A board of visitors is the governing body of a university in the United States. In Virginia, for instance, members of a board of visitors are appointed by the Governor of Virginia (subject to confirmation by the Virginia General Assembly for a term of four years. A board of visitors typically approves the university policies and budget and conducts long-term planning.
