Season 1 (1989-1990) on NBC
Original series run on NBC which was cancelled after one season. Series continued in syndication.

In the pilot, Mitch has just been promoted to lieutenant. Mitch and his ex-wife Gayle have an argument about what's best for their son Hobie. Eddie Kramer is the top rookie in the rookie class of '89, and Shauni McClain is one of the last ones to qualify. Shauni starts off as a terrible lifeguard, but the experienced Jill teaches her how to become a good lifeguard. In order to cheer Hobie up, Mitch and his old lifeguard friend Al, takes Hobie on a fishing trip. Then something happens and the boat sinks below the surface. Mitch and Al have to rescue the people on the boat. Disaster strike during the final rescue when Al gets trapped inside the wreck and dies. Baywatch arranges a funeral at sea for Al, with Mitch holding a speech. Meanwhile, Craig rescues a girl named Laurie. She is crazy and follows Craig around the whole day. When Craig is about to close his tower, he is surprised to find Laurie in the tower. Just when another lifeguard approaches the tower, Laurie takes her clothes off and Craig doesn't know what to believe. Later at Mitch's party, Laurie tells Gina that she and Craig has had sex together. Later when Craig and Gina finds Laurie in a tower, she has been beaten up by someone. Laurie claims that her father is the guilty one. Therefore, Craig and Gina lets her spend the night in their house. The next morning Craig pays Mrs. Harris a visit and finds out that Laurie's dad has been dead for ten years. Laurie has just been released from the hospital and Craig suddenly realize that Gina might be in danger. Craig finds Gina and Laurie under the pier where Laurie is trying to kill Gina with a knife. But Craig manages to talk her out of it. Trevor Cole from Australia works as a lifeguard at the local beach club. Trevor thinks that he is the best and Mitch immediately dislikes him. During a rescue, Trevor rescues a woman instead of two boys who were closer to him. After that incident, Mitch makes it perfectly clear to Trevor that on Mitch's beach, you follow his rules. Even though Mitch doesn't like him, he tries to imitate him by climbing up a pipe using just arms and legs. Notes Richard Jaeckel who plays Al Gibson in this episode, later played Lt. Ben Edwards 1991-1994. Gina Hecht plays Gina Pomeroy in the pilot, but Holly Gagnier takes over the role in subsequent episodes. Nancy Valen who plays Hallie in the pilot, later became a regular cast member in 1996 as Captain Samantha Thomas. Brian Austin Green from "Beverly Hills 90210" has a small role as a boy on the beach in this episode. John Sherrod has a small role as life guard Owen in this episode. Kellie Martin plays Chelsea Carol, a girl Hobie is interested in. The characters listed as unknown are (1)Frightened Mother, (2)Female Lifeguard, (3)Peter Kelly, (4)James, a lifeguard.
