Morningrise is Opeth's second album, released in Europe by Candlelight Records, and in the United States by Century Media Records in 1997, and later reissued by Candlelight Records in 2000. The reissue release contains a bonus track, "Eternal Soul Torture". Morningrise continues the typical "Opeth sound", exploring the dynamics between the combination of heavy death metal vocals and guitar parts with more mellow progressive and acoustic elements. Morningrise contains five songs, all of which are over 10 minutes in length. Morningrise contains "Black Rose Immortal", Opeth's longest song as of now, at a little more than 20 minutes, as well as "The Night And The Silent Water", a song about Mikael Åkerfeldt's grandfather who had recently passed away at the time of the recording. For this reason, "The Night And The Silent Water" has never been played at a live Opeth performance. "To Bid You Farewell", Morningrise's final and most mellow song, contains acoustic guitar parts and no death metal vocals. Many Opeth fans and critics alike consider Morningrise to be Opeth's Magnum opus.
