I noticed that this has been tagged to be reproduced in a svg format. If anyone wants to help me recreate it in SVG format please email me at andrew_p_ [AT] hotmail.com I have source files for producing the plot in both MATLAB and MAPLE, but encountered errors when I try and produce an SVG file. |

What unit does the Y axis use? Also, I wonder if this couldn't be better represented in a planar graph...
Reply by Hologram0110: The vertical axis is unitless. It is the ratio of cross-sectional area along the cable divided by the cross-sectional area of the cable at the base of the cable. Thus the units would be area/area and so were omitted. As for a planner graph, the cross-section of the cable is given as a function of two variables, the strength/density of the material and the position along the cable. Thus it could be represented as two planner graphs or one 3D graph.
