Washim is a railway station on Kacheguda-Khandwa Meter Gauge Section of Hyderabad(HYB) Division of South Central Railway(SCR). After Divisional adjustments in 2003, which saw the bifurcation of Hyderabad Division, Washim now comes under Nanded(NED) Division of SCR. The section from Purna and Akola passing through Washim is now under Gauge Conversion Process.

Washim is a city and a municipal council in Washim district in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Washim is a headquarter of newly formed Washim district

Washim which was also known as Vatsagulma was the seat of power during Vakataka dynasty.

Geography

Washim is located at 20°06′N 77°09′E / 20.1°N 77.15°E / 20.1; 77.15[1]. It has an average elevation of 546 metres (1791 feet). In washim one famous temple of Lord Balaji which was built in near 1800 century. There are three lakes in the city. Name of the lakes are 1.Dev 2. Narayan baba 3. PadmaTirtha

As of 2001 India census[2], Washim had a population of 62,863. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Washim has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 62%. In Washim, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Though washim is district place.The Karanja(Taluka)is leading in educational facilities. The city is under development. Infrastructure is very poor. The city is neglected one.
