Electrochemical Grinding

Electrochemical Grinding is a type of grinding where they have a negatively charged grinding wheel and a positively charged workpiece, and also a conductive fluid. The pieces from the workpiece are dissolved into the conductive fluid.


Process Characteristics

  • uses electrically charged wheel
  • workpiece is charged as well
  • wheel lasts a very long time
  • chemically decomposes the workpiece
  • workpiece excess material is made into electrolytes



Process schematics

  • Aluminum oxide wheels are used when grinding steel. Diamond wheels are used when grinding carbines or steels harder than Rockwell C65.
