Zen Yoga

Zen Yoga is a holistic practice that unites the three parts of the self - body, mind and spirit. It combines the graceful movements of tai chi, the energized breathing of qigong and the relaxed stretching of Shanti (peace) yoga. The basic principle of Zen Yoga is that the benefits of simple breathing, movement and stretching exercises are available to anyone regardless of age, fitness ability or health status. While many modern yoga practices tend toward dynamic poses, Zen Yoga is more concerned with helping people feel better with simple and effective breathing and movement practices.

founder

Zen Yoga was founded by Aaron Hoopes in 2002 after over twenty years of studying martial arts, yoga and various Eastern healing traditions. He is the author of Perfecting Ourselves: Coordinating Body, Mind and Spirit and Breathe Smart: The Secret to Happiness, Health and Long Life. In 2007 Mr. Hoopes wrote Zen Yoga: A Path to Enlightenment through Breathing, Movement and Meditation. This book sets down the fundamental principles of Zen Yoga and creates the framework for Zen Yoga as a life practice.

organization

The structure of Zen Yoga is much like a traditional martial art where students advance through levels after studying and practicing for extended periods of time. Zen Yoga has instructors and practitioners around the world in countries including Australia, Japan, South Africa, and Canada. Zen Yoga is part of the International Yoga Federation which is based in India.

Student Response Systems

Student Response Systems are sometimes referred to as Classroom Performance Systems, Classroom Response Systems, or more generally known as Audience Response Systems. Student Response Systems are Audience Response Systems that are used to achieve pedagogical goals in in the classroom. According to Kaleta and Joosten (2007), "Student Response Systems (SRS) or clicker systems are increasingly being adopted by faculty and are transforming traditionally passive lecture courses into stimulating and active classes...Once in the classroom, faculty can pose questions at pedagogically strategic moments in the course and allow students to respond using the second component of a Student Response System, the personal response unit or clicker, to send their responses to the classroom computer. These personal response units vary in size from the equivalent of a large television remote to that of a credit card, but they all essentially do the same thing. Students press a number from 0 through 9 to indicate their response to the question being asked by an instructor. The third component of a Student Response System is the receiver, which usually connects to the computer being used in the classroom through the USB port and captures responses from students' clickers" (p.2).
