Maplin Electronics is a retailer of electronic goods in the UK and Republic of Ireland. As of 2008, there are 144 Maplin Electronics stores in the United Kingdom. Additionally, it operates an extensive web and catalogue based mail-order service.
Maplin sell a variety of electrical equipment such as audio/visual devices, electrical components, computer components, cables, TV and satellite equipment and everyday electrical items such as batteries, light bulbs, power adaptors and solar energy panels. The company also sell mp3 players, portable televisions and satellite navigation equipment. The target market ranges from the general consumer to the more technical electronics hobbyist. More recently the company has expanded its product ranges to be more mainstream for example bringing in well known brand names such as Seagate and TomTom, however the company still retains its roots by being one of the only major, nationwide stockists of electical components.
As of 17th April 2008, the next Maplin Electronics store to open will be Bedford.
Maplin Electronics is the current sponsor of the UK Snooker Championship.
