Journal names

You know, it's much simpler to simply capitalize them properly from the start instead of using International journal of Middle East studies and then creating redirects for it. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 08:32, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

@Headbomb: I'm intentionally trying to create redirects from the wrong capitalizations that show up in Ex Libris Group (University of Houston Libraries) or other academic databases so that people using the wrong capitalizations get redirected to the right ones. I copy the capitalizations verbatim and fix them later, partly because I want to figure out which wrong capitalizations occur (so I can create the redirects). @The ed17: Thanks for informing me! One thing is that even industrial land pays taxes which funds the schools. An example: Wiseburn Unified School District in California has large parts of El Segundo. They are not residential, but those parts are still important as they have corporate operations that funnel tax money to the Wiseburn schools. Likewise that Waukesha County part of Milwaukee would have business operations funneling tax money to Menomonee schools. Additionally, there's a possibility that in the future land could be rezoned to residential. WhisperToMe (talk) 05:53, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

Interesting points! I wouldn't dispute them, but I would say that it's not necessary to include that info in the article. First, we could always update the article in the future if it's rezoned. @The ed17: When I get the chance I may check newspaper archives to see if a source explicitly addresses that parts of Milwaukee may be in other counties but that no students live there. (there have been documents saying "this part of this city is in this district but nobody lives there" such as this one saying that nobody lives in the part of Bell, California that is in Montebello USD). Having a single sentence collectively acknowledge that all children living in Milwaukee are in MPS despite any other parts of the city technically being in other districts would be a good way to pre-emptively address such questions.

While it's true not everything has to be covered in an article, the fact that school districts are separate from city governments (in many states) and don't always align with city boundaries (also in many states, Wisconsin included!) is a recurring theme and a very important detail in U.S. city-related articles.

Hi, I am writing to enquire about the French International School of Hong Kong Wikipedia source, more specifically:

If you are looking for proof about the school starting out mostly white, that has been swept under the rugs. The school was created by the "white only" school known as Sumter Academy after Sumter Academy struggled economically to keep their school open. @2607:FB91:2F8D:32BD:9C35:ADFF:FEA8:E7F6: Wikipedia has a policy of Wikipedia:Reliable_sources#Primary,_secondary,_and_tertiary_sources which states "Wikipedia articles should be based mainly on reliable secondary sources, i.e., a document or recording that relates or discusses information originally presented elsewhere." and it also has the Wikipedia:No original research policy which prohibits the encyclopedia from covering "material—such as facts, allegations, and ideas—for which no reliable, published sources exist." Generally speaking, a newspaper or published book (as in an academic or third party publisher, not self-publishing) needs to cover the allegation first. If an idea does not appear in published sources like newspapers, magazines, published books, academic journals, etc. the concept cannot be covered by the Wikipedia article.

The article on the UCS Charter School in Livingston pretty much is a summary of the newspaper coverage of the school. Newspapers count as reliable sources for school articles.

It's a bit complicated, but I hope I've conveyed what Wikipedia covers.

Are you sure that those documents for Bek Air Flight 2100 are in Russian and not the Kazakh language? I can't read any Slavic or Turkic languages, but my understanding is that Kazakh is used for official Kazakh government documents, and it's often written in Cyrillic script like Russian is. @Carguychris: Google Translate identified the document text as Russian, and entering the text at https://www.dcode.fr/language-recognition gave Russian as the highest probability. I'll see if I can find some other ways of confirming the language. I've noticed some languages like Arabic are never used in aviation crash reporting (Arabic speaking countries tend to instead use English and French in such documents). That comparison seems valid. The two languages seems to have very different syntax, which makes sense considering they're from disparate families. Point taken regarding languages used for aviation crash reports in some cultures; perhaps the Kazakh authorities traditionally use Russian because they've historically operated mostly Soviet and Russian aircraft. Additionally, the Russian Interstate Aviation Committee did accident investigation for accidents and incidents in Kazakhstan until recently (the 2013 SCAT Airlines Flight 760 accident was investigated by the IAC). Links to US DOT ROSAP reports that you are adding

Greetings. The recent documents that you are adding to Ext links from the US DOT ROSAP site do not belong in the External links section. By adding them there you are inadvertantly creating extra work for editors who need to clean up the material that you are adding. As example, you added an ext link to ROSAP report to external link in the article Media/Wawa Line. A moment ago I deleted it from External links and added the link as a citation within the section that deals with 1979 accident. In other cases where you have added ROSAP reports link should be added in citation format under Further reading and not as an external link. The external links guidelines at Wikipedia:External_links#What_to_link state that permissible ELs include: "Sites that contain neutral and accurate material that is relevant to an encyclopedic understanding of the subject and cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to copyright issues, amount of detail (such as professional athlete statistics, movie or television credits, interview transcripts, or online textbooks), or other reasons." Therefore, accident reports, from my understanding, can be ELs. Anyhow, personally, I have no preference on whether they are under either an external links section or in a further reading section, and I'm happy to put them in further reading sections. 1. I use the Wikipedia Library to search for articles in Newspapers.com which discuss the school in-depth, are not "routine news" (school sports team wins a football game would be "routine news"), and which are often about two or more paragraphs. Sometimes Google Books, EBSCOHost, and/or JSTOR may have relevant articles. I also sometimes contact area newspapers and/or use the Wikipedia:RX page to ask for additional newspaper sources.

2. School districts are supposed to, as per Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Common_outcomes#School_districts. But just in case, I try to find Newspapers.com sources to cement notability

@BurgeoningContracting: Another idea is to contact the Liberty Vindicator and see if they have articles about the 1996 rebuilding of Hardin High. If you have access to the archives of the Houston Chronicle (I do too), you can check if they have articles about such too. I notice you added extremely long decimal coordinates to the Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies article. Google has taken to providing 16-digit coordinates in what is believed to be a copyright trap scheme. That level of precision is in the 1/100th of a micrometre range. @Atubofsilverware: I pinged him and replied to some of his points. It seems he's basing it on the dot of the site where it supposedly happened as being on the other side of the township line. I think the issue lies in trying to analyze data on a seemingly ambiguous line, which is why I told him it may be better to defer to what local newspapers say. @Tintor2: Thanks for the notice! I'm not familiar w the series, so I don't yet have an opinion of which way it should go. My guess is that I would use the pronouns characters use in the concluding parts of any English translations (once the characters' situations are fully revealed), and footnote if such pronouns/honorifics are used differently in the original Japanese manga. User Conduct Dispute

I have concerns that you are violating Wikipedia:No original research policy across multiple articles.

It is original research to find a quote from Johann Strauss [3] and apply it across multiple articles. For Istanbul university's lead for example, you need an overview WP:Secondary source about Istanbul University or a WP:Tertiary source such as an encyclopedia about universities. Some of your additions I believe are completely unsourced. Are you doing the translation yourself?

French language used to be lingua franca in many countries. From the Wikipedia article: With France emerging as the leading political, economic, and cultural power of Europe in the 16th century, the language was adopted by royal courts throughout the continent, including the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Russia, and as the language of communication between European academics, merchants, and diplomats.. This isn't unique to Ottoman Empire.

Your addition was based on an irrelevant Journal of the American Medical Association source from 1922!!! This is not only massively UNDUE, but it occupies almost one third of the lead! Actually in the Young Turks thing, the French was already there before I made this edit, but in any case... it can be gone. The French stuff in the empire wasn't just use by the nobility, but by educational institutions of ethnic minorities. Anyway, I'll go through them and see if secondary sources talk about each one. No, I usually add translations I saw in other sources.

Overall, I was concerned about the Eurocentric bias (PhD thesis and Wikipedia:Systemic bias) and the name issue taking too much space, especially in the lead. I think you'd probably agree the lead of Istanbul University is so much better now compared to 2019 version.

For the UN sources, note that United Nations has 6 official languages. You can find documents in all 6 languages. So you will probably find Ottoman Public Debt Administration in 6 languages. Bogazicili (talk) 19:32, 18 November 2024 (UTC)

This book page states how French relates to the name of the Young Turks so there could be material incorporated from that, though I don't know if this means "Jeune-Turcs" should be in the lead. You should avoid etymology in the first sentence per MOS:LEADLANG: Do not include non-English equivalents in the lead sentence just to show etymology.

Nicely done. I forgot the west river (Mercer County) students were assigned to either the Stanton or Hazen high schools. The school district dissolution was driven by the elimination of US government funding per the school board president Dave Isaak. These impact payments stopped or were reduced after the town was sold to the residents.
