John D. Hancock is an Academy Award nominated[1] feature film director, best known for the 1973 film Bang the Drum Slowly, starring Robert De Niro. Also a theatre director and writer for screen and stage, Hancock is married to actress Dorothy Tristan.

In addition to Bang the Drum Slowly, Hancock's other film directing credits include California Dreaming, Let's Scare Jessica to Death, Baby Blue Marine, Weeds, and Prancer.[2]
