Phiona Nyamutoro (born 9 December 1993) is a Ugandan politician and legislator representing the Youth in the parliament of Uganda, she is the National female youth Member of parliament in the parliament of Uganda. She is a staunch member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) on whose ticket she got to parliament.[1][2][3][4][5][6] She is also the current Minister of state for Minerals in the Ministry of Energy and Minerals Development, to which she was appointed on 22 March 2024.[7][8][9]

Background and education

Nyamutoro was born in Mbaro Village in Nebbi District.[10] She went to Najjera Progressive School for her primary school education, Pallisa Secondary School for O'level and Bweyogerere Secondary School for A'level.[11][10] Nyamutoro holds a first class Bachelor's degree in Development studies and a Master's degree in Public administration from Makerere university.[11]

Career

Nyamutoro was a vice guild president while at Makerere University 2015 -2016.

She was also a member of the National Youth council representing Nebbi district. Nyamutoro is the first National youth Member of Parliament hailing from Nebbi district.[1][2][12]

Nyamutoro is also a champion of anti pregnancy and Gender issues.[11][13]

In the 11th parliament, she is a member of the committee on education and sports.[14]

She was appointed Minister of State for Minerals in the Ministry of Energy and Minerals Development as part of the cabinet reshuffle by President Museveni[15][16]

Personal life

She got engaged to Eddy Kenzo on Saturday 29th June 2024 at a private traditional ceremony. The couple has a child.[17][18]
