Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) is a public transport operator founded on 6th August 1987.
In November 7 1987, it started services for the first MRT section, five stations on the Toa Payoh to Yio Chu Kang run. In December 11 2001, it merged together with TIBS Holdings.
Currently, SMRT operates and manages the 51 stations along the East-West and North-South line of the Metro network in Singapore, as well as the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (LRT) Network under their subsidiary, SLRT. It also operates bus services in selected housing estates in Northern Singapore. Their competitor is SBS Transit, which operates the North-East Line.
