Note. This is the talk page for the from Flickr upload page. It is linked from Wikipedia:Upload.
Can someone explain why I can't use Flikr image with "Noncommercial" attribute? Wikipedia is free, isn't it? user:Ypcyc —Preceding comment was added at 12:19, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia text and images are supposed to be free for both commercial and non-commercial use. So a "non-commercial use only" image would not be completely free. --Timeshifter (talk) 14:48, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- This is crap? Why does it have to be available for commercial use on wikipedia? Can't we just note the same licence as the flickr pic and then it stops people from using it for commercial use? --Nzhamstar (talk) 18:15, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- I did not create this policy. It was discussed in detail years ago. I agree with it though now. It allows Wikipedia pages to be copied anywhere without complications. --Timeshifter (talk) 00:18, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Am I missing something here?
This is supposed to be an upload page, isn't it? So where are the 'browse...' button, the 'upload' button, the drop-down menus e.t.c.? --The Machine (talk) 18:02, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- That link goes to Wikimedia Commons. I don't have an account there; and before you say, "Create one, then," I thought the whole point of this page was that it was for uploading images found on Flickr to Wikipedia. Am I wrong in that assumption? --The Machine (talk) 16:00, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Go to Special:MergeAccount and your account will become usable on the Wikimedia Commons as well. It's much better to upload free images to the Wikimedia Commons because then Wikipedias in any language can use the images.
- By the way, the link I gave you before was not ideal. [2] is what you want. —Remember the dot (talk) 01:49, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

- Any thoughts on this? Qqqqqq (talk) 19:50, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, all fair use files must be uploaded to Wikipedia and not to the Commons. Use [3] or a more specific upload form. —Remember the dot (talk) 05:27, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Public Domain
I happen to be a user on Flickr, and I realize that Flickr does not yet have the public domain option for users unless they are affilated with the commons, which are museums who have accounts. BoL (Talk) 03:43, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'm confused, your point is? —Giggy 03:51, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- I just noticed the link in the original comment in this section. Thanks for posting it! It is a great place to find public domain images. I have linked to it from other pages listing free image resources. --Timeshifter (talk) 00:18, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
