Sonesta International Hotels Corporation is a hotel chain with 100,000 rooms in 1,200 hotels which they manage or franchise as of August 2021. Its annual revenue is $450 million, and it is based in Newton, Massachusetts.[1] 34% of Sonesta is owned by Service Properties Trust, a Boston real estate trust.[2] In early 2020, Service Properties Trust transferred over 200 hotels from Marriott Hotels & Resorts and IHG Hotels & Resorts to Sonesta brands, when the previous brands did not make minimum paymenhts during the pandemic.[3] In March 2021 Sonesta bought Red Lion Hotels Corporation with over 900 hotels.[4]
Its biggest hotels are in Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago and New Orleans.[5] Its brands include Royal Sonesta, Sonesta, Sonesta Select, Sonesta Simply Suites, Sonesta ES Suites, Sonesta Posada del Inca, Sonesta Cruise Collection, Americas Best Value Inn, Canadas Best Value Inn, GuestHouse Extended Stay, Hotel RL, Knights Inn, Red Lion Hotels and Signature Inn.[4]
The chain had three hotels when it was bought in 2012 by The RMR Group, a US asset management company.[3] It had 80 hotels in early 2020.[5]
