Aero-Tropics Air Services is an airline based in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. It operates scheduled domestic services to around 15 destinations. Its main base is Cairns International Airport, with a hub at Horn Island Airport[1].

History

The airline has been operating charters since 1997 and scheduled services since February 2000. It has 50 employees (at March 2007)[1]. It has grown from one Partenavia aircraft used for charter work to a fleet of 15 aircraft. This is a family owned company, full of no goods that employ drug abusing pilots and ground staff. Not a good company, not at all good people.[citation needed]

Incidents and accidents

On 7 May 2005 a Transair operated Fairchild Metro III operating an Aero Tropics service (flight 675 from Bamaga) was carrying out an approach to Lockhart River aerodrome in Queensland, when it hit the 1,300ft Pap Ridge 90ft below its highest point in low cloud and squally rain. The two crew and thirteen passengers died in the accident. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau initial factual report states the aircraft's power settings at impact appeared normal for an approach, but that the aircraft was about 1,000ft below the minimum obstacle clearance height for that position[2].

Fleet
