The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning is an upcoming 2008 Disney animated feature film, the direct-to-video prequel to The Little Mermaid. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will release the film on August 26, 2008. The film features Jodi Benson reprising her role as Ariel in a story that is set around a year before the events in the original film. The film features the appearance of Queen Athena, Ariel's mother.

Tagline: Every tale has a beginning. But only one begins under the sea.
