Ataul Hakim Sarwar was born on 1 January 1966 in Narsingdi district. He received his commission in the infantry corp in 1984. Hasan was born in [[Old Dhaka]] and grew up in [[Tejkunipara]] , [[Farmgate]]. He is the youngest of the four sons of Late Abdul Hakim and Late Hasina Khatun.

He did his Secondary and Higher Secondary Education from [[University Laboratory School and College|University Laboratory School]] and [[Dhaka College]] in 1980 and 1982 respectively. He holds a PhD degree on security studies from [[Jahangirnagar University]]. He obtained three master’s degrees in Defence Studies ([[National University, Bangladesh|National University]]), War Studies and Security Studies ,[[Bangladesh University of Professionals]]. He is a graduate of [[Defence Services Command and Staff College (Bangladesh)|Defence Services Command and Staff College]] , Staff College of Brazil and completed Portuguese Language Course from Language Institute of Rio-de-Janeiro, Brazil. He completed Armed Forces War Course in 2004 and National Defence Course in 2013.

Hasan was commissioned in the Corps of Infantry on 21st December 1984.He has command experience at various echelons in the Army that include commanding Officer of an infantry battalion, Commander of two infantry brigades.

He served as staff officer at Army Headquarters, also worked as ‘Strategic Planner’ in the Combined Planning Group (CPG) of [[United States Central Command|United States Central Command Headquarters (USCENTCOM)]] , Tampa, USA. He has the experience as Colonel Staff of an Infantry Division. Been in the service of as the Director of Counter Terrorism and Intelligence Bureau of Defence Services Forces Intelligence. Served as the Director General Operations and Plan at Armed Forces Division. He has to his credit the experience of serving as Instructor at the [[School of Infantry and Tactics|Tactics Wing of School of Infantry and Tactics]]. Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan is a retired lieutenant general of the Bangladesh Army who served as chief of general staff (CGS) of the Bangladesh Army.[1] He is the former vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals.[2]

Ataul Hakim Sarwar was born on 1 January 1966 in Narsingdi district. He received his commission in the infantry corp in 1984. He graduated from Defence Services Command and Staff College and Brazilian Army Command and General Staff College.[2]

Career

Hasan commanded an infantry battalion and commanded 71st Mechanized Brigade and 77th Infantry Brigade. He was the first general officer commanding of 10th Infantry Division and area commander of Cox's Bazar Area.[2] In 2017, he was the chief patron of Bangladesh International School and College.[3] He also served as the logistics area commander.[4] He also served as the general officer commanding of 55th Infantry Division and area commander, Jashore Area. He served as the director general of Prime Minister's Office, Armed Forces Division. He served as strategic planner of US Central Command.

On 5 March 2020, Hasan was appointed vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals.[5] He was the president of Jashore Golf and Country Club.[6]
