As to the list of DEVGRU Commanders, we don't need to know who commanded prior to 1993, because the earliest McRaven could have been promoted to O-5, the rank you must hold to command a SEAL Team, would have been 1993. He literally could not have commanded a SEAL Team, not DEVGRU or a conventional Team prior to 1993 and his promotion to O-5. After that we have a sourced list of all of the DEVGRU Commanders to present day. Moved note from reference section

This article includes text from McRaven's official U.S. Navy biography, which is in the public domain. Such text should be footnoted as such but does not appear to be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.49.142.213 (talk) 05:23, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Khataba Raid

McRaven personally apoligized for the Khataba_raid, which may have kept this from becoming a major public relations disaster. ( Martin | talkcontribs 23:55, 8 August 2013 (UTC))[reply]

Retirement and University of Texas Chancellor

Several sources are now pointing to Admiral McRaven being named University of Texas System chancellor on Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Texas Tribune, a non-partisan, non-profit media organization, stated that McRaven is expected to be named Chancellor, according to sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:30A:2EC1:CF70:C8C3:3250:8CD1:3614 (talk) 04:19, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Asked His security clearance be revoked by emperor Trump. As "An honor".

Health Issues

In 2017, William McRaven announced that he is stepping down as Chancellor of The University of Texas System in 2018, at least partially due to chronic health issues and a desire to spend more time with his family. [1] As some are looking at McRaven as a possible presidential candidate in 2020, his health issues should probably be mentioned in the article. Thank you for adding this information, Jerry Stockton .--FeralOink (talk) 09:01, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DEVGRU (ST6) Command

McRaven commanded a squadron within DEVGRU, he was never Commander of the whole unit. He oversaw the Bin Laden raid as Commander of JSOC. He would have overseen that raid if any other unit, such as CAG had been tasked with it. 174.202.41.144 (talk) 02:44, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what the issue here is. The claim that McRaven commanded Development Group was marked 2+ years ago for a citation. None was ever provided, because none exists. None exists because he never commanded Development Group. He was Commander at JSOC, of which Development Group is a part, but that's not the same as being the Commander of Development Group. A "source" was then provided that says that McRaven oversaw Operation Neptune Spear, which was carried out by Development Group. He did. He oversaw it. It was a JSOC Operation. He would have overseen the mission had it been carried out by any other JSOC Unit, like the Army's Combat Applications Group. There's a sourced list on the Development Group page of their Commanders. McRaven doesn't appear on it. The Commander of Development Group during the bin Laden raid was Perry Vanhooser, who in that capacity reported directly to JSOC. During his time with Development Group McRaven was a Squadron Commander. There are (at least) four of those within Development Group, who all report to the actual Commander of Development Group. We cannot simply leave wrong information in, with a source that doesn't say what it purports to say, that had previously been marked for verification for two years. 174.202.47.141 (talk) 22:22, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Whoa, slow down turbo. It's only been like 5 minutes since the last edit. People actually have lives outside of WP. Once you posted your comments, you need to give people time to respond. We understand that you want to help out, but this particular edit is not an emergency. While we wait for any others who may reply, I'll point out some things; When you say "There's a sourced list on the Development Group page of their Commanders. McRaven doesn't appear on it.", that is somewhat disingenuous. First, "the list" isn't sourced, it's the individual entries for each CO on the list that are sourced. Second, the list is incomplete. It only has nine entries, covering a period from 1992 to 2013. McRaven joined DevGru in 1982 when Marcinko (80-83), the unit's first CO was still there. We still need to know (with refs) who the COs were from 1983 to 1992 (and 2013 to present). Maybe you can help with that. Also, while there's a general run-down of some of McRaven's assignments under the "Naval career" section, it could really use some work. It needs more sourcing, and dates for each of the assignments, and of course, any gaps that are there need to be filled in. Perhaps you could help with that also. You seem really knowledgeable about this stuff and are obviously very eager to have it all up-to-date and accurate, so your help would be really appreciated. In the meantime, try to ease up on the reverts. Also, instead of posting from multiple IP addresses, why not create an account? Plenty of reasons to and really no reason not to. Have a nice dsy! - wolf 02:46, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Here are instructions on how to reset your password. Or you can use a different email. Many users here have second emails just for WP, often a web-based one (like gmail or hotmail), as they are quick and easy to create and are anonymous.

As for the list of DEVGRU COs, I had only mentioned it in response to your comments regarding it above. The list is still incomplete, since information about Tier 1 units is difficult to source, but since your last reply, I have since filled out the list, from 1980 to 2013. If you have sourced info on COs from 2013 to "present day", that would be helpful. - wolf 22:43, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
