::The term "fan death" is quite common in English, with an estimated 210,000 Google hits, and the majority of top hits pertain to this topic, while "fan death theory" gets 51 Ghits. Ghits aren't always a good indicator, especially with historical topics ignored by popular culture, such as ancient Estonian gods (see WP:AADP#Google test), but for something in current popular culture, Google's a good deal more reliable for determining what's the most common name. In other words, I oppose moving, since "fan death" is the normal name in English. Nyttend (talk) 22:45, 25 February 2019 (UTC) |

*::Would WP:COMMONNAME really apply in this situation, though? That policy seems to be most applicable to people known by a name or nickname different from their birthname. *:::@Bodeseven, a full RM might be the best option. They are definitely Polideportivo now, but it's hard to see the abbreviation CP used anywhere. It's not in the news article, and the new website has a few different forms. The badge this year uses C. Pvo. Ejido, and in the text "Poli Ejido" is the short form used. It's also confusing that both websites are still active, and if the full name were used, the page for the former club would need to move or merged (if they finally actually did merge given the adoption of the old badge?). -2pou (talk) 09:16, 7 December 2024 (UTC) |

*::::They didn't merged. AFAIK Poli El Ejido 1969 (previously named El Ejido 2012) is a different club to Poli Ejido, which dissapeared in 2012; They bought the rights to use the old badge, even though it's not indicative of the name it currently has. |

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.

the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

[edit]Uncontroversial technical requests
[edit]- Saint Boniface Cathedral → St. Boniface Cathedral (currently a redirect back to Saint Boniface Cathedral) (move · discuss) – The abbreviated form is typically used in English (see, e.g., the cathedral website, St. Boniface, Winnipeg). Graham (talk) 03:45, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Club Recreativo Granada → Recreativo Granada (currently a redirect back to Club Recreativo Granada) (move · discuss) – Team is mostly known by its supporters as just Recreativo Granada (also Granada B). The club uses both the short and the long form of the name interchangeably on it's official page and on X, but i think the article should be named using the short form for simplicity sake. Sources: https://x.com/search?q=Recreativo Granada&src=typed_query, https://x.com/CanteraNazari, https://es.besoccer.com/equipo/granada-b Bodeseven (talk) 17:01, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- User:Drnoble/Hywind → Hywind (currently a redirect instead to Hywind Scotland) (move · discuss) – created new page based on https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hywind for original project, and included links to later Hywind Scotland project. Drnoble (talk) 17:48, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Contested technical requests
[edit]- Visakhapatnam railway station → Visakhapatnam Junction railway station (currently a redirect back to Visakhapatnam railway station) (move · discuss) – Visakhapatnam Junction is the common and official name of the railway station. Already there is a article existing with the latter name (Visakhapatnam Junction), so unable to move the page from Visakhapatnam railway station to Visakhapatnam Junction railway station Jayanthkumar123 (talk) 16:29, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- There are some sources that still mention the name as the former title, and there seems to ne by a recent rename. ToadetteEdit (talk) 19:23, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- Lidia Gueiler → Lydia Gueiler (currently a redirect back to Lidia Gueiler) (move · discuss) – "Y" spelling seems to be the one used by Gueiler. It's reflected in presidential decrees during her presidency, in authored works, and in her authorized biography. Krisgabwoosh (talk) 02:15, 3 December 2024 (UTC) Krisgabwoosh (talk) 02:15, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- This would warrant a full discussion because it seems like "Lidia" is the WP:COMMONNAME in English-language sources: The New York Times, BBC, The Independent, The Washington Post, The Times, Los Angeles Times, El Pais, Reuters, Encyclopædia Britannica, Bolivian Express, United Press International, etc., as well as numerous books and academic sources. RachelTensions (talk) 05:33, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Would WP:COMMONNAME really apply in this situation, though? That policy seems to be most applicable to people known by a name or nickname different from their birthname. In this case, the only difference is that one spelling is the more correct one. Should a misspelling be preferred simply because most sources use it? Krisgabwoosh (talk) 18:21, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- That'd be up to the RM process to decide. Since most sources spell it "Lidia", it's likely that somebody searching for her article would also expect it to be at "Lidia". At most, IMO, we should include a WP:EXPLNOTE in the lead of her article explaining that it is sometimes spelled "Lydia". RachelTensions (talk) 03:25, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

- Columbus metropolitan area, Ohio → Columbus, Ohio metropolitan area (currently a redirect back to Columbus metropolitan area, Ohio) (move · discuss) – To be consistent with the first sentence in the paragraph Assadzadeh (talk) 00:18, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Assadzadeh The current name is consistent with Columbus metropolitan area, Georgia, but also I feel that the Ohio page might deserve primary topic for Columbus metropolitan area as it has approximately 5x the views as the Georgia page. An RM would be the best place to discuss this. Bensci54 (talk) 17:14, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- This current name seems to be the result of some 2016 discussion that I am having a hard time finding. Either way, it would need a mass move request or RFC given there are many other articles in the same vein (Rochester metropolitan area, New York among others). - CD El Ejido → CP El Ejido (currently a redirect back to CD El Ejido) (move · discuss) – This team has had their name changed for some time, finally recovering the "Poli" moniker, so i think it's only fair that the team article starts to use the name that it goes by now. Alternatively the article could be named: Polideportivo El Ejido. Also, the old logo was restored, so that would have to be changed too. Bodeseven (talk) 16:43, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Bodeseven - This name change doesn't appear to be mentioned in the article itself, can you provide some sources to support that the proposed new name is more common? Raladic (talk) 16:49, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- I do. There's an article talking about the name change in detail. The club's page has algo updated the name, and it's also on it's X (twitter) account.
- I assume the new name is also present on the RFEF official tables.

- @Bodeseven, a full RM might be the best option. -2pou (talk) 09:16, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- They didn't merged. AFAIK Poli El Ejido 1969 (previously named El Ejido 2012) is a different club to Poli Ejido, which dissapeared in 2012; They bought the rights to use the old badge, even though it's not indicative of the name it currently has.
- I proposed moving the page to "CP El Ejido" as a short, temporary solution to represent the name change somewhat accurately.
- I don't know either why the club has two websites now, it's confusing. Bodeseven (talk) 15:06, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

- @K-popguardian, I’d say that a formal RM is needed for this to settle on an official consensus-based title. It has a pretty contentious move history, and actually got here via a RM that had no participation per WP:RMNOMIN. -2pou (talk) 18:47, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshwadeep, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu Administrative Service (currently a redirect to DANICS) → Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (Civil) Services (move · discuss) – Correct name. See https://www.mha.gov.in/sites/default/files/2022-08/DANICS_270314%5B1%5D.PDF. 117.230.80.188 (talk) 13:55, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
- Is there a shorter WP:COMMONNAME for this civil service? Probably "DANICS"? Surely nobody commonly refers to it as "Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (Civil) Services"I'm not contesting this move (both the original and proposed move are similarly lengthy), just curious because that title is a lot. RachelTensions (talk) 14:11, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
- Change to another title Both the current title and the new one suggested by 117.230.80.188 seem to be too long as per Wikipedia:Concise. DANICS meets WP:UCRN since it is the most common one found in sources and is much shorter than the current title and should be used instead. Sangsangaplaz (Talk to me! I'm willing to help) 14:46, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
- (Disclaimer: Saw this on Discord) Based all of the sources in the article, including the one linked by this IP editor, DANICS is the current abbreviation of this subject. I see no evidence that it is no longer used, as the lead claims. This title is ridiculously long and obviously violates CONCISE, so I will boldly move to DANICS. Any editor may request that I revert the move by asking on my talk page. Toadspike [Talk] 14:48, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

- Matacoan languages → Mataguayan languages (currently a redirect back to Matacoan languages) (move · discuss) – Mataguayan is the name of the family in non-English languages, and the vast majority in English as well. In addition, Mataco is seen as a pejorative term for the Wichí. Erobb639 (talk) 21:15, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
- 100% of the English-language sources cited in the article use the term "Mataco" and "Matacoan", and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) says that we should "use the version of the name of the subject that is most common in the English language, as you would find it in reliable sources". RachelTensions (talk) 23:35, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
- There are only three sources on the page, and two use Matacoan. The majority of papers out there are using Mataguayan however. The sourcing on the page isn't fantastic either, not that the sources are bad, but there are newer more accurate sources that better reflect the consensus. I can predict that this is going to come down to demonstrating the commonality of Mataguayan though. What would the actual bar for that be? Because the amount of citations used on the article itself is fairly arbitrary. Erobb639 (talk) 01:47, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

- There is already an RM for Võro language. Meanwhile, Mulgi dialect had a db-move declined, saying that it may be potentially controversial – such that an RM should be opened (a discussion, that is; not a technical request). If someone declines a bold move, the next step shouldn't be to ask again here, but rather to open an RM discussion. @Kwamikagami: You can open an RM by clicking "discuss" on your request. The G Wikian (talk) 06:55, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- @The G Wikian: There are many articles in Category:National anthems that don't use a national anthem's foreign-language name, so this wouldn't create greater consistency. Per the policy on foreign-language titles, we follow the most common name in English-language sources. Based on a Google Ngrams search, it does not appear that the proposed title would be more common. SilverLocust 💬 08:44, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
