The Makati OKBet Kings are a Filipino professional basketball team based in Makati, Metro Manila. The team currently competes in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as one of four active teams based in the Southern Manila District.

The team began play in the 2018–19 season as the Makati Skyscrapers and has since gone under multiple names. The team also competed in Filbasket as the AFP–FSD Makati Cavaliers, and in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3.

Since the 2023 season, the team is owned and sponsored by sports betting platform OKBet.[1]

History

The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League has announced on April 10, 2018, that the government of Makati will enter a team in the league.[2][3] The team was initially known as the Makati Skyscrapers but later changed their name to the Makati Super Crunch in November 2018 after it secured a sponsorship with Cebu-based Prifood Corporation, which owns Super Crunch, a snack brand.[4] It was also during this time that the team owners expressed interest in filing an application to join the Philippine Basketball Association.[5]

The team reached the North Division finals for the Lakan Cup of the 2019–20 season, however the COVID-19 pandemic caused the suspension of the league. The pandemic also caused a financial crisis within Makati Super Crunch, which led to core players leaving the team. The San Juan Knights advanced to the MPBL Finals at Makati's expense.[6]

Prior to the 2023 season, gaming company and MPBL title sponsor OKBet acquired the franchise of the team.[1]

Team identity

The team first went by the Makati Skyscrapers in its inaugural season, alluding to the numerous tall buildings across the city. Mid-season, the team's name was changed to the Makati Super Crunch and has since then taken on the name of its title sponsor.

For most of its time, Makati has used a color scheme that uses black as the primary color. In 2023, blue was made the primary color in its uniforms.
