Sports medicine vs sport medicine

Why I changed it from 'sport' to 'sports'. I assume that 'Sports' is an American spelling and 'Sport' is UK. More pages had linked to 'sports medicine' (10) vs 'sport medicine' (2).

'Sports' is used in US, Australia, New Zealand, and by FIMS in its English title - The Fédération Internationale de Médecine du Sport (FIMS)/International Federation of Sports Medicine. http://www.fims.org/

'Sport' is used by UK and Canada.

However, there is a British Journal of Sports Medicine (with the 's') http://bjsm.bmjjournals.com/

Another Journal Description - Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine is an international refereed journal published for clinicians with a primary interest in sports medicine practice. http://www.cjsportmed.com

The original article 'Sport Medicine' is from Canada.

Here are some sport medicine organizations (most have 's'):

  • The Fédération Internationale de Médecine du Sport (FIMS)/International Federation of Sports Medicine
  • American Medical Society for Sports Medicine
  • American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine
