Khaled Nabhan خالد نبهان (also knowns as Abu Diaa أبو ضياء) was a Palestinian grandfather who captured the world's attention after the Israeli military killed his grandchildren Reem and Tariq on November 2023[1]. Nabhan himself was killed by Israeli artillery on Dec. 15, 2024,[2] while trying to help children who had been injured by a previous Israeli airstrike in Nuseirat Camp, Gaza Strip.[3]
Nabhan gained popularity online when a video posted on instagram showed him holding his granddaughter who had recently passed away. He is seen cradling her in his arms and calling her "soul of my soul."[4]
The phrase and Nabhan gained world-wide popularity and Nabhan set up his own Instagram account where he gained a substantial following of 1 million followers. [5][6]
After the death of his grandchildren, he dedicated himself to charitable acts, including comforting others whose relatives have been killed in the genocide[7] and distributing toys to displaced children.[8] Nabhan's videos of him taking care of his elderly mother,[9] [10]playing with children[11] and feeding the cats in the Gaza Strip [12] gained millions of views.
