Justin Nozuka is an American-Canadian singer/song writer of Japanese and European American descent. His debut album "Holly" has been released in Europe and Justin has been touring to promote his album. He is signed to indie label Coalition Entertainment Records, which is distributed by Outcaste Records in the UK and Warner in Canada. He has recently graduated from the Etobicoke School of the Arts.
Biography
Justin Nozuka was born in New York to a Japanese-born father and Canadian-born mother, and after his parents divorced at age 8 he and his family moved to Toronto, Canada. He is the sixth of seven children. Justin began writing his own songs at age 12 and the earliest of his songs on Holly, 'Supposed to Grow Old', was written when he was 15. He attended St. Andrews College, an international boarding school in Aurora, ON, where in eighth grade he learned to play guitar from Mexican classmates. He also appeared in two musicals. Justin was influenced by artists such as Lauryn Hill and Marvin Gaye.[1] He was 10 when he first performed to his family, with his sister commenting "Your voice is like Christina Aguilera."[2] He is the brother of Philip an actor who has appeared on Degrassi: The Next Generation, of R'n'B/Pop singer George, who is signed to HC Entertainment, of Christian, a pianist, guitarist and composer, his younger brother Henry who dances, and two sisters.
His debut album Holly was produced by Bill Bell. A Canadian artist from a song writing workshop he attended also introduced him to Universal Records talent scout Alan Reed. He recorded three tracks with Reed as producer, and following this Universal requested to sign Justin to their label, but he decided he wanted to "record an album on my own, with my own freedom"[3]. He has played at the Green room stage at the Irish music festival Oxegen and T in the Park in 2007.
