Character history

Brief character history

Jason Morgan Quartermaine was created by the writers of General Hospital as the biological son of Dr. Alan Quartermaine and Susan Moore.[4] He was later adopted by Alan’s wife Dr. Monica Quartermaine. His birthday is January 22, 1973.[4] He regarded as intelligent, kind, and sensitive but, due to a terrible car accident, caused by his brother AJ, Jason suffered permanent brain damage and amnesia.[4] He changed his name to Jason Morgan, pushed his family away, and gave up a career in medicine to be a mob enforcer for mob boss Sonny Corinthos.[4][5] Jason is best friends with Sonny and Sonny’s ex-wife Carly Corinthos Jacks. Currently he is involved in a relationship with Elizabeth Webber and they have a child Jake Webber.

Birth and early years

Alan and Monica’s marriage was strained in 1981 since she was in love with Rick Webber. Alan had an affair with a woman named Susan Moore,[6] who became pregnant and left Port Charles. She secretly gave birth to a son she named Jason. Alan chased her down and convinced her to return to Port Charles with him. He refused to divorce Monica and marry Susan for fear of losing custody of little AJ but agreed to financially support Jason.[7] Monica later found out about the affair and Jason, filed for divorce, and sued for sole custody of AJ. Alan and Susan eventually broke up and he reunited with Monica.

Susan sued Alan for millions of dollars on behalf of her infant son Jason-- and thanks to her lawyer, Scott Baldwin, won a million dollar trust fund for Jason.[8] Susan became an alcoholic and married Scott. She as unaware that Scott and her cousin, Heather Webber, were lovers and were scheming to get Jason’s trust fund.[8] Alan decided to sue for sole custody of Jason but, Monica did not want his illegitimate son to live in her house and threatened to leave Alan. Susan eventually found out Scott's plan to steal from Jason’s trust fund and planned to have him prosecuted for forgery but murdered by Crane Tolliver.[9]

After Susan’s death, Heather, Susan’s only living relative, took care of Jason since Monica still refused to accept Jason. The Quartermaines gave Heather money to support Jason and allowed them to live in the gatehouse, located in the Quartermain estate. Heather came to love the child and was angry and heartbroken after Alan and Monica decided to file for sole custody of Jason. Heather teamed up with Jimmy Lee Holt to try to gain custody of Jason and his trust fund. Their plan was thwarted after Monica reluctantly allowed Alan to bring Jason to live with them so her enemy, Heather, could not raise him.[10]

Monica later grew to love Jason. She adopted him and raised him as her own son. His childhood was one of wealth and privilege. He grew up away from his family since he and AJ were sent to boarding school[5] in Switzerland for their education.

Teenage and college years

Jason Quartermaine was a straight A student and a star athlete, and planned to study medicine, like his parents. His only interest in ELQ, the family company, was to make sure the company did not harm the community or the environment. He was considered the family favorite and always overshadowed his brother AJ, who jealously, labeled him the “golden boy.” AJ’s jealousy put a strain on their relationship, but Jason still loved and helped his brother when he was in trouble.

In 1991, Jason came home from boarding school (when he should have been nine)[11] and quickly learned to cut his brother AJ a lot of slack. AJ kept reminding Jason that he, AJ, was the legitimate son in the family; yet, Jason always forgave him. He started to attend Port Charles High School and began to work on Dr. Tom Hardy’s new Teen Hotline.[12] He was unaware underclassman Robin Scorpio had a major crush on him. Jason had several teenage flings which included Karen Wexler and Brenda Barrett.[5]

Jason and Karen agreed started to date. They related to each other because they both dealt with alcoholics (Karen’s mother Rhonda[13] and AJ were both alcoholics). Cal kidnapped and tried to rape Karen while Jagger and Jason went to look for food. The two boys caught him and pushed him over a cliff to his apparent death. The three teens decided to keep secret the events and were soon rescued. Joseph blackmailed them for money in exchange for his silence and Jason stole Edward’s rare coins to pay him off. Eventually the truth about the blackmail was came out and it was discovered that Cal was really alive. In the end Cal was arrested after a shootout and Joseph was arrested after he kidnapped and tried to rape Bobbie Jones.[14].

Jason became friends with Brenda Barrett. Brenda comforted Jason after Karen broke up with him and encouraged him to give her the cold shoulder. Jason began to date her and went to the prom with her. They almost made love but stopped before they could. Jason was furious after he found out Brenda had only used him to make Jagger jealous and broke up with her. Brenda felt guilty and apologized for hurting him and Jason forgave her. Jason was able to forgive Jagger and Karen for their betrayal. He gave his support to Karen after Brenda told the Quartermaines that she worked as a stripper for Sonny Corinthos. He helped her beat her drug addiction and get her away from Sonny.

Jason graduated from high school and attended Port Charles University and selected pre-medicine as a major. He also worked at General Hospital part-time and had joined the board of a non-profit foundation called Charles Street. He was happy after Brenda Barrett moved into the Quartermaine Mansion but was angry after she began to date Sonny Corinthos and feared for her safety. He continually warned her that Sonny was bad news. He tried to keep Brenda out of trouble and also tried to stop her from interfering with Ned's plans to marry Katherine Bell. Jason also found a mentor in Doctor Tony Jones.

In 1994, Jason met a woman named Keesha Ward. They started to date and fall in love. AJ was Jason's rival for Keesha’s affections. Jason’s grandfather Edward Quartermaine and Keesha’s grandmother Mary Mae Ward did not approve of their relationship at first but eventually came to accept it. Jason and Keesha faced racism after they went to play tennis at a country club the Quartermaines often went to and learned that it was a restricted club which caused them to leave the club in anger. Jason and Keesha later admitted to being virgins to each other and made love for the first time when they visited Paris during spring break.

Jason was a big pillar of support to Stone Cates and Robin Scorpio after Stone was diagnosed with AIDS and helped them however he could.

Jason had to deal with many issues. He was uncomfortable with his knowledge about how dysfunctional his family could be and their favoritism of him and always had to play peacemaker during their fights. It bothered him that his father Alan loved him more than AJ and never denied it and the two were often at odds with each other. His mother Monica was diagnosed with breast cancer and his parents adopted Emily Bowen. Jason also grieved for the death of his friend, Stone Cates, from AIDS and was stunned after his friend Robin Scorpio was diagnosed with HIV. He was determined to save his brother AJ from alcohol, and it was this determination that would change his life forever.

The accident

In December 1995 Jason got into a car with AJ in an attempt to prevent him from driving drunk. AJ drove the car into a tree and Jason was ejected from the car and hit his head on a large boulder. Ned Ashton came upon the scene of the accident and decided to claim that he had been the one driving the car instead of AJ in order to prevent the family from knowing that AJ had been driving drunk again. Jason was rushed to General Hospital and survived surgery, but had neurological damage. When he woke up from his coma, the first thing he saw was Robin Scorpio. Jason had permanent brain damage and memory loss and lost all memory of anything before the accident, including who he was.

Becoming Jason Morgan

Jason had permanent brain damage and memory loss and could not remember his life before the accident. After the accident, Jason was angry when everyone who knew him tried to mold him into the person he used to be. He could not stand the way people looked at him as if they hoped to see some glint of recognition in his eyes. Jason hated General Hospital and he hated the Quartermaine Mansion even more. Ned Ashton convinced the Quartermaines to put one percent of ELQ stock into a trust fund for Jason so he would be able to live on his own.

Jason finally left the Quartermaine Mansion, pushed his family, friends, and Keesha away, and changed his name to Jason Morgan in honor of his grandmother Lila Morgan Quartermaine. The birthday he would declare as his own was not the day he was born but the day of the accident. Jason remained close to his grandmother Lila and his sister Emily and was able to tolerate Ned because of Robin’s influence. Sonny and Jason became friends and Jason started to work for him as an errand boy. Sonny’s wife Lily had a calming effect on Jason. Jason became Sonny’s mob enforcer and discovered that he was quite good at his job. He converted to Roman Catholicism to be a Roman Catholic because Sonny was a practitioner of that faith even though Jason Quartermaine had been raised Episcopalian.

Robin

In 1996, Jason met with Robin Scorpio again one night when Jason ran from the Quartermaines and saw her crying under a bridge. She was the first one who was able to accept him for who he was instead of Jason Quartermaine and the two began to develop a close friendship that later turned into love. She always tried to get him to open up to the Quartermaines and told him not to shut them out of his life completely.

Jason thought Robin would never want their relationship to develop further than what it was because she still mourned over the loss of Stone Cates. He began to have a no-name, no strings attached, sexual relationship with Carly Roberts. Jason and Robin began to date and started to fall in love. Jason told Robin about what happened with Carly and made a vow to Robin never to be with Carly again the night before she left for Yale University. The next day Jason took her on his motorcycle, dropped her off at Yale, and told her he loved her. As he rode off, a stunned Robin looked on and whispered the same confession.

Jason and Robin were in love and had become a couple. The two had to maintain a long distance relationship because Robin had to attend college at Yale. Jason did a lot of extensive research on HIV and AIDS and talked to his father Alan in order to find out about new medical treatments for Robin and a way for them to safely have sex. Alan learned about the protocol and told Jason about it. Jason talked to Robin and tried to convince her to go on it and, although reluctant at first, finally agreed to do so. Jason and Robin had to be very careful when they consummated their love because of Robin's HIV-positive status and always used protection.

In 1997, Jason became enemies with Dr. Pierce Dorman. Both disliked each other and Jason was fond of beating him up. Jason began to stalk him and Pierce finally filed a restraining order against Jason. Jason supported his mother Monica after Pierce sued her for sexual harassment and sometimes went to watch the trial proceedings. He also helped Sonny find out who was Brenda's stalker, rescue Brenda after Harry kidnapped her, and help her beat her drug addiction. He was shocked after he saw AJ announce he was the one who was driving in his car accident on national television. Jason had to rely on his old medical skills to perform CPR after Emily overdosed on drugs and had tried to jump off the Quartermaine roof in an attempt to fly while she was high on drugs.

Jason and Sonny began to look into drugs being brought into Port Charles. They found out that Pierce had connections in South America. Monica found out Pierce was behind Emily’s addiction to drugs and kidnapped him. Jason stopped her from killing Pierce and saved his mother from a possible jail sentence by cleaning the hotel room and helping Mac Scorpio arrest him. Jason was later arrested for the murder of Pierce Dorman but was later released. He helped Sonny break Brenda out of jail after she was framed and arrested for the murder of Pierce Dorman and got them on the run.

Jason and Robin’s romance came to an end in the summer of 1997. Robin came home for the summer and she and Jason decided to have dinner and spend the night alone at her Uncle Mac’s house. Jason was shot by the Tin Man as the two danced in the living room. Jason was taken to the hospital and Robin watched as he was taken into surgery. Jason survived but Robin was afraid for him and asked Sonny to fire him so he would be safe. Sonny reluctantly agreed and fired Jason. Jason found out what she had done and angrily confronted Robin. Robin told him he either had to quit working for Sonny or she would leave to attend school in Paris and their relationship would be over. The two realized they could not give each other what they needed and broke up. Jason and Robin shared a bittersweet good-bye and Robin left for Paris.

Jason went back to work for Sonny and Robin left Port Charles to go attend school in Paris. Sonny and Brenda planned to get married but Sonny decided to leave Brenda at the altar in order to protect her, left town, and gave Jason the business to run in his absence. Brenda came to despise Jason and blamed him for Robin’s heartbreak and Sonny’s betrayal.

He went to Paris to see Robin and the two got back together for a few days. But, when Robin asked him to leave the business again he refused and the two ended things once again. The business put many people in danger just by being near Jason. He saved Nikolas Cassadine’s life after he was severely injured in a shootout at Luke’s by performing an emergency tracheotomy so he could breathe more easily. This caused him to rethink any plans of trying again with Robin.

Carly and Michael

Shortly afterwards, Carly showed up at his penthouse and asked him to be the father of her unborn baby because she did not know if her child’s real father was Tony Jones or AJ and until she could figure out what to do. He agreed but told her if someone asked him directly if he was the biological father he would say no. However no one ever did. Jason supported Carly and let her live with him in his penthouse. Carly gave birth to a baby boy in late December. Tests ruled Tony out as the father and AJ believed that since the baby’s blood matched Jason’s instead of his, Jason was his father. The baby was born with a heart condition and required immediate surgery and Jason had to sign for it. Carly developed postpartum depression and left town. Jason took the infant into his care.

Robin returned to Port Charles in the beginning of 1998 in order to help Jasper Jacks take care of Brenda who had a nervous breakdown. Jason and Brenda hated and had a contentious relationship. Brenda wanted to hurt Jason so she attempted to seduce him in order to make Robin think he was a scumbag. When that plan failed, she told Robin about Carly and Michael. Robin tried to get Jason to tell AJ the truth but he refused to do so until Carly returned to town.

Edward, Alan, AJ, and Tony tried to kidnap the baby and take him from Jason after he brought him to the Quartermaine Mansion for Emily’s birthday. Their plan failed miserably. The Quartermaines lost both Jason and the baby for good. Jason’s cousin Justus Ward became disgusted with the Quartermaines and ELQ life and started to work for Jason as his lawyer. Jason had the baby baptized and named him Michael in honor of Sonny. He made Mike Corbin Michael's godfather and his sister Emily his godmother. Carly returned to town in time to witness her son’s baptism and Jason and her decided to live together in order to raise Michael. Shortly after, Tony kidnapped Michael and Robin and held them hostage in his cabin. Jason rescued them and broke Tony’s hand in the process.

Tony was arrested, put on trial, and found not guilty. The judge ordered him to take a temporary leave of absence from the hospital, seek medical mental attention, and serve a year of community service. Jason was angry at the judge’s decision, but an enraged Carly shot him in open court. She was arrested and was sent to Ferncliff, a mental hospital, to seek mental help after she pretended to be insane so she would not have to be put on trial and go to prison.

Jason nearly died in a plane crash and was stranded in the woods with Brenda. The two had to put aside their differences and cooperate in order to survive. Jason found them food and shelter and carried Brenda around after she hurt her hip. Jax and his brother Jerry later rescued them and the two agreed to be civil towards each other from then on.

Shortly after Jason’s rescue, Jason and Robin reunited and made love for the first time because Robin realized she was able to accept Jason for who he was and what he did for a living. Robin started to attend classes at Port Charles University, moved in with Jason, and helped him raise Michael. Jason decided to leave the business for Robin and Michael after she was nearly killed in a car bomb explosion. Jason became a mechanic and started a motorcycle shop with Mike Corbin. Jason and Robin moved into Brenda’s old cottage with Michael. Jason got Carly released from Ferncliff and she moved in with them. Carly and Robin hated each other and could not get along. Carly wanted Jason for herself and managed to put a strain in their relationship.

Things became tense between Jason and Robin and Robin’s uncle, Mac Scorpio, was shot in the Outback restaurant. Carly urged Jason to return to the mob but he was reluctant to do so and refused. Jason and Robin moved back into Sonny’s old penthouse for their own protection and decided to share joint custody of Michael with Carly. Carly became more and more of a wedge in Jason and Robin’s relationship.

Sonny returned to Port Charles and took control of his mob organization once again. Jason returned to work for him as his mob enforcer. The two decided to import coffee. Robin tried to get him to talk to Jason and make him see that Carly was lying and manipulating him. Jason could not stand being away from Michael and Robin was shocked when he decided to move in with Carly to raise Michael. Robin and Jason then broke up shortly thereafter in 1999 and Robin went back to Paris. Before she left she told AJ he was Michael’s father thinking this would protect Jason from future pain at Carly’s hands. They said their final good-byes on their bridge and parted on bad terms.

Jason then had to battle with AJ for custody of Michael and assured Carly that he would never allow Edward and AJ to take Michael from them. Jason and Carly planned to leave town and go on the run with Michael to keep him from the Quartemaines. After Jason left with Michael, Carly changed her mind and went to the Quartermaines and told them Jason had kidnapped Michael. Carly planned to drive AJ to drink thereby securing a future with Jason and a financial settlement from AJ. Jason was not arrested because he was Michael's legal father at the time. Jason hired Alexis Davis to represent him in Michael’s custody hearing. He temporarily lost custody of Michael and was not allowed visitation.

Sonny and Jason had to deal with Jerry Jacks who had come to Port Charles to destroy Sonny and Jason. He set fire to one of their warehouses. Luke Spencer blamed Sonny and Jason for the fire that allegedly killed his son Lucky in Jason's motorcycle shop. Jason and Lucky were friends and Jason had given Lucky a job and let him live at the shop. This destroyed Luke's friendship with them.

AJ and Carly got married and in May a custody hearing was set to determine permanent custody of Michael. The judge surprised everyone and awarded joint custody of Michael to Jason and AJ and Carly. Jason tried to get out of the mob again for Michael in order to keep his part of the custody agreement. But, Jason feared his anger and resentment towards AJ would confuse Michael and in July gave up all his rights to Michael which hurt Carly.

Jason and Carly teamed up and learned in October that Sonny’s new love Hannah Scott was an FBI agent who wanted to bust Sonny. Jason told Sonny the truth and then helped Sonny recover from his mental breakdown in November. Over the course of time, Jason fell in love with Carly and although he told Sonny, he hadn't yet told Carly. In December Carly saw Jason and Elizabeth dancing together at Kelly’s and became jealous. She went to see Sonny to ask him what was going on. Rather than telling Carly that he knew Jason was in love with her, Sonny led Carly to believe that Jason was instead involved with Elizabeth. Carly believed Sonny. She then slept with him. Jason was shot and found out that Carly had slept with Sonny when he arrived, wounded, at Sonny's penthouse. Devastated by their apparent betrayal, Jason left and wandered around until he collapsed near his old abandoned boxcar. Carly hated Elizabeth what she saw as Elizabeth's manipulative behavior with Jason and for being the impetus for her one-night stand with Sonny. Jason saved Elizabeth’s life after a bomb was placed in her art studio. He tried to end their friendship after Sorel started to threaten her.

Jason was unable to deal with Sonny and Carly’s betrayal and felt the people he cared about would be safer if he was not around. He also could not stand Carly’s crazy attempts to get back into his affections. He gave Sonny power of attorney over all his accounts and control over his assets which had been put in a trust fund for Michael. He left town on January 17, 2000.

Although Jason was angry at Carly for her betrayal and did not return to Port Charles, he did come to her rescue once again. Jason tracked down the arsonist who had burned down Sonny’s and his coffee warehouse and forced him tell who it was who had hired him. The arsonist revealed that it was AJ. Jason phoned Sonny and told him. Sonny used this information to force AJ to give Carly a divorce and relinquish all rights to Michael.

Jason visits home

In August 2000, Jason returned to Port Charles to find his sister Emily after she was kidnapped and held hostage by Zander Smith. He tracked them down to the Canadian border. He was about to turn Zander over to the cops but was shocked when Emily asked him to let him go. Jason did as his sister asked and took her to the Quartermaine's home. He then offered to take Carly and Michael out of the country so Carly would not have to testify against Sonny. Sonny and Carly refused his offer and were married with Jason as a witness. Jason finally accepted their relationship and gave them his blessing. He then left town once again.

In January 2001, he returned to help Sonny bring down a mob boss named Sorel. Elizabeth Webber hid him in her art studio during his first days back in Port Charles. She confided in him about her problems and their friendship grew closer. Lucky was jealous of Jason and believed he was romantically interested in Elizabeth. Lucky attacked Jason with a knife and tried to kill him and Jason was forced to defend himself. Lucky denied what he had done and Elizabeth believed him but later found out the truth and apologized to Jason. Jason realized he had very strong feelings for Elizabeth and that she did as well. Jason asked Elizabeth to leave town with him but she refused and chose to stay with Lucky. Jason helped defuse a bomb sent to Sonny’s penthouse and then he left town and went back to Puerto Rico to handle more of Sonny's business problems and hide from Sorel.

Jason's Return

Jason returned about a year later as Sorel was long dead and returned to work with Sonny. He warned AJ to stay away from Carly and Michael. Sonny ordered him to find out what had happened to Carly during her car accident and the time she was missing. Jason discovered that Carly had faked the whole car accident in order to punish Sonny for sleeping with Alexis Davis. He confronted Carly and told her to tell Sonny or he would tell him the truth himself.

Zander Smith, who lashed out when he learned that Sonny and Carly reunited, revealed some of Sonny’s secrets to a rival mobster. Sonny instructed Jason to teach Zander a lesson. Zander then landed up in the hospital from a severe beating. Elizabeth found him and brought him to General Hospital.

Lucky and Elizabeth broke up and went their separate ways shortly after Jason returned to town. Jason began to date Elizabeth and started to protect Sonny’s half-sister Courtney Matthews on Sonny’s orders. Courtney was married to AJ and working as a stripper to pay back for damage AJ had done to the club Oasis. Courtney did not like Jason at first because she despised all parts of the mob but they later became friends. After both Elizabeth and Zander Smith were kidnapped and held hostage in a crypt, Jason rescued them. Jason was hurt when he saw that Zander and Elizabeth had had a one-night stand. He became determined to push Elizabeth away after she was shot when he and Zander fought for a gun. Jason comforted Courtney after AJ found out she was stripping. He saved AJ’s life after he nearly burned to death in the Oasis and paid Coleman off to keep quiet about AJ burning down his club so his brother would not go to prison. He did this for Courtney’s sake. Zander and Elizabeth moved into Jason’s penthouse for safety reasons and Elizabeth told Jason she was sorry for hurting him. Jason and Elizabeth admitted they wanted to be together and shared a hug.

Brenda comes back

Shortly afterwards, Sonny was shot and supposedly killed by Roy DiLuca on Luis Alcazar's orders outside of St. Timothy’s church. Jason arrived and was shocked to discover Brenda Barrett was still alive (she was presumed dead). He took Brenda to one of Sonny’s safe houses on Sonny’s orders in order to keep her safe from Luis Alcazar. Jason kept her under heavy guard but Brenda managed to escape. It was later revealed to everyone that Brenda was still alive. Sick of Jason’s secrets and dangerous work, Elizabeth broke up with him and moved out. Soon afterwards Courtney found herself being stalked and Jason promised to protect her.

Brenda asked Jason to marry her because she had a rare brain disease that would make her go insane and kill her. She wanted him to be the one to take care of her and put her in a mental hospital when the time came. She threatened to destroy Sonny and Carly’s marriage and ruin Michael’s life if he would not do it. Jason agreed to marry her so he could keep her away from Sonny and Jax. The two flew to Las Vegas and got married. Brenda moved into Jason’s penthouse. The Quartermaines were thrilled about Jason and Brenda’s marriage and made her promise to try to get Jason to come back to the family. Jason stood by Brenda during Luis Alcazar’s trial and both were shocked when he got off on all charges.

Jason and Courtney

Jason and Courtney began to work closely to uncover the stalker. When the stalker attacked Courtney, she used the gun Jason gave her and shot him. She pulled off his mask and her stalker was revealed to be Coleman. Coleman did have feelings for Courtney, but he was not the stalker. He had been paid by AJ to scare Courtney so Courtney would turn to him, after seeing Courtney and Jason kiss in the rain. AJ was furious when Courtney turned towards to Jason instead of him.

Luis Alcazar later kidnapped Brenda and he tried to take her to Venezuela. There was a plane crash and they, along with Sonny, disappeared. Jason and Carly traveled to South America to search for them. They were arrested and sentenced to be executed but they escaped and rescued Sonny, Brenda, and Alcazar from a deserted island. A mysterious man named Ric Lansing followed them back to Port Charles and offered his legal services to Sonny since he was without an attorney.

Jason and Brenda planned to leave for Switzerland to put Brenda in a mental hospital because her condition worsened. But, they found out from Jax that Luis Alcazar had faked her illness. They planned to annul their marriage and Brenda reunited with Jax. Around the same time Courtney found out AJ was the stalker. She was so outraged that she filed for divorce. Courtney turned to Jason and they became lovers. They bought a place where they could be together and keep their relationship a secret for fear of Sonny’s disapproval.

Ric tried to impress Sonny several times and stepped in to get frivolous charges against Sonny and Jason dropped. Sonny and Jason did not trust Ric because they did not know who he was and why he was so eager to get into Sonny’s business. Carly befriended him though and gave him a few pointers on how to impress Sonny.

When Luis Alcazar was murdered, both Jason and Brenda were suspects. The two decided to cancel their annulment so they would not have to testify against each other. AJ, Skye, and Coleman teamed up to frame Jason and Brenda for the murder of Luis Alcazar. Jason and Brenda were accused of Alcazar's murder but were later acquitted. They divorced soon after; they remained friends. Although invited to Brenda's wedding, he declined the invitation. Still, he came to see her prior to the wedding to wish her well. He was the one that took Brenda to the airport after Jax left her at the altar.

Sonny was furious after he found out that Jason and Courtney were romantically involved. He did not want Courtney with Jason because believed that being involved with Jason was a sure sign of constant danger. Sonny demanded that Jason and Courtney end their relationship, but they refused. Sonny ended his long-time friendship with Jason and fired him.

Jason believed that Ric and Faith had teamed up in an effort to destroy him and Sonny. He and Courtney pretended to break up in front of Ric and Faith at Kelly’s. He faked a partnership with Faith to find out who her silent partner was but, before she could tell him, Ric shot her. Faith was scared Ric would finish her off and told Jason she did not have a secret partner. Not much later Sonny changed his mind and rehired Jason as was now apparent that Ric and Faith were serious threats that had to be dealt with. Although he constantly warned Elizabeth Ric was bad news, she began a relationship with Ric. Sonny had Jason kidnap and question Faith. Ric then kidnapped Courtney and threw her in a mine shaft and left her to die so he could use her as leverage and escape but Jason rescued her. When Jason tried to kill Ric, Sonny stopped him and told him that Ric was actually his brother.

After Sonny and Jason let Faith go, Ric and Faith planned to frame Jason for Fowler’s murder. Courtney saw them and overheard their plans. Faith ran her down with a car in order to shut her up but Jason and Carly found her and took her to the hospital. Ric blackmailed Courtney into agreeing to marry him or he would turn the evidence against Jason into the police. Jason and Courtney fortunately foiled his plot. Soon after they were finally able to move on with their lives, Carly wanted Jason and Courtney to get married. Jason and Courtney became engaged and Sonny gave their engagement his blessing.

Sonny and Jason worked to end the recent circulation of drugs in their territory and held the drugs hostage in order to get information on the supplier. Shortly afterwards Carly received a picture of a beaten and bloodied Sonny. It turned out Sonny had been kidnapped and held hostage by Lorenzo Alcazar who wanted his drugs back. Jason traded the drugs for Sonny. He then tried to negotiate a deal with Sonny and Jason, but they refused.

On the night Jason and Courtney were to get married, Ric drugged Elizabeth, then his wife, and kidnapped Carly. He held her hostage in a panic room in his house, chained to a wall. He revealed he planned to take her unborn baby once it was born and give it to Elizabeth to raise. Michael, who witnessed Carly being kidnapped, had been traumatized. Sonny and Jason were eventually able to get him to disclose it was Ric.

Soon afterwards, Courtney found out she was pregnant but kept the news about their unborn baby from Jason to tell him at a better time and keep him focused on getting Carly back home. Sonny and Jason went to South America with Ric to rescue Carly from Lorenzo Alcazar, who had kidnapped her from Ric by then. Courtney found out where Carly was and went after them to tell them herself when she couldn't reach Sonny or Jason. Sonny and Jason were able to rescue Carly, but Courtney was kidnapped by Lorenzo Alcazar. He planned to exchange Courtney for Carly and use her to get Sonny and Jason to let him use their docks to run his drugs through their territory. Jason rescued her after discovering her in a clinic in Venezuela. After toiling with her decision, Courtney confessed to Jason that she had been pregnant but had lost the baby when she jumped into freezing water trying to escape. Jason devastated by this loss and devastated by Emily's cancer, was unable to offer Courtney comfort. After being beaten up by Alcazar's men, Courtney was prescribed pain pills, and became addicted to them. She allegedly hit Elizabeth while driving under the influence of the pills, although this has never been confirmed. Jason convinced Courtney not to confess.

Jason agreed to protect Nikolas and Emily from Nikolas’ creditors and soon discovered that his creditor was Lorenzo Alcazar. Jason lent Nikolas money to make all of Lorenzo Alcazar’s payments. To get away from the craziness of Port Charles, Jason whisked Courtney away on a romantic getaway to France. He proposed again, and suggested that they marry right there and then. Jason and Courtney got married with Sonny and Carly as their witnesses.

Lorenzo Alcazar and Faith Rosco teamed up in an effort to break up Sonny and Carly. They hired a prostitute named Marcella Montoya who had plastic surgery to look like Sonny’s dead wife Lily. Jason, Carly, and Courtney all believed that Lily was in Sonny’s mind until Jason saw her. He convinced Sonny she was an imposter and the two uncovered Lorenzo and Faith’s plans.

When Carly fell into a coma after she was accidentally shot by Sonny while giving birth, Jason took care of the business and Courtney took care of the kids. She left town with Michael and Morgan and befriended a sheriff named Brian Beck. Her relationship with Jason became strained after her tolerance of his violent life began to erode and they separated after Sonny’s attempt to kill Lorenzo Alcazar. Jason was arrested for aiding and abetting but all charges were dropped. He tracked down his cousin Justus Ward, found him in a monastery, and hired him to defend Sonny. Jason and Courtney prevented Sonny and Carly from losing their children and reunited Michael and Morgan with their parents after social services tried to take them into their custody when Sonny and Carly went on the run. Jason tried to keep Carly away from Lorenzo and protect Nikolas and Emily from Faith and Zander. Courtney began to "date" Brian.

Jason kidnapped Lorenzo Alcazar and put him in the panic room to keep him away from Carly since her brain injury caused her to have romantic feelings towards him and she seemed like she could not control them. Carly committed herself to Shadybrook, a mental institution. Faith Rosco found out about Carly’s decision, paid the doctors to keep her drugged, and tried to push her toward Lorenzo. Jason attempted to rescue her even though he was fed up with her but Carly attacked him with a syringe full of a hallucinogenic sedative and Faith tried to rape him. Jason wandered off and found his way back to the apartment he and Courtney had shared. She found him and he kissed but later did not remember doing so. Lorenzo rescued Carly from Shadybrook and left Faith in a straight jacket at Carly’s room. Jason found her and had her institutionalized to Ferncliff for the criminally insane under a fake name.

Faith ordered Zander to start a shootout with Sonny and Jason’s men and kill Jason. Courtney saw the police ambush Jason and his men on the docks as they unloaded a coffee shipment and got into a shootout with Zander and Faith’s men. Courtney shot Brian to save Jason’s life after he aimed his gun at Jason. Jason and Courtney let Zander take the fall for her crime after Brian named him as the shooter and the two decided to never tell the truth. Eventually, Zander was gunned down by officers who believed him guilty of Beck's murder.

Port Charles Hotel fire

Jason went to the Port Charles Hotel to kill Brian on Sonny’s orders but he never did it because a fire started in the hotel and he and Brian teamed up to save two children’s lives and get them to safety, as well as others. Jason also found Carly during the hotel fire and they tried to find their way out of the burning building. After Jason got Carly to safety, Ric had him arrested for the attempted murder of Brian Beck after the cop was shot and named Jason as his shooter and refused to let Jason claim his seat on the helicopter but allowed Jason to give his ticket to Courtney and for her to take his place. A crooked cop named Andy Capelli handcuffed Jason to a stair railing and left him there to die in the fire but Nikolas found him and saved his life.

Jason goaded Capelli into a standoff in the woods and got him to confess to shooting Brian in an effort to frame Jason. Andy tried to kill Jason but Jason shot and killed him. Ric saw and heard the whole thing on a cell phone and refused to arrest Jason and file charges against him because he ruled the death as self-defense.

Jason and Courtney both testified in favor of joint custody. Lorenzo Alcazar hired someone to put a bomb. This caused SOnny to give full custody of the children to Carly. Sonny ordered Jason to find the person responsible for the explosion and protect Sam from the person who tried to stab and kill her.

Jason felt betrayed after Courtney sold her interests to the waterfront to Lorenzo Alcazar but still hoped to reunite with her. He tried to help her after Faith began to threaten her but she refused to accept his help. In a desperate yet mistaken attempt to save Jason from prison, Courtney chose to knock Jason out in order to save Lorenzo’s life when Jason tried to kill him. She called the cops on Sonny. Although they briefly bonded over Michael as he recovered from a fall into a well, they ultimately finalized their divorce. For a long time to come, the two continued to admit they still loved each other. On the anniversary of their baby's death, Jason comforted a grief-stricken Courtney, and both reminisced about "what could have been." Jason and Courtney eventually they grew apart.

Jason and Sam

Jason and Sam had met in the interrogation room at the PCPD after the two of them had been arrested for aiding and abetting Sonny Corinthos in December 2003. Sam refused to testify agasint Sonny and Jason was grateful and promised to cover her legal expenses.

When Sonny and Sam started their affair, Jason offered to pay Sam a million dollars to break up with Sonny and leave town. Sam was insulted by the offer and angrily refused. Sam had witnessed Lorenzo put a bomb in Sonny's limo. He stabbed her in order to keep her quiet. Sonny ordered Jason to find the bomber and protect Sam. They fought a lot since Sam felt Jason disapproved of her and Jason wanted Sonny to reconcile with Carly for the benefit of the kids. Jason saved Sam’s life after the bomber tried to kill her on her boat. They eventually found out Lorenzo Alcazar had been the one to hire the bomber.

After Sonny and Carly reconciled, Jason found out through Emily that Sam McCall was pregnant. Jason offered to marry Sam and pretend to be the father of her baby in order to protect Sonny and Carly’s marriage. Sam reluctantly agreed but changed her mind at the altar and ran off to a convent to have her baby and give it up for adoption. Sonny found out and sent Jason after her. Jason found Sam and brought her back to Port Charles. Faith hired a man named Nico to work for her who turned out to be Sam’s ex-boyfriend. He shot Sonny at a covent in Costa Rica and stalked Sonny, Jason and Sam. He kidnapped Sam and Jason rescued her, killing Nico in the process.

Jason found out that Sam, in the past, had been found guilty of arson and the murder of her mother. It turned out she had only covered up for her mentally retarded brother, Danny, who had started the fire by accident. Jason hid Sam and took Danny out of the country in order to protect him. He paid a death row inmate to confess to the crime and got the charges against Sam dropped. Jason sent Danny to a special school in Hawaii so he would be cared for. Eventually Sonny told Carly that he was the father of Sam's baby.

Lila Morgan Quartermaine died in the summer of 2004. Jason and Sam decided to name the baby Lila in honor of his grandmother. Jason and Robin saw each other for the first time in years at Lila’s funeral. The two talked about their lives and Jason thanked her for showing him how important family is.

Jason and Sam became friends. He offered to take care of Sam and her baby. Sonny seemed to be okay with Sam moving in with Jason but he still wanted to be a part of his child’s life. Sam’s baby was stillborn due to a ruptured placenta. Jason helped her cope with the loss and helped her make the choice of donating her child's stem cells to save Kristina’s, who had leukemia.

Jason and Sam realized they had feelings for each other but Jason did not want to start a relationship with her for fear of her safety. Jason and Sam reconnected after Sam helped a young woman named Bridget give birth to her baby, Hope. Jason and Sam became engaged and planned to adopt their foster daughter Hope. The birth mother reclaimed her child and this put a strain in Sam and Jason's relationship because he agreed that Bridget should take her child. Jason and Sam slowly worked through these problems. Sam broke into Sonny's house, stole $100,000, and tried to buy a baby of the black market. Her plan failed and Sam was arrested for kidnapping Kristina.

After Sam was arrested for the kidnapping of Michael, Morgan, and Kristina, Jason helped her escape and was shot by Agent Reese Marshall in the process. The two teamed up in order to clear Sam’s name and find the missing children. They discovered that the kidnapper was Faith Rosco and tracked her down to Louisiana. During a shootout Jason shot Faith. Kristina and Morgan were rescued but everyone was made to believe Faith had killed Michael. Jason refused to believe it and investigated further. he and Sam tracked Faith's accomplice to the Bahamas and discovered that AJ was alive and had framed Courtney for his death, hired Faith to kidnap the children and make everyone believe Michael was dead, and brainwashed Michael. AJ returned to Port Charles to get help and tried to kill Jason. The two fought, went over a railing, and AJ broke his back. Later AJ was killed while at the hospital and everyone believed Michael had done it. Carly was a suspect but Sonny confessed to the crime. Sonny was put on trial but was found not guilty after Ric spoke up on his behalf.

Jason and Sam convinced Sonny and Carly to get Michael a shrink. They chose a man named Doctor Asher Thomas who had treated Jason after his accident. Jason was suspicious of him. Later John Durant stole a tape with Doctor Thomas saying Michael killed AJ on it from his office and planned to arrest Michael. Jason and Sam went on the run with Michael but came back after they found out about Michael’s imaginary friend Jody. Jason took an experimental drug and remembered that AJ paid Doctor Thomas to kill him while he was in a coma in 1995. He realized Doctor Thomas killed AJ and blamed it on Michael. Doctor Thomas tried to kill Jason and when he kidnapped Sam he injected her with a deadly substance. He kidnapped Alan and Monica and held Monica at knifepoint. Jason showed up and Doctor Thomas tried to convince him that Alan tried to kill him all those years ago. He turned his gun on Alan as if to kill him but quickly shot and killed Doctor Thomas. Jason was arrested but Ric quickly managed to get the charges dropped against him and he was released.

Jason and Sam went on a romantic vacation on Sonny's yacht but were kidnapped by phony police. They were taken to an island. A woman named Allegra had Jason and her daughter Alicia held captive in the basement of her house and wanted Sam’s help. She needed Sam to impersonate her daughter, marry her rich fiancé named Andrew in order to have the rich lifestyle she was accustomed to and her daughter would be financially well of after her death. Sam reluctantly agreed to her plan in order to save Jason and herself and married Andrew. Jason and Sam eventually escaped after Andrew was killed but Allegra kidnapped them again and Sam was arrested as Alicia for Andrew’s murder. Allegra helped Jason break Sam out of jail, get the real Alicia arrested, and got them off of the island.

In the fall of 2005, Jason began to suffer from life threatening headaches, seizures and amnesia. He quit working for Sonny and He got a job on the docks. He quickly fell back in love with Sam. Jason’s condition was fatal, but he refused treatment. During this time, Manny Ruiz became a serious threat. He tried to kill Jason, stalked Sam, and repeatedly tried to kidnap and rape Sam.

Sam, determined to save Jason’s life, learned that Robin Scorpio, now a doctor, had developed an experimental treatment for the disorder Jason had. She contacted Robin and begged her to return to Port Charles. Sam and Robin met in New York and Robin agreed to help Jason. They were both on a train on their way back to Port Charles when Manny Ruiz caused a train collision and both became trapped. Jason suffered from another seizure but escaped the hospital in order to save the people he loved. He found Robin in the rumble and remembered her. After Sonny and the others were rescued, Jason stayed behind in the tunnel to find Carly, defuse the bombs Manny had set to explode. He was believed to be dead. Jason eventually found an escape tunnel.

Jason proposed to Sam again in November 2005. He agreed to allow Robin to become his doctor and Robin treated Jason with her experimental drug treatment. He started to have flashbacks and Robin was the first one he got back. In a heated moment Jason grabbed Robin and kissed her in his sleep as he was calling out her name. Robin’s treatment managed to help Jason regain his memory but did not cure his disorder. Robin tracked down renowned surgeon Patrick Drake and got him to operate on Jason. Manny Ruiz turned off the power at General Hospital during Jason’s surgery and entered the operation room to try to kill Jason. He also kidnapped Carly and nearly slit her throat. Jason’s surgery was successful and Jason credited Sam for having saved his life.

Shortly after, Jason stopped Sam from killing Manny Ruiz while he was being prepped for surgery. Manny was arrested and put on trial. Manny Ruiz, with Alexis Davis as his lawyer, claimed a brain tumor was the cause of his violent actions. Alexis earned the animosity from Jason and Sam as she was successful in getting Manny a lenient sentence. He had to perform community service at General Hospital.

In February 2006, the encephalitis virus invaded Port Charles. Sam became deathly sick. Jason and Carly teamed up to investigate the illness. They rescued a kidnapped Lucky and found the antidote in the fictional Maarkam Islands. They returned to Port Charles with the antidote. Unfortunately, they were not in time to save Courtney Matthews or Sam’s brother Danny McCall. Danny told Sam before he died that their parents had picked her especially for him. Suspicious of this statement, Sam had a DNA test which confirmed that Danny and Sam were not biologically related. Sam was convinced she was adopted and Jason helped her investigate the truth about her past. Jason and Sam were stunned to learn that Alexis Davis was Sam’s biological mother. Jason remained supportive of Sam, but both of them decided it would be best for them to keep Alexis in the dark.

Jason was angry at Sonny for starting a relationship with his sister Emily. The two tried to hide their relationship but Jason later learned the truth. Jason took control of the “business” refused to give it back to Sonny until he broke up with Emily. Sonny tried to frame Jason for Escobar’s murder and ordered a hit on Jason but later called it off. Jason later realized he had no right to control Emily’s life and gave the business back to Sonny.

In May 2006, Sam was shot by Manny Ruiz while in Jason’s arms. Elizabeth, Patrick and Epiphany defied a court order filed by Alexis to do life saving experimental surgery on Sam at Jason’s request. They were all arrested, and Elizabeth and her husband, Lucky, had an argument when she refused to leave until Jason and the others were freed as well. She was furious that Jason was in handcuffs, and that they had been arrested for saving Sam’s life. Sam’s mother, Alexis Davis, agreed to drop the charges. Jason broke up with Sam while she was recovering from surgery, feeling his life was too dangerous. Jason and Elizabeth began spending more time together, and when Elizabeth was kidnapped by Manny Ruiz, he raced to the hospital to try to save her. He found her held at knifepoint by Manny, with Lucky severely injured on the ground nearby.

Sam tried to change his mind but failed. Justus Ward was killed by Manny Ruiz when he went to a meeting in his place. Jason found Sam and rescued her after Manny held her hostage and was shot in the process. He killed Manny by pushing him off the roof of General Hospital. These two events caused Jason to push Sam away even more. Jason also exposed Ric’s lies and manipulations after he bought Emily a dress that looked like Lily’s to make Sonny snap, helped Sonny recover from his break down, and convinced him to get some professional help.

Jason and Elizabeth

Elizabeth and Jason have been close for years, alternating between budding romance and friendship. When Elizabeth struggled to make ends meet as Lucky recovered from a back injury, Jason, seeing the strain she was under, paid all of her bills, including Lucky’s hospital and rehab charges. When Elizabeth found out, it was difficult for her pride to accept, but she thanked him, and let Lucky believe his brother Nikolas had helped out, knowing Lucky’s pride would suffer if he found out Jason had paid their bills.

Sam moved in with Alexis and her family. During a blackout in August 2006, feeling down after being rejected once again, Sam got drunk and slept with Ric Lansing, Alexis' husband and Jason’s enemy. When Jason went looking for Sam to reconcile with her he saw Sam having sex with Ric. Jason was upset and later found Elizabeth outside his door. She had discovered that Lucky was addicted to pain pills and cheating on her with Maxie Jones. Jason and Elizabeth both got drunk and were upset so they slept together as well.

During this time, Jason and Sam were trying once more to rebuild their relationship, each strugglig with the knowledge that the other had slept with another. Sam was broken hearted that Jason might have fathered Elizabeth’s child, the baby she yearned for so badly. After Elizabeth told Jason his apartment had been bugged by Ric, they were confronted by him in the parking garage of the penthouse. Jason sent Elizabeth away, and then beat Ric badly after he told Jason to stay away from Elizabeth, and called Sam names.

Jason tried to be there for Sam as a friend after Alexis was diagnosed with lung cancer and she needed Sam but their relationship was strained. Sam promised to stay away from Jason but was ultimately unable to do so.

She discovered she was pregnant and told Jason. He proposed to Elizabeth as he thought it was the honorable thing to do, but Elizabeth declined. Elizabeth took a paternity test and learned Jason was the father. Elizabeth lied about the results when she was told that Jason and Sam had reconciled.

Sam was arrested because Ric and Lorenzo framed her and she was accused of stealing an incriminating hard drive on Sonny and Jason. This was part of a plan to get Jason and Sam killed for resisting arrest. Sam escaped police custody and went on the run with Jason. They tracked down the person who made the flash drive, found the techno-geek Damien Spinelli, and contacted Sonny to arrange their surrender. Ric and Lorenzo found out and planed to stop them. Alcazar sent people to kill them. Jason and Sam got caught in an ambush with Alcazar’s son Diego and several gunmen and Sam shot Diego Alcazar dead in self-defense while her little sister Kristina watched. Spinelli got away and Sam was arrested again. Jason dropped his gun and attempted to surrender unarmed but the police shot him on Ric’s orders. He fell into a lake, and was presumed dead.

At Luke and Laura’s “wedding,” Ric announced that Jason was most likely dead in a shootout, and Elizabeth fainted. Later, she went to the chapel to pray for Jason to be safe, stunned as she heard a groan behind her. Elizabeth found Jason in a church and told him that he was the father of her unborn baby in an attempt to get him to stay alive. She took Jason to her art studio nursed him back to health. He did not remember her confession about their baby and Elizabeth decided not to tell him it again. Alexis agreed to defend Sam against the charges against her and Ric released Sam on the hopes that she would lead him straight to Jason. Jason rescued Lulu and Spinelli after they were kidnapped. Jason and Lulu teamed up to find Spinelli and cleared Jason’s name of all charges. Ric decided to drop all charges against Sam.

Sam’s jealousy grew over the next several months as she continued to see Jason and Elizabeth together. Sam tried to tell Elizabeth to stop seeing Jason, but both Jason and Elizabeth refused to stop being friends. During this time, Sam was becoming obsessed with having a child with Jason, crushed when Dr. Lee told her that as a result of the gunshot she’d suffered, she would be unable to have a child.

Metro Court Hotel Hostage crisis

The Metro Court Hotel was taken over in February sweeps 2007 by a man named James Craig and several masked henchmen. and the people inside the lobby held hostage. Among the hostages were Jason’s father Alan, sister Emily, first love Robin Scorpio, Sam, Sonny, Carly, and a very pregnant Elizabeth. Jason enlisted the help of computer hacker friend Spinelli to break into the hotel. Jason went uncover as one of the masked gunmen and tried to rescue the hostages, watching as his father had a heart attack, and Elizabeth had contractions. Sam recognized Jason, pointing him out to Elizabeth, and he told Elizabeth to run to the door, and Sam to be ready to sneak out to warn the cops. Once the safe was opened, Jason began to fight Mr. Craig, losing the detonator for the bomb wired in the lobby. The button was pushed by one of the mercenaries, and as cops swarmed in, tear gas went off, and shots were fired, Jason swooped in to grab Elizabeth, saving her and their child as he got them into an elevator, cushioning her fall as it fell to the basement. Realizing it was Jason, they hugged, and later, Elizabeth told him the truth, that he was the father of her baby. Shocked at first, Jason was upset, asking why she didn’t tell him. Accepting her explanation and apologies, and becoming excited over being a father, he once again asked her to marry him. Elizabeth again declined his proposal, reminding him of Sam and Lucky. After they’d been rescued, Sam told Jason that she had found out she could never carry a child. His guilt was immense, and he didn’t know how he could tell her that Elizabeth already carried his child. He went to find Elizabeth, only to see her comforting a distraught Lucky, and he turned away at the door. He then went to find and kill Craig, but left to see Alan, arriving too late. In with his dead father, he told Alan he was sorry, that he finally understands him, and that he and Elizabeth were having a baby.

Elizabeth approached Jason and asked him to allow her to marry Lucky and let her raise his child with him in order to prevent Lucky from going back to drugs. He agreed because he thought his job was too dangerous for his child and he did not want to hurt Sam. He soon felt torn between his responsibilities with his child, his growing feelings for Elizabeth, Elizabeth’s wish to raise it with Lucky, and Sam. During this time, he grieved for Alan, for choices he wished he had made differently with his father. Sam was gone on a business trip, and Elizabeth went to the penthouse, helping him get ready for the funeral. They felt their baby kicking, smiling at each other.

Jason struggled with his decision not to claim his son. He and Elizabeth had numerous talks about their choice. Going to her wedding to Lucky, he watched her marry another man, as she looked at him sadly. Both were in a web of their own lies. His lack of attention began to affect his job, and he was not as cautious as normal. During this time, Sam and Jason grew even more distant, and Elizabeth struggled to make her marriage work, determined to give her children a stable home life with Lucky.

Elizabeth realized Lucky’s job as a cop was just as dangerous at Jason’s job. Elizabeth felt guilty for making Jason give up his baby and tried to get him involved however she could.. Spinelli hacked into the hospital records, finding out by accident that Jason was the father of Elizabeth’s baby. Lucky’s sister Lulu was there and she confronted Jason. He explained to her their choices, and, after a great deal of worrying, Lulu finally accepted their choices. During a storm, Jason went to check on Elizabeth and found her bleeding and unconscious on the floor. He rushed Elizabeth to General Hospital and doctors performed an emergency C-Section on Elizabeth. Jason watched from the window as the doctors struggled to keep Elizabeth and the baby alive. She gave birth to Jason’s son and named him Jacob Martin, claiming to Lucky that Jake was a good strong name, and Martin after her grandfather. In reality, she confessed to Jason, she named him that so he’d have his real father’s initials. Sam went to the hospital in order to congratulate Lucky and Elizabeth on the birth of their son and overheard Jason and Elizabeth say Jason was the father of Jake. Sam was heartbroken, hurt and betrayed. She got drunk and told her boss Amelia Joffe that Jason was Jake‘s father.

Sam became determined that Jason would tell her the truth about Jake. Still desperate for a child with Jason, she began to think that she and Jason could have sole custody of Jake. In an effort to force Jason to tell he the truth, she set up a meeting for her show at Sonny’s café, supposedly to ask Elizabeth if she and Jake would be on the show, making sure Jason would also be there. She also staged a picnic at the park while Elizabeth and her boys were there, but both attempts failed, serving only to make Jason uncomfortable. He asked her why she set up the picnic. She tried to talk Jason into having a baby of their own, but he refused. She ignored his refusal and decided to have a baby of her own by a surrogate mother but found out her eggs were useless and all her options were impossible. Her jealousy of Elizabeth became all consuming, and she began to hate her for having the child she wanted so badly. It was obvious that Sam and Jason were growing more and more distant, and Sam felt she was losing Jason. Jason was arrested for the murder of Lorenzo Alcazar. However, this did not deter Elizabeth and Jason spending time together. She continued to see him at the jail. One day, out at the park, she put Jake in his stroller, leaning down to tie Cam’s shoe. When she stood up, Jake was gone. She was taken to the PCPD as they searched, and she went in to see Jason, telling him their son was gone. He did his best to comfort her, horrified. It was only when Mac, Lainey, and Lucky began to subtly accuse her of hurting her son did Liz and Jason realized she was a suspect. Jason yelled at the others, furious at the thought that someone would accuse Elizabeth of hurting their son.

Elizabeth and Lucky’s fragile marriage was falling apart as the search for Jake continued. Lucky blamed Elizabeth for not watching Jake, and she cried out that she only tied Cam’s shoe. As Elizabeth continued to go to Jason for support, Lucky became jealous. He was hurt that she felt she could depend on Jason, but not on him. Elizabeth finally told him that Jason didn’t accuse her, that Jason knew she would never hurt her son. When Lucky said she wished Jason was free to search for Jake, she told him yes, that Jason wouldn’t let jealousy issues affect his search for Jake, and that she was too tired to continue to pacify Lucky’s feelings of inadequacy. Lucky and Elizabeth went to Sam’s show to ask to make a plea on TV, but Sam refused. This was after Sam went to the Spencer house, telling Elizabeth they’d both lost a child, and that Elizabeth needed to accept that Jake was gone. Elizabeth threw her out of the house. Sam went to the jail, telling Jason she knew the truth, and they argued. Jason was already aware that Sam knew, because of her producer, and also aware of how much she resented his son. He believed it likely that Sam had taken Jake, and instructed Spinelli and Sonny to have her watched. Sam couldn’t believe he would think her guilty of that, and stormed out. Jason was released on bail, and he and Amelia followed a lead to a woman that Sam had interviewed. The woman had Jake, and told them that Sam had seen her take the baby, presuming they already knew. Jason returned his son to Elizabeth, and he held Cam to see his baby brother, as Elizabeth cuddled Jake. Lucky walked in on the family like scene, and promptly arrested Jason for jumping bail. This led to numerous other fights between Liz and Lucky.

Elizabeth frequently tried to visit Jason and it was apparent she didn't love Lucky. During the trial,Elizabeth was in the room when Jason was shoved in, and he told her he knew what he had to protect before being taken out again. Lucky was stunned when it came out that she and Jason had slept together last August, and, at recess, he taunted Jason, who did his best to ignore him. Elizabeth was then questioned about Jake, and perjured herself by saying that Jake was Lucky’s son. Later that day, she and Ric had a large fight about Jason, and she told Ric she knew exactly who Jason was. The one she’d been blind about was Ric. The next day, she took the stand once more, against Jason’s wishes, at his lawyer’s request. It was very clear from both testimonies that her loyalties were with Jason.

Jason was acquitted of all charges, and as he exited the courtroom, Elizabeth ran into his arms, and they hugged, relieved, as a disgusted Sam watched them, and the tv cameras rolled. Later that day, Lucky saw them on the TV. Lucky and Elizabeth were barely speaking. He felt betrayed by Elizabeth not telling him what had happened between her and Jason, and by her refusal to end her friendship with Jason. He believed that Jason wanted Elizabeth.

Spinelli asked what Jason would want, and he admitted that he’d like Elizabeth and the boys to be with him. He added extra protection to the penthouse, and headed to the park. However, at that point, Elizabeth was being held at gunpoint by two men, as Jake sat in his stroller, and Cameron stood next to her. Sam arrived, saving them by threatening the men. Later, Sam paid off the men, telling them to get out of town, she’d set the whole thing up. Jason and Elizabeth met, and Jason told Elizabeth he wanted a life with her and the boys. He would protect them. Elizabeth, tears in her eyes, told him abut the men holding guns on her and her sons, and Jason knew what he wanted couldn’t be. He told her would walk away from their son, and that that meant walking away from her. He told her he loved her, and she told him she loved him, and always would. They shared a sweet kiss, before she walked off sadly.

Liz told Lucky she couldn’t make the marriage work alone, and if he wanted to try, she would too. They agreed to. However, Lucky was hurt that Liz had not mentioned that the men had mentioned Jason. Jason hunted down the men who’d threatened Elizabeth and her sons, and found out Sam was responsible. He told her to leave Elizabeth and the boys alone, and when she continued arguing, asking what he would do, Jason told her he would kill her if she ever hurt Liz or the boys again.

Sam began to bond with Lucky, determined to destroy Elizabeth’s faltering marriage in revenge. She even went so far as to show Jason the hot tub she planned to seduce Lucky in. Jason saw Lucky and Sam kissing in the park, and Lucky told him he might get Elizabeth, but he’d never get his sons. After Elizabeth turned down a romantic night with Lucky, he went to Sam, and they slept together. Elizabeth found out, and surprised Nikolas with her calm, accepting reaction. At this point, she accepted she was in the marriage only to provide the boys with a family. Emily attempted to encourage her to end the marriage, and encouraged Jason to claim his family.

Elizabeth ran into Jason at the barn where Lulu had been, and he told her that Diane, Sonny, Lulu, Spin and most likely Emily knew Jake was his son. He also told her what all Sam had done. They once again told each other they loved them, and shared another kiss before Elizabeth left.

Elizabeth and Lucky finally chose to end their marriage, and Emily helped Elizabeth find a home of her own. She hired Jason’s lawyer, Diane, to fill out the divorce papers, and Lucky became bitter that she was using Jason’s lawyer. After a great deal of accusations, and Lucky retaining Alexis, they agreed that Liz would have full custody, and Lucky unlimited visitation.

At the black and white ball held at Wyndemere, Elizabeth and Sam got in a fight when after Sam saw a farewell dance between Liz and Lucky on the terrace. Elizabeth called her a "lying bitch", and made it clear that Jason told her everything Sam had done. Of course, this made Sam even more furious that Jason was honest with Elizabeth, when he had lied to her for so long. Elizabeth smacked Sam, who punched Liz, and they began to fight in earnest, broken up by Lucky. Later, Elizabeth wandered the dark halls, terrified after finding a dead body. Jason, who’d come to the island by boat, found her, and took her to the stables. He asked about the bruise on her face, and she told him she started a fight with Sam. She warned him Sam wanted revenge on them. He left her his gun, and they exchanged a kiss before he went back to the house. Later, she ran into his arms once again in front of Lulu, Johnny, Spinelli and Nadine, who he’d brought down.

After saving Carly, Jason told her that Sam, who’d helped in the shootout, knew why he’d never forgive her. Sam was angry, and when Lucky appeared, she took him to the barn, knowing Liz was there. Jason walked in to find Sam yelling at Liz, and stopped her, telling Lucky the truth, that he was Jake’s father. Lucky was disbelieving at first, then broken hearted, and Jason let him punch him without fighting back. They argued, and Jason backed Elizabeth up as they faced off with Lucky and Sam. Lucky and Sam went back to the house, and Jason told Elizabeth brokenly that he couldn’t lie about his son anymore. She apologized, and they talked about the first time they met, years ago at the bar. She said she thought she fell in love with him then, and he told her that she had been so angry and beautiful, he had no idea he would fall in love with her, that she’d be the mother of his child.

It was also at the Black and White ball that Emily Quartermaine was killed, devastating both Elizabeth and Jason. Elizabeth was taken from the ballroom by Anthony Zacchara, and Jason arrived on the parapet to find Elizabeth standing on the edge, as Anthony held a gun on her. After noting that Jason loved Elizabeth, he told him someone was going to die, and he was either going to push Elizabeth or Jason could get on the ledge with her. He asked him the tagline from the November Sweeps- "Would you die for Love?" Jason set his gun down, going to stand with Elizabeth, despite her telling him no. Fortunately, Elizabeth was able to jump back off the parapet, and kicked Anthony, freeing Jason to grab the gun, and he shot at Anthony as he threw himself off the parapet.

Jason was told not to go to his sister's funeral by Monica, although after a talk with Carly he decided to go and sit in the lobby. Elizabeth, speaking at the funeral, brought up Jason and how he had been Emily's hero, and Jason appeared in the doorway, causing Elizabeth to pause in her speech. He then stepped out of sight once more.

Elizabeth went home to find Jason waiting at her house, and they made love, later once again saying they loved each other. Jason spent time with the boys, before leaving. Lucky decided he wanted to continue being the boys’ father, and he guilted Elizabeth into agreeing. Jason also agreed with Lucky, telling Elizabeth that although what he wanted more than anything was to live with her and the boys, to raise the boys together, he couldn't disagree that Jake would be safer with Lucky as the "father."

Elizabeth and Jason tried briefly to stay away from each other, but soon found it impossible. They met at the MetroCourt, and made love, deciding to have a secret affair, their only way to be together and still keep Elizabeth and the boys safe from the dangers of his life. Jason had Max set up a safe house as a safe place for he and Elizabeth to continue their affair, and they sneaked away as often as possibly to spend time together, although Jason is often called away due to work issues.

Murder of Lorenzo Alcazar and Paternity Secret

Jason killed Lorenzo Alcazar on May 23, 2007 on Sonny’s orders and with Skye Quatermaine’s permission after the gunshot Alcazar experienced altered his personality dramatically.[15] Jason was arrested for the murder of Lorenzo Alcazar by Lucky Spencer on Ric‘s orders since Ric had incriminating evidence. After Sonny told Jason about the secret past Sam tried to cover up from him, he called Amelia Joffe and had her meet with him while he was in lock up. Amelia told Jason that Sam conned five men into marrying her to get their money. One of these men was Amelia's father, Bill Monroe, who Sam killed in self defense. She also revealed that Sam knew the truth about Jake and had tried to lie and manipulate him into telling her the truth. She told him Sam feared Jason and Elizabeth were in love and would do anything not to lose him. Jason did not believe he was one of Sam's targets but was shocked to hear she knew about Jake and his trust in her began to fade.

Elizabeth told Jason their son had been kidnapped from the park. Upon being granted bail, Jason searched for his son. He and Amelia found Jake at the house of one of Sam's guest who had lost a child. Jason returned to Port Charles with Jake, brought him home to Elizabeth. The reunion was interrupted by Lucky who arrested Jason for jumping bail while he was searching for Jake, much to Elizabeth’s dismay.

After Jason was arrested, Scott Baldwin decided that Jason was a flight risk and had him sent to Pentonville until his trial started. Before Jason was sent to prison, he met with his lawyer Diane. He asked her to get Maureen some personal help and not let anyone take her son Eric from her. Jason was visited by his family and friends while he was in jail. Elizabeth Spencer paid Jason a visit after she stole her husband’s police badge and pretended to be Detective Lucky Spencer. She thanked him for bringing Jake home safely and brought along pictures of Jake with the hopes that they might sustain him.

Sam paid Jason a visit while he was in jail and confronted him about Jake and her past. Jason refused to forgive Sam for watching Jake get kidnapped and doing nothing to stop it and Sam was angry that Jason about Elizabeth. Jason and Sam broke up and Sam threatened to tell Lucky the truth about Jake. Jason told her that if she did he would turn her in as an accessory for her part in Jake’s kidnapping and have her arrested. Sam angrily walked out on him without a glance back through the door. Jason was transferred back from Pentonville Prison to the Port Charles lock up the day before his trial for the murder of Lorenzo Alcazar started. Amelia Joffe and her camera people were there to tape his transfer on Ric’s request. Jason became the target of crossfire by three masked gunmen but managed to save Amelia's life. Amelia was very grateful towards Jason for saving her life and paid him a visit. The two talked and she told Jason she planned to use the media to cast him in a better light.

Jason was defended at his trial for the murder of Lorenzo Alcazar by his lawyer Diane Miller. During his trial, Ric made Elizabeth admit under oath that she and Jason had slept together but she lied about Jake's paternity. Jason was acquitted after fabricated evidence came through showing that Lorenzo was still alive.

New threats

Sam hates Jason and Elizabeth and blames Elizabeth for her breakup with Jason. Sam hired men to threaten Elizabeth, Cameron, and Jake in the park at gunpoint and had them say they planned to kidnap them and use them as leverage against Jason because she wanted to make Elizabeth too scared to be with Jason. Jason called Elizabeth to try to be together. Elizabeth informed Jason of the men who threatened her in the park. Jason and Elizabeth were heartbroken and declared their love for each other. The two shared a "good-bye kiss" and agreed to stay away from each other for good to protect Elizabeth and her children.

Jason and Spinelli teamed up in order to find the men who threatened Elizabeth and her children. After Jason found the men he learned that Sam had hired them. Jason threatened to kill her if she tried to hurt Elizabeth and her children again. He decided not to tell Elizabeth the truth because he believed the boys and her were safer with Lucky. Sam ignored Jason's warning and decided to destroy Lucky and Elizabeth's marriage and make Elizabeth lose her children. She hired Lucky as her bodyguard, started to feed into his insecurities about Elizabeth, and seduced him.[16]

Sonny and Jason have a new enemy named Anthony Zacchara. His lawyer Trevor Lansing, Ric's father, came to town. They discover that Trevor is in fact in control of the Zacchara organization because Zacchara is crazy. Michael and Morgan Corinthos's nanny Leticia Juarez was murdered and Jason suspects that Zacchara was behind it. Jason and Robin have become friends again. Robin asked Jason to be the father of her baby but Jason said he could not bear to not be a part of his child's life and gently told her no.

Lulu moved in with Jason and Spinelli after she left the Logan's apartment. Jason told Elizabeth about all the people who knew the truth about Jake and what Sam had done. Emily figured out that Jason and Elizabeth are in love and that Jake is their son. She keeps trying to talk Jason and Elizabeth into becoming a couple.

Jason kidnapped Johnny and questioned him. Johnny told him he did not kill Leticia and refused to tell him where his father was at. Later, Johnny and Lulu took off again and Jason went after them in order to find Lulu and bring her back to Port Charles.

Black and White Ball

Jason found out that Anthony Zacchara was at the black and white ball at Wyndemere. Jason drove a speedboat over to Wyndemere in order to save his family and friends. He found Elizabeth, talked to her, gave her a gun, taught her how to shoot with it, and took her to the stables to keep her safe from Anthony. He also found Spinelli, Nadine, and Lulu and took them to the stables to stay with Elizabeth so they would be safe. Sam became angry and tried to tell Lucky the truth about Jake to get back at Jason and Elizabeth but Jason stopped her and yelled at her. Jason told Lucky that Jake was his son. After Lucky and Sam leave, Jason and Liz talk about their past and when they first met. They begin to talk about their future when Spinelli comes in and interrupts them. Jason sent his sister back to the barn to be with Elizabeth, and Emily tells Elizabeth she knew that Jake was Jason's after Elizabeth tells her Lucky knows the truth. The girls hug, and Emily tells Elizabeth she supported her, urging her to be with Jason. Emily then leaves to go find Nikolas. Emily is murdered off screen, while Nikolas is with her, and Jason finds the sobbing Nikolas holding his dead sister. Later, he brings Elizabeth back to Emily's body. Jason leaves Elizabeth with Nikolas when he hears gunshots. Elizabeth is grabbed by Anthony Zacchara and taken up to the parapet. Jason goes to the parapet after Carly tells him Zacchara took Sonny and Kate up there. He is surprised to find Elizabeth standing on the edge and Zacchara holding a gun on her. Zacchara tells Jason that he either jumps of the ledge, or he'll push Elizabeth. Despite Elizabeth's protests, Jason sets down his gun and climbs up beside Elizabeth. As Zacharra goes on telling them to jump or be shot, Elizabeth turns and jumps back onto the parapet, now lying beside him. She and Jason exchange a few looks and Liz kicks out Zacharra's legs from under him prompting him to drop his gun. Zacchara kept to his vow that someone was going to fly tonight, and he jumped himself! Jason picked up the gun and fired after him. On the ground below, Trevor found Zacchara still alive, with a couple of bullets in him thanks to Jason and very weak, and told his old friend that it was time for him to die. “You're of no use to me anymore,” Trevor said as he walked away.

Dealing With Death of Emily and the Text Message Killer

Jason took Liz inside and they warmed up by a fireplace. Jason then caught up with Carly. Johnny explained how he had revived Carly after she had been strangled with a phone cord, and said he saw her attacker run out of the room. Logan and Lulu were there and he wasn't buying it. Jason confirmed that Zacchara jumped so he couldn't have been Carly's attacker. Jason found Zacharra and drew his gun preparing to kill him for good, then aimed his gun at Johnny when he got between him and his father. At this time, Mac, Detective Harper and officers finally arrived via helicopter and when they ordered Jason to drop his gun, he did. Maxie, Georgie, Spinelli, and Nadine who'd been in the barn, along with Logan and Lulu, came on the scene and Maxie and Georgie hugged their uncle Mac and told him of Emily's death. Mac asked Jason if he shot Zacharra for his killing Emily.

Jason had to tell Monica that Emily had died at what he believed was the hand of Anthony Zacchara. Monica recognized the name from what she has heard and assumed that the Emily’s murder was aimed at Sonny and Jason. Jason offered to find someone that could console her and she reminded him that everyone (with the exception of himself) from her immediate family (Alan, AJ, and Emily) was dead and he was all that was left.

Monica forgot about Jason's own pain and guilt over his sister's death and blamed everything entirely on him. She stated that he was nothing but a murderer and kicked him out of her house, threw him out of her life, and banished him from attending Emily's funeral. Jason understands why Monica is mad at him and it is affecting him more than he thought it would. His mother was always there for him, even when he didn't want her to be. he kills him to know that their relationship will never be repaired.

Jason finally followed Carly's advice, and went to Emily's funeral, although he remained in the vestibule, stepping out only briefly as Elizabeth spoke about Emily's love for him. Only Sam and Elizabeth saw him at the funeral.

When Cooper Barrett was found dead in his apartment, the police closed the TMK case. Jason doesn't believe the TMK is dead and is working with Maxie Jones and Spinelli to find the true Text Message Killer so that he doesn't hurt anyone else.

Nightshift

Jason arrived at the hospital with Spinelli after the young computer hacker shot himself in the foot. Spinelli was about to get in trouble with the police, and Jason took the blame, claiming his gun went off while cleaning it, since he had a gun permit, and Spinelli did not. Jason pled guilty, and was sentenced to community service at the hospital, where he worked as a janitor. Spinelli was often at the hospital, speaking to Jason, and viewers also saw Robin and Jason reconnect more, their friendship redeveloping. Then a gangster arrived at the hospital claiming he was injured. Rival gang members came and and a shoot out developed. Jason thinking quickley grabbed a gun shot many of them down. One of them held Robin as a hostage. After a while they gave each other a "Get ready" look and he killed the guy holding her.
