Garrett played basketball from the age of 6 throughout recreation leagues, school, and AAU tournaments with the dreams of one day playing for college team one day. Due to Covid, Garrett moved to Gaston Christian School for his last 2 years of high school, where he joined the cross-country team and started playing in the praise band his junior year. In his junior year, he was able to help his team win their first ever cross-country state championship. He started playing guitar and singing his junior year. The first change was switching schools. This was done due to the school not allowing him to take a specific college class in place of a high school math class due to the decision of the principal and school board.
