On June 16, 2022, 70-year-old Robert Findlay Smith,[1] a gun dealer,[2][3] opened fire during a potluck meeting at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, United States. Initially, Two people were reported dead and 1 person injured.[4] Subsequently, the injured person died resulting in 3 dead.[5][6][7]

During a Sunday morning service on June 19, 2022, The church gathered to honor the members who were shot and killed during the shooting.[8]

  • Sarah Yeager, 75[9]
  • Walter Rainey, 84[9]
  • Jane Pounds, 84, initially reported injured, died at a local hospital. Her family requested her name be withheld, but was made public by the press.[10][11]
