: You have to put a "<references />" tag where you want them to display. I've done it for you. I assume you can take it from there. --[[User:Breadandcheese|Breadandcheese]] 04:37, 28 July 2007 (UTC) |

Negotiation
The Society would regard its remit as British rather than Scottish, but I have been prevented from making tis change but someone called Mais Oui, who won't even discuss it and deletes my attempts from their 'talk' page! 83.67.68.118
- Would the edit warriors kindly negotiate here. The above was removed apparently in accordance with WP:NPA - I don't believe it violates that, so I've re-instated it as the first point towards some sort of arbitration.
- User:83.67.68.118 - you may wish to register for an account, it makes things rather easier for other editors and even yourself. In the meantime, before reverting - you say the organisation would consider itself to have a British remit: an expansion on this would be rather helpful, with some sourcing if possible. I think it's quite possible that it could constitute a 'British learned society' in preference to an exclusively Scottish one; after all, we don't consider the Edinburgh College of Surgeons or the Royal Society of Edinburgh to have an exclusively civic remit over Edinburgh. --Breadandcheese 04:40, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for this helpful input, I am very happy to come to a concensus. I'm afraid I don't have documents sitting around which can be used as a source, but I am on the Society's Council. Many of RSGS's services are focussed towards Scotland (for example the lecture programme delivered through the regional centres, but speakers often (usually?) come from outside Scotland). However the Society makes a contribution internationally through United Nations groups, through press coverage and international field-trips and expeditions. There are also a good number of members from other parts of the UK and well beyond. If you review the list of award-winners, you will see many (most?) of these have made an international contribution, and in many cases they are not based in Scotland nor could they necessrily be regarded as having made a contribution to Scotland. 83.67.68.118 01:10, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
