I actually don't believe that a Brazilian football club anthem would have such a problem with copyright. They sing it everywhere. I would only suggest to mention the composer and writer, Lamartine Babo, from 1949. <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">—Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.97.231.135 (talk) 01:52, 3 May 2009 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

The anthem is for public domain, registered at the Brazilian Composers Union (http://www.ubc.org.br/consulta/NB/buscatitular.php?p=25817&dig=&nome=HINO%20DO%20VASCO%20DA%20GAMA). I included the lyrics, but accept help in formatting correctly the portuguese and english versions paragraphs, and even for alternative for accurate translation.

Requested move

This article has been renamed as the result of a move request.. From Clube de Regatas Vasco da Gama to Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama. –Hajor 01:34, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The correct club name seems to be Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama. See the official Vasco's site and this fanpage, for confirmation. Because of this, I think that the article should be moved to its correct name. Regards, Carioca 23:03, 17 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm removing the images without a clear copyright status. I've contacted the uploader about that, but he didn't reply.

Is this fair use?

I believe that all images available at http://www.crvascodagama.com/fotos/thumbnails.php?album=3 are free domain, as there is no mention about copyright. However, I just sent a message to Vasco to clarify this aspect.

Racism

The opening says that the club's role in reducing racism deserves special mention.... and then is never mentioned again. Can someone who know more about this expand on it? Liamdaly620 13:26, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is a myth. Both Vasco, Flamengo and Botafago was black-african players in their squad on that time the merit of Vasco was call they to the main team and promote a 100% black team.

That is not a myth. Vasco da Gama was the first club to accept black players in Brazil. Football was considered a higher-class sport, and only the members of the aristocracy would play. As it was 1920s, it was rare to have not low-income black people just a few decades after the end ot slavery in Brazil.

In 1924 the Metropolitan Sports Athletic Association sent a letter to Vasco mentioning that the black players would not be accepted in the League. Jose Augusto Prestes, former Vasco President, gave an answer that became a masterpiece against prejudice in Brazilian sport. The letter is available in Portuguese only at the official website of the club (http://www.crvascodagama.com/?display=HISTORIA-1). This letter is know as the "resposta historica" (historic answer).

It made a revolution not only in Rio de Janeiro Province, but also in the other states, when iniciatives including the "excluded" to the practice of sport inside the clubs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.97.231.135 (talk) 01:48, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anthem

The anthem was removed because it is most likely copyrighted by someone, and keeping it in the article was probably a copyright violation. Also, if the anthem is in the public domain, it belongs to the Wikisource. Regards, Carioca 02:19, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone please disambiguate the link on his page if he has previously played for this club. I'm not sure which club to disambiguate to. Thanks. // Laughing Man 18:24, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done. He played for CR Vasco da Gama. Check this link. --Carioca 19:30, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Special Mention?

Does it seem to anyone else tht this statement is a bit random and perhaps point of view? There doesn't seem to be anything on it in the text about vasco's role in apparently "eradicating" the racism. Also it's worded a bit opinionated, and un-encyclopaedically. I recon this statement should be removed.

Acctually the influence of Vasco was not only avoinding the influence of racism in the acceptance of players in field, but about prejudice in general, as poor white people were also not allowed to play in the official league. I explained a little about it in the topic racism just above, with the "historic answer". Unfortunatelly I couldn't find any source in english language, but the fact is well documented in portuguese, and it would be quite easy to be checked even by a non-portuguese speaker, using some automatic translator.

Romario = Coach

Celso Roth has been fired just days ago, so the owners decided to leave the coaching duties to Romario. He will coach and play at the same time. Source: http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story?id=610870&s=copasud&type=story

Hi! Thanks for updating the article. --Carioca 02:43, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The current coach is Dorival Junior, since December 2008. Please update it! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.97.231.159 (talk) 00:09, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This discussion is very old. The article already lists Dorival Júnior as Vasco's coach, so this info is correct and does not need to be updated. --Carioca (talk) 00:17, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Vasco-da-gama.png

Image:Vasco-da-gama.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Page move

As per User:Carioca's request, reasoning as to why the page was moved from it's original location, in line with WP:NC#Sports teams policy.

The English section of the club's official website predominantly uses the CR abbreviation (as seen here)

Google News search returns no results for either of the names. BanRay 21:45, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
