Hello Panda is a popular brand of Japanese biscuits (cookies), manufactured by Meiji Seika. Each biscuit consists of a small hollow shortbread layer, filled with either vanilla, strawberry, peanut butter or chocolate filling; chocolate is the most commonly available variety. Recently a yellow-boxed version containing the biscuits with a chocolate shell (instead of the usual shortbread) has hit the shelves.

It was first released in Japan during the Summer of 1979. Printed on the biscuits are cartoon style depictions of giant pandas; presumably this is where the product derives its name. The name could also be an allusion to the famed character Hello Kitty

Hello Panda was originally baked in Japan by Meiji Seika, a company which was founded in 1916 ^[1], but production later began in Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia ^[2]. The Singapore bakery facilities started producing other Meiji products in 1974. The biscuits are exported to most developed countries as well as the United States.

The biscuits are commonly sold in a tall, hexagonal box with 2 oz or 57.5 g. The 2 oz (57.5g) box is often sold for between $0.95 and $0.99 in the United States. In some countries, Hello Panda biscuits are available in small 21 and 35g aluminum pouches, as well as 350g boxes and 450g tins. The biscuits are available in retail stores as well as by mail order. ^[3] ^[4]

Nutritional Information

80 kcal (Calories) per 15g serving (4 biscuits). There are 4 servings per box of this serving size. Each serving provides 2% of the U.S. Recommended Daily Allowance for Iron, 4.5g of fat, of which 2.5g is saturated fat (11% of the U.S. Recommended Daily Value) and 1.5g is Trans Fat. There is no cholesterol in the biscuits. There is 55 mg of sodium, which is equivalent to 2% of the U.S. Recommended Daily Value.
