Paul Fairburn is a British radio broadcaster. He has presented and managed many different radio stations and has gained recognition in the radio world.

Career

Paul Fairburn started doing voice-over work for Pennine Radio and took over doing the breakfast show there. In 1990, he moved to Radio Aire to become programme comtroller. He was involved with the split in frequencies for the station and was responsible for the launch and success of Magic 828. He then became the programme Director of 100.7 Heart FM, Birmingham. Whilst there he helped Galaxy achieve a good record of attracting large audiences he also grew the station to market leadership in three years making it become the largest radio station outside London. He also built an excellent research call-centre. He then became Managing Director of Galaxy 102.2, Birmingham.

There he successfully integrated the old Choice FM into Chrysalis went from the company loss making to £1m profit in the last year and Weekly audience reach grew from 8% to 20% 1998-2005. He then became Managing Director of 100.7 Heart FM, Birmingham. He led the most profitable Chrysalis station over the period and achieved Profit growth of over 75% in first 4 years. Significantly ahead of industry norms. He then became Managing Director of Heart 106 and was in charge of the successful integration and re-branding of Century FM as Heart 106. He then became Managing Director of Chrysalis Radio Digital Operations. He had to Manage the digital carriage for Chrysalis brands and DAB oversight, of both transmission and individual stations (Heart & Galaxy, The Arrow and DNN) Whilst there he made he news for letting the listeners vote on whether to burn 5,000 a woman had won in a competition and was going to spend on plastic surgery.[1] He then became Managing Director – Digital Platforms, Chrysalis/Global Radio. There he was until March 2008, responsible for Global Radio's online, mobile, DAB and DTV activity and Managed commercial interactive team producing websites for clients. Including the Motorola Red campaign site for UK commercial radio. He then became a Freelance Consultant and worked on a variety of projects including; media research for a technology project, advising a US web company, and website optimisation for a recycling company.

He has recently became station director for Smooth Radio, London.[2] Fairburn starts on 2008-06-23. His job will include leading the Smooth station team plus focusing on programming and commercial opportunities.
