Vjeran Miladinović, known as Merlinka, was a transgender sex worker and actress best known for the movie Marble Ass directed by Želimir Žilnik.

Merlinka is believed[1] to be the first openly trans person in the Balkans. She was born in Zagreb and spent her childhood partially in an orphanage, partially being homeless and partially living with distant family [2]. After high school, she came to live in Belgrade[3].

Merlinka had the leading[4] role in the 1995 movie Marble Ass directed by Želimir Žilnik.

Merlinka published an autobiography in 2001, named Teresa's son[5]. The title of the book references Merlinka's mother, Tereza Strmečki[6]

Merlinka was murdered during the night of 22nd March 2003, at the age of 43[7], and her body was found a month later. A suspect was arrested for her murder, but was later freed of charges.[8]

In 2009, the International Queer Film Festival Merlinka was founded by the Gay Lesbian Info Centre and Belgrade Youth Center and named after her.
