: 5-0, 21/10/1970 Panathinaikos vs. Slovan: 3-0, 4/11/1970 Slovan - Panathinaikos:2-1, and 28/4/1971 Panathinaikos vs. Red Star: 3-0. http://wiki.phantis.com/index.php/1971_European_Cup_Final#vs_Jeuness_d.27_Esch. He did not play in the European Cup final against Ajax, and the match against Penarol in Montevideo for the Intercontinental Cup. Dimitrios Kalligeris (Greek: Δημήτριος Καλλιγέρης; 1949–2011) was a Greek professional footballer who played for Panathinaikos as a right winger. He was born in Athens, Greece, on 1 January 1949. He started his football career in the Panathinaikos youth system and was member of the team that reached the European Cup of Champions in 1971.[1] He played for Panathinaikos from 1970 to 1972 and later, he played for Kalamata F.C. from 1972 to 1974.[2][3]
After retirement, he lived in Thebes, Greece. He owned a restaurant and he was an amateur hagiographer. He died in a car accident in the Athens suburb of Nea Ionia.[4]
