Alberto Luigi Sangiovanni-Vincentelli (born June 23, 1947[1]) is an Italian-American businessman, computer scientist, and IEEE fellow. Widely recognized for his contributions to the field of electronic design automation (EDA), Dr. Sangiovanni-Vincentelli has published 15 books and 800 papers on a wide range of EDA topics that include design automation, design methodologies, control, hybrid systems and system-level design. He currently sits on the board of directors of Cadence Design Systems,[2] an EDA company he co-founded in 1988.

Early Life and Education

Born in Milan, Italy, Dr. Sangiovanni-Vincentelli received his master of science degree in engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1971. In 1976, he moved to University of California at Berkeley, where he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, and holds the position of Edgar L. and Harold H. Buttner Chair[3] and serves as a full professor.

Career

A world-renowned authority on all aspects of integrated circuit and system design such as numerical algorithms, circuit simulation, verification, layout, logic synthesis and distributed system analysis, Dr. Sangiovanni-Vincentelli was instrumental in bringing EDA technology to market and ensuring its commercial success.
