Vilnius city wall was built in 1503-1522. It was key element of [[Vilnius]] defensive system. It's building was paid by cities landowners. The wall was built from stone and bricks. The wall contained nine gates and artilery bastion. The [[Subačius gate]] was built at the end of todays Šv. Dvasios street. [[Wet gate]] stood near [[Vilnius cathedral square]]. [[Tatar gate]] stood at the corner of Liejyklos and Totorių street. [[Vilija gate]] stood at the corner of Vilnius and Bernardinai street. [[Trakai gate]] was built at the corner of Trakų and Pylimo streets. It was main gate of city and contained (As the [[Gate Of Dawn]]) a chappel. An Artilery bastion was built to prevent eastern side of the city. Nowadays it is museum of [[militaria]] of Vilnius and now is under renovation.

Wet gate stood near Vilnius cathedral square. Tatar gate stood at the corner of Liejyklos and Totorių street. Vilija gate stood at the corner of Vilnius and Bernardinai street. Trakai gate was built at the corner of Trakų and Pylimo streets. It was main gate of city and contained (As the Gate Of Dawn) a chappel. An Artilery bastion was built to prevent eastern side of the city. Nowadays it is museum of militaria of Vilnius and now is under renovation.

After russian occupation most of the wall and all gates, except Gate of Dawn was torn down. Still some parts of it is visible or are going to be restored and shown.
