Bhoi surname is used in different parts of Odisha by different communities. In Western Odisha (Sambalpur,Bargarh,Bolangir etc) Bhoi surname is used by Kuilta (kshetriya verna)caste. They are currently categorized as OBC (Other Backward Classes) on the basis of Mandal Commission, 1979.
The Bhoi (also known as Bauri) surname is also found in Eastern Odisha.
