Colonization of Titan

Should Colonization of Titan be merged with Colonization of the outer solar system at least for the time being?

  • Uniquely among the colonization entries, I think the one on Titan may be lacking in sources focusing specifically on it as opposed to the outer solar system in general. Thoughts? - Reaverdrop 05:16, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
  • I think it's a no brainer and should be done once the AfD process completes. I also think that the Asteroid section should be removed from Colonization of the outer solar system, since many asteroids are in the inner solar system. Also the outer edge of the asteroid belt pretty much marks the limit of where solar power power is practical, which is an important demarcation in terms of colonies. --agr 16:30, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
On second thought, I added some material to Colonization of Titan and it's several times longer than it was when it was nominated, and beginning to be referenced. It seems to have more supporting material than anywhere else in the outer solar system. Maybe it does not need to be merged after all... Thoughts? - Reaverdrop 22:06, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Colonization of Venus

Hi - I decided yesterday that Colonization of Venus is going to be the next article I turn into an FA (assuming things all go well). Nothing sudden as making an FA usually takes a month or so, but I'll be working on it a lot so if anyone wants to help out with adding references or anything else they're more than welcome. I read that pdf by Geoffrey A. Landis two days ago and though I knew before about the temperature up at 50 km, I didn't realize that the pressure's the same as here nor that breathable air floats, and so I'm convinced that this idea needs to be put into the spotlight. Problem with joining

I click on the link thats supposed to make me join but it only shows the members in this project. Anyone tell me how to join? Rk589 (talk) 02:55, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

EDIT Nevermind I found out —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rk589 (talkcontribs) 02:58, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi

Hi guys, I just joined this WikiProject... I am very interested in space colonization and I have a lot of background expertise in the subject... Is there anything I could work on or anything?

Userbox?

So though I've edited wikipedia before, started articles, etc. etc., I've never created a template. I was wondering if anybody thought either of these would be appropriate userboxes for this group? Or if we even need one? Bsimmons666 (talk) 16:14, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Anybody? Bsimmons666 (talk) 15:40, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Boy, I was actually looking for a userbox. I love the second one. I have already added it to my userpage. --Cool Piplup (talk) 01:24, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

See: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Space_Colonization#Userbox. Thanks Wronkiew! Bsimmons666 (talk) 17:26, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

I've put together a banner ad for the project. Check it out and let me know what you think before I set it loose. Image:Qxz-ad157.gif Wronkiew (talk) 04:46, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

I hope you all liked the banner ad, because I added it to the rotation. You can add it to your user page with {{wikipedia ads|ad=157}}. Wronkiew (talk) 19:38, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

I like it :). Bsimmons666 (talk) Friend? 22:04, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Collaboration proposal

I would like to propose that we as a group improve one space colonization article a week. Together as a group, we have the ability to write some really nice articles that will educate people about space colonization. I think it would be a lot of fun to focus our efforts, work together, and see some big improvements in just one article at a time. A new page would be created where you can nominate an article for imprivement. Then, once a week one of these articles will be posted to the project page, and we start hacking away at it. Anyone else interested in such a project? Wronkiew (talk) 17:32, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

I went ahead and created the collaboration page. Wronkiew (talk) 18:33, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the invitation, but I'm really busy with other projects right now. Good luck! Chadlupkes (talk) 22:34, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks to all who participated in the first WikiProject Space Colonization collaboration! We made some minor improvements to the article over the course of a week. I know I was time-constrained due to the holidays, and I suspect others were as well. I'm ready for another collaboration, so I renominated the article for a merge project. Content added to Space colonization

If someone needs a project, you could take a look at the new paragraph that was anonymously added to the space colonization article. It needs to be fact-checked, probably just to make sure that Earth Magazine exists and is a reliable source. Also it needs to be moved to Lunar outpost (NASA) or some other more appropriate article. Wronkiew (talk) 19:03, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Colonization of Jupiter

This article is unreferenced, very speculative, and essentially says that colonizing Jupiter is impossible. I attempted to improve it by merging in the more reasonable articles about its moons, but I see now that this was a mistake. My new plan for improving the Jovian articles involves deleting Colonization of Jupiter. If you think this is a bad idea, please comment on the article's talk page. Thanks. Wronkiew (talk) 07:00, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

I would say merge the article content into Colonization of the outer Solar System. Chadlupkes (talk) 14:26, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
Robert Zubrin is advocating exploration and settlement Jovian moons. I repeat my opinion here. I'd like to see Jovian moons in a separate article (Europa, Ganymede, Callisto), not merged with the rest of the outer Solar System. Efforts, technology, attitudes to Jovian vs e.g. Saturnian, Uranian, etc. are quite different. In my opinion, Jupiter's moons can be colonised long before Venus with less energy because of the abundance of volatiles, although with little solar energy (4% of Earth's level). The planned mission to Europa and Ganymede may affect the growth of the article. Anatoli (talk) 01:01, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
So how about an article on the uses and colonization of the Jupiter system (with subsections, of course)? The present article is a start in this direction, and although there seems no credible near-term prospect for actual crewed landing (? de-orbiting, or entry are perhaps more appropriate terms), or escape from Jupiter, even into low orbit, but still, because of its mass and the Oberth effect the planet still may be of significant use. Callisto and Ganymede appear potentially useful, and human outposts a few meters below the surface (for radiation shielding) may not even be out of the question for Io and Europa, if there is ever sufficient reason to land there. It seems to me the more distant outer planets are likely to lag a generation or more behind, if only because of the distances involved. So I would limit it to Jupiter's system for now. The other outer planets will deserve their own separate articles someday anyhow. But there could possibly be sub-stellar Jupiter-like objects with large satellites nearer than the closest known stars, and settlement of the Jupiter system might well provide a model for the ways we could utilize those. This would entail just a name change (and a redirect) for the current article, and we'd have a place to build. If this idea has any virtue, the talk page is no doubt the place to take it it. Project assessments

We do not currently assess articles pertaining to space colonization, nor do we really keep a list of articles that our WikiProject maintains. If we started doing so, we might find more editors who are interested in space colonization who haven't heard of this project. Also, it would help to direct our article improvement efforts towards the most important articles. I propose that our top-importance articles are:

Importance assessments are somewhat subjective, and we'll have to find some way to adapt the general guidelines for our purposes. We wouldn't need to worry about quality assessments. Anyone else interested in this idea? If we want to do it, the first step will be to get our project added to the WPSpace template. Wronkiew (talk) 04:29, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Habitability (Human) or Human Habitability

Hi! Another editor and I are working on a new article that would be involved with this Wikiproject. Right now our colonization articles are specific to particular planets and Planetary habitability has a more life-in-general focus. A similar article was redirected a while back and we're hoping to make it a little better this time. If anyone is interested, we'd appreciate any advice! --Explodicle (T/C) 15:20, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

This has been left alone too long, though it has grown some, it is in need of some finishing touches. Any help in closing the deal would be appreciated. Planetary habitability article has stolen some of what is in this new article to suggest that the topic is covered and for fear it would loose the aspect, but it never really had it as its main focus is Extremophile life forms. Besides it is really bloated and the encyclopedia would benefit from it's being split into two distinct articles. GabrielVelasquez (talk) 13:33, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
