The AFC club competitions ranking is a ranking system launched by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in 2014.[1] The ranking is based on the results of teams participating in the last four years of the AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup. The ranking is used for determine slot allocation for the AFC member associations in its club competitions.
Calculation principle
The club competitions ranking (former member association ranking, or MA ranking) is used to rank associations and seed teams in the competitions, allocate the number of entries and entry points to the competitions.[2][3] There are, however, many shifts each year with associations not meeting off field requirements.
The ranking until 2021 consisted of the total points of member associations' clubs over the past four years. The leading association's made 100 points in percentage terms. All other associations are adjusted proportionally to the leading team. From the 2022 edition, the ranking used the points over the past eight years, with the former ones have lower multiplier (each year before has its multiplier decrease by 0.1).
Current ranking structure
Club ranking was introduced in 2014 by the AFC.[4] It was an informative ranking and not used to seed clubs in the club competitions.[5] The AFC announced changes in the format for ranking the three new competitions – AFC Champions League Elite, AFC Champions League Two, AFC Challenge League – effective from the 2024–25 season.[6] The structure has taken into account the results from the past 8 years, with a weighting formula.[7]
2021 ranking
This was used for allocating slots in the 2023–24 AFC Champions League and 2023–24 AFC Cup.

Club ranking
A club ranking was introduced in 2014 by the AFC.[14] It was an informative ranking and was not used to seed clubs in the club competitions.[15]
